Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has any tips or knowledge about recording Skype or FaceTime video chats? I have to do a long distance interview and need to capture both video & audio for subsequent editing in Final Cut. Hoping for highest quality - clear image and reasonable audio sync. I'll only want to show the interviewee's image on camera (and voice), but still want the interviewers audio questions. Have you encountered any helpful apps for current iPads? Thanks for any tips - much appreciated. Best Regards, Dave

every time i have upgraded the os on my ipad 1 i have noticed a resulting overall slowness in the browser. it has recently come to my attention that the upgrades are tweaked for the processors of the newest ios devices and running the upgrades on older devices results in problems. when this occurs the natural solution would be to downgrade to the previous ios and resolve the problem. however, apple does not allow that and while it has some good reasons to do so the downside is that many devices are forced into obsolescence. there are workarounds for these problems and they are sometimes specific to the ios versions you have on your device, but, from what i…

I moved from windows many years ago because I got tired of their pop-up windows to update this and that. Now, I'm starting to get a freaking Adobe Flash Player update window every 10th time I visit this site. Does anyone know how to disable this?

- from Macworld review Those who’ve seen the Roman numeral X slapped onto Final Cut Pro may approach this release with some initial trepidation. Has Logic Pro been stripped of vital features to make it more accessible to GarageBand users? Is Apple abandoning professional audio engineers and musicians to cater to the prosumer user? No and no. While Logic Pro has indeed adopted some of the look of Final Cut Pro X—with its dark visage and panes that can be invoked or dismissed as the mood strikes—Apple’s digital audio workstation (DAW) has lost none of its power and gained valuable features on just about every front. Will someone finally explain to me why Adobe is the ONLY company that puts out "updates" on almost a weekly basis (for their Flash Player) and why the installer acts like it wants to take over the whole computer when it's doing its thing. Compare what Adobe puts you through with any other software that I install or update on the Mac and it's a joke, a bad joke. The incessant updates, for "security", would be enough to turn me off to Flash even if it were the best software out there. Why is it that Adobe Flash has all these security risks anyway?

This is Dell's version of the LG EA93 21:9 monitor. I actually like that it is sort of small vertically, as I can have clear line of site to my projector and speakers without a giant screen in the way. ProTools timeline will look good and still have real estate when I pull the clip bin out a bit for legibility. I'm thinking that even dual head would be cool, although perhaps stretching the peripheral viewing angle a bit too much - hmm... will try one first and see how it goes.

Hello! I've had my Lacie Rugged decide to just not connect on several occasions on location recently, and even though I've got the recordings on my 788's internal drive which I then backup on my bigger drive at home, I'm paranoid and like to make as many copies as possible So, can anyone recommend a sturdy location hard drive instead of the Rugged? Cheers! Eren

This caught my attention: “The features and capabilities of iPad give us the ability to set a new standard for multitrack recording and editing on a mobile device,” said Rim Buntinas, WaveMachine Labs’ CEO. “Users of the Auria app can play 48 mono or stereo 24bit/96 kHz tracks simultaneously, record up to 24 of those tracks simultaneously, and also edit and mix with familiar tools. With its portability and all-day battery life, iPad has revolutionized recording for audio professionals allowing artists to record anywhere.” So will that mean both Pro-Tools and Final Cut Pro will have iPad apps? Here is Apple's Press Release. http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2…

With very few people having bought into Thunderbolt this may well be the demise. O.K. iOS users, don't be hatin' on me, but... I'm curious if any Android users out there have any favorite tools/apps for Android based smartphones. Criteria: anywhere between "really useful" to "just fun" Here are a couple to get things started: - Sound Report Writer (Tyler Faison) - Speedy Spectrum Analyzer (Electron Chaos)

The new iMacs introduced today at the Apple Event are utilizing a dual drive system that they call Fusion Drive. Utilizing a conventional spinning hard drive and a Flash or Solid State Drive, computer performance is greatly enhanced. It should be noted, as the article below points out, this is not a simple caching system. The Mac OS is actually doing a lot of fairly sophisticated dynamic management of these two drives. Apple's New 'Fusion Drive' Not a Typical Hybrid Drive Tuesday October 23, 2012 7:25 pm PDT by Arnold Kim Amongst the many new products Apple introduced today, they also announced a new storage option called Fusion Drive. So here I am seventy years old and after fifty odd years in the business I have been dragged not quite screaming into the 21st century by the purchase of an Ipad 3. I told the assistant editor that I was thinking of sending the sound report (Once I'd bought the software) on PDF by email. "No bloody good to me I haven't got internet and what's the point of separating the sheets from the CF card as I need them both at the same time to sync rushes." I thought the lad had a good point especially his edit suite is less than a hundred feet from me. So I beg the question of all the people doing sound sheets on I phones, I Pads or android whatever what do YOU do with them? …

Ok so I know this has been addressed in lesser forms but I am trying to put together a master list. I have finally come off the fence and become a pad person or rather purchased a couple of iPads for use at home and work. I am looking to populate mine with the relevant apps for sound and camera problem is for every good one there are several that just don't quite work. so what should I look at for sound and camera work. I'm talking slate, logging, equipment inventory, working up quotes, anything else you can think of? Also apps that talk to each other if there are any, a dp had one last year for his dslr slate that if I had my own iPad would have linked to my…
