Here's my issue. I work on a small video production using an SD 442 mixer. The show now wants to incorporate Skype calls into the show. I plan on using a Turtle Beach Amigo II USB card to send the Skype caller's audio from the Macbook's USB port to a speaker so the host can hear the caller and also to send the host's microphone back to the Skype caller from a direct out of the 442. Simple. The problem arises when the director needs to use the HDMI port to send the Skype caller's audio and video as an ISO source to an external recording device. My thought is that the USB and HDMI ports do NOT work independently of each other and that the HDMI port will override what I'm tr…

Hey JW'ers. I randomly started having an issue with a periodic digitally distorted, 'bargled' output from my old Mbox 2 USB interface and my Mac Pro desktop cpu, running Mac OSX 10.8.5. No idea where this is coming from, as I've been running this same setup, relatively unchanged for a couple years now. I have a temporary fix, going through Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup and toggling the Digidesign Mbox 2 tab Clock Source from Internal to S/PDIF and back. But it keeps happening, and I'm mystified as to why this issue would just start up like this. Any ideas for a steady fix? I figure a full OS update would probably solve it.. but I just wanted to see if anyone could…

Has anyone used lockstep by figure 53 to slave the pt transport to Ltc? How reliable was it? Would it ever glitch and cause transport errors? I'm considering it as one possible solution, and I thought I'd get some user feedback before I buy it and try it out . Thanks for your thoughts.

Question for the hive mind: I've got a 3 year old MacBook Pro that I use for playback work. Pro Tools runs pretty much fine - but I've decided to upgrade the hard drive to an SSD and up the RAM because every now and then I get a hiccup with bigger sessions. I can't quite decide though if I should upgrade my OS (still on 10.9.5) to the latest, which probably means needed to upgrade my Pro Tools from v10 up to 11 or 12. Normally I'm pretty good with upgrading, but since I've largely stopped doing post work, I've not felt the need to always keep up with the upgrades. I suppose I'm now at the point where I simply can't decide...Do I upgrade the OS and PT software - or ju…

It seems like no matter what webpage I visit these days I have to click out of an annoying pop up ad or video that automatically starts streaming. I normally browse in Safari and have pop-ups blocked. Just wondering if there's a better way of blocking all the commercials. Any info is appreciated.

I just got my hands on the new Windows 10 and it is awful! What were they thinking? It looks VERY retro, incompatible with every single software application, incredibly sluggish and ugly as hell. I was thinking of leaving the Mac and going with Windows but after looking at this... forget about it! Wait a minute. I think it might be Windows 1.0, not 10. Missed the decimal point I guess. I might give Windows 10 a whirl when it comes out.

Hi guys, on couple of our machines I need to disable mounting of external drives (USB and FireWire). I tried to unload and then delete the .kext files in System/Library but no avail ... After reboot I can still connect and see the external drives. Does anyone here have any idea what else to try? Regards Martin Jelovsek

I've been using an app called Duet to extend the screen of my MacBook Pro with an iPad via a USB cable, which has been working well for me, but has some problems with Yosemite, apparently. A colleague alerted me to the fact that Air Display, which used to work only via a wireless network, now is has a Version 3, which can also use a USB cable and seems to be pretty stable. For an expenditure of around $15 (£10.99 UK) it's a pretty good deal. Regards, John

No fans. Good prices. Processor specs seem low. What do we all think of these processor specs for 8 track recording? http://www.apple.com/macbook

I have been using Boom Recorder successfully with my MacBook Pro and a Mackie Onyx 1620i mixer, with the Firewire option. I recently upgraded to 8.5.0 and the MacBook Pro is running Yosemite. I have worked with this setup without a problem, until today. We did several setups without incident until, around 10am, I lost timecode and the software aborted the take. Luckily I was able to switch to my backup recorder, but I lost a couple of takes and, more importantly, production had to wait for us. I restarted and did all the pertinent troubleshooting things and it eventually came back, but it's not reliable, and it cuts off eventually. Timecode comes from a Deneck…

hello Somebody uses programs like Audio Finder, Soundminer, Library Monkey Pro. I'm looking for the right browser to keep ordered in my sound library. I saw that Audio Finder does not handle metadata very accurately, but you can drag the files directly on the timeline of protools. I would like to be able to manage all my sound archive with a single database. Can anyone recommend me a program?

