On shoots for this client we are rolling as often as not during the day, so as much as 6 hrs a day x 2 tracks. Seemed like a good place to use the "as-you-go" SD DVDRAM burner w/ the 702T. No burn @ rap/just pop it out and box it up= a beautiful thing after a 15 hr day. Philip Perkins

here are some pics i took with the crappy camera on my phone on a mocap shoot. we had all the lights off but the mocap cameras making everything red. The audio I was recording is for actual in game stuff, so all unneccesary stuff was turned off. The other pic is of the very slimmed down deva setup I was using. The third pic is me and my oldest son.

Needless to say I was at full capacity! And it doesn't look pretty, but it worked. The 45 lbs. rig for me, and the 10 lbs. rig for the camera guys!!! Hmmmm.....remind me why I got into sound?

The Commercial (and etc) Cart: M6 (on 1 inch "legs" to make a place to stuff and route cables), ABS hinge gag for the SD 702T, tilted up to make the display visible when I'm standing up (as I usually am), Comtek Phase-Rite TX antenna, tan monitor switch box next to mixer; rack shelf has the Tascam P2 (one set of inputs on a split of the mixer L/R, as backup, the other for 2 of the 6 direct outs of the M6; TC and clock from the 702T), to the right of the P2 the Comtek BST75 TX, just visible above the P2 attached to the underside of the top shelf: SD DVD-RAM drive that records from the 702T in real time; on the left, w/ the orange wires: my home-made wireless RX rack (w/…

Here are a few pics from NAB. First is the Red Camera that has been getting a lot of hype. Looks like they are gonna be able to deliver, should make things interesting for the big boys. Apple released Final Cut Suite 6. I really liked this rackmount setup at Location Sounds Booth. Very clean and efficient. I believe this is Gary Gossett's setup(forgive me if I spelled the name wrong).

The rack door is on lift-off hinges, so if there are lots of moves or limited space, I leave the door off for ease. If I want the computer, it sits on top. But I don't run any recording software, so it's there for fun and to burn a DVD from my 744T at the end of the day. Robert Sharman

I'm not quite sure what I was showing Goldie here but we both seem to think it's pretty funny. We had a terrific time on "Foul Play" and a little bit of trivia: it was John Coffey's first job on production --- Don and I hired him to work as our utility person (of course back then the position was always called "the third man" or "the cable guy") and I think that helped launch John's career in production sound. Here we are on a VISA spot in Vacaville CA yesterday, Frances Nkara--my redoubtable boom op and me. Got to meet fellow JWSound poster Phil Talsky @ this location. Low key day after we retuned all the radios out of the way of Sacto TV and weird military RF. Philip Perkins

HAPPY HEALTHY NEW YEAR ALL Everyone seems to love cart pictures. I know I do. Here’s mine: I built it in 2000, six months start to finish. My friends let me move into their machine shop for two months during the actor’s strike. It’s all aluminum, mostly ½ x 1 tubing, V cut, welded and ground, machine parts and powder coated. It’s on aircraft suspension.

Here's a shot of my recently built and assembled Sound Cart. Not only is it a picture of my cart, but the quality of the photograph also shows why I'm not in the camera dept.
