This is for crew C : In my twisted pair, I mean mind, I came up with an idea for a short video yesterday afternoon. I wanted to use the motion control head that I build for my DSLR, I wanted to do a long slow panning shot with a fixed object always in the foreground for the whole shot. The garden gnome would work but he needed a special effect for the shot. Once that was in place, the music track came to mind. I had to cut 1:min 30:sec. out of the track (Three Edits) to make it work. I shot it late afternoon so the sun was back lighting my scene and worked nicely on the effect. My hands were full as I had to hand hold and move a fill bounce and control the camera / mot…

Field Day is held every year,June26th-27th across North America. It gives hams and ham clubs a chance to try their skills under emergency situtations, ( no hydro power) equipment can only be powered by generators, battery or solar. In the United States, it is typically the largest single emergency preparedness exercise in the country, with over 30,000 operators participating each year. A friend gave me a call the night before and asked if I would come over with my DSLR and get some shots, so I had very little time to plan out how I would shoot the event. So I decided I would shoot it doc. style, no retakes,no back to ones,no going again, just go with the flow. In the day ti…

Wolf Seeburg sent these to me, I don't know where he found them. It is hard to imagine that these are real devices. I guess the only way to detect incoming aircraft was to LISTEN!

Please enjoy this short clip of what was an absolutely remarkable rehearsal of about 1 hour, which included this fantastic clip, a traditional wedding dance with only 2 dancers, and some a capella performances by Georgia's premiere folk singing group. I wish the video could give the experience Rich (my boom guy) and I felt being in this old rehearsal studio with these dancers. The force of their steps vibrating the floor. It was truly an honor to have been able to experience this performance. We thought we were going just to see a couple of dancers and the folk singer so the director could decide if they would perform in an important wedding celebration scene in the…

Rigged up this iteration for my first cable show (with good help from Billy Sarokin and Adam Sanchez) last fall. Am in the process of finessing it, so thought I'd share where it is now. If you're so inclined, you can visit the Flickr page upon which I've made "copious" notes: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fauxpress/3903882976/# Goals for the 2010 reconfiguration include: Continued cable reduction Design a car rig plan that works, no matter what Antenna array for car rig Sell the remaining Audio Limited rack and a few other things Install 2nd Zaxcom 4900 rack under extant rack Add additional drawer to 10-U magliner cart rack in space freed by A…

A good friend of mine shoots video for a company that promotes rock themed cruises. Think "Rock Boat", but not that company. He bought a 5D to do this, and wanted to know how to get good audio from a boom mic into the camera. Considering the conditions, I immediately told him he should get a MixPre. He stated the obvious players, juicedLink, and Beachtek. Reading me reviews on how great these are(yuk). I told him he will have problems with either one of those, and if he insisted on using them, then he should think about double system sound and sync it all via Pluraleyes. Being he's a one man band, this setup would take some extra effort on his part. I had him buy a Zoom H…