To those who know... My son wants to run some PC games on his MacBook Pro. Parallels seems to be the go to option, but it appears he must buy BOTH Parallels and Windows. I think we have an old Windows install disk from an old laptop, but it might be serial number specific and very outdated. Are there any other options? Can I buy "used" Parallels and Windows? Senator disclaimer... I have been to the Parallels website, and have done some searches of various forums, but I am asking this group of trustworthy friends and colleagues to see if someone here has specific and personal knowledge. Thanks, Robert

So I've tested FreqFinder on iOS 8 on my iPod touch and the simulators that Apple provides, but I don't have a physical iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus to test on. Does anyone have an iPhone 6 and FreqFinder? Does anyone have an iPhone 6 and wants FreqFinder?

I want to update my Ipads and Iphone to IOS 8, but worried about any issues that might come up with Movie Slate. Has anyone updated to IOS 8 and still using Movie Slate with no issues ? Specifically using Movie Slate with Timecode Buddy sync feature ?

Hey, my colleagues bought a brand new mac pro in our office we mainly use for video transcoding, copying files, reading SxS n stuff. Now we need an audio interface we want to use to listen to and to analyze our recorded / transcoded audio with wave agent, Adobe Audition etc. There has to be: - good sound 24/96 (yes, really?) - ideal: XLR out for our Genelecs (or TRS) - low latency - XLR input that accepts line level - very good headphone amplifier - not needed: mic amplifier, 48v, multitrack i/o, guitar in, phono, 7.1 ... - price: unfortunately lower than RME league So what do you recommend? I'm curious as to how some of you are mounting computers on your carts. I would like to have my MacBookPro on my cart, but only if I am confident it's securely mounted. What solutions have you found for this?

thought I share my finding with Airfoil. Airfoil (http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/) is a software that lets you send any audio source from your Mac to a speaker within your wifi-network. So far I used to send audio to my stereo by using an Apple Airport-Express. Now I wanted to add a small speaker in an adjoining room. I choose a small bluetooth speaker and thought I could send my audio just in parallel to Airfoil via bluetooth. Well you can but there is (a different) delay which would lead to some echo between the 2 rooms. After installing the Speakers app (free) (http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/speakers.php) on my MBP and routing it´s output to the bl…

Testing the ‘Apple tax’: What would it cost to build a Windows version of the new Mac Pro? By Zach Epstein -re-posted from website, article by Zach Epstein The new Mac Pro is the most powerful and flexible computer Apple has ever created, and it’s also extremely expensive — or is it? With a price tag that can climb up around $10,000, Apple’s latest enterprise workhorse clearly isn’t cheap. For businesses with a need for all that muscle, however, is that steep price justifiable or is there a premium “Apple tax” that companies will have to pay? Shortly after the new Mac Pro was finally made available for purchase last week, one PC enthusiast set out to answer that …

Hi All, I've been looking around to see what's currently available in external Thunderbolt hard drives. I don't see much in the affordable category. I did spot this Thunderbolt hard drive Dock which might pair well with a Solid State Drive: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/985459-REG/highpoint_5212_2_bay_thunderbolt_10gb_s_storage.html I have a similar Vantec dock with firewire which was 1/4 the price and it's served me well. Is anyone using a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adaptor and getting good results? When you do use an adaptor do you get Thunderbolt speeds? Thanks for your tips and keep well! Cheers, Dave

Hello everyone! Hope you had a fantastic day of rest with family and friends this weekend. I am looking into getting either a new laptop or tablet, but not sure what to get for the best price around $300.00 (US). Requirements: (aside from cost effective): Universal connectivity (meaning I can swap SD cards to increase memory and import/export data from one terminal to another like hard drives or smart phones). Capable to use programs such as Wave Agent, or record to Computer type programs, Boom Recorder or similar being of of them. I apologize if I am being vague, I tend to do that. Please feel free to ask me to clarify anything am not making clear. …
