Here are some pictures taken in the German music store "Instrumente - Noten," located at Sonnenstr. 15, in Munich, during the winter of 2024. I was deeply inspired by the merchandise available in their store: a true musician's dream.

I just caught 2 scenes of Young Sheldon and with his lav mic exposed next to his shirt button. I was hard to see the grill but it looks like there is no windscreen and the grill has maybe 5 holes . Not sure what type it is.

Comteks are great ….. and terrible. They make us money and keep clients happy, even though they don’t sound that good. They are one of the items that i have come to see as the “face” of my sound since every client on set will interact with them directly and often. So last year I finally got tired of buying cheap hanging shoe racks (they only last a few months) to store, organize, inventory, and distribute my comteks and I commissioned a set of custom hanging pouches. Now that i have them I can’t believe I didn’t do this before. I have both 8x and 12x versions (I do mostly commercial and scripted narrative). I hang one on the back of my cart, or move it to a mic stand to …

This weekend, I was at a gear swap when I stumbled across this shotgun mic from the 1960s. The ElectroVoice 644 CardioLine. The only thing I know about them is that they are a dynamic shotgun! Does anybody know anything about these?

I’ve always enjoyed looking at images taken on location. Do you have any images of you working sound on location? Please share a couple of your photos. On the set of “Rejected”, 2020, Sheffield, MA. Has anyone else been here?

This was several scenes that was shot in one take, this actor was amazing! 95% of the lines were his. He did the speech over twenty times, I’ve never seen anything like it.

Hey everybody! I have a little research question concerning production sound throughout the history of cinema since the first “Talkies”. This applies to sound-post as well but I’m aware that there are less people on the forum with that focus. I am actually still studying at university and while I’ve been pretty busy with projects over the past years I’m now focusing on finishing my master’s thesis. A main subject of it is the influence of technical progress in audio equipment on the storytelling through sound as well as the factor of limitations/constraints in creating sound design. Which effects did certain developments have on the work of production sou…

Hi, I just watched a short documentary made in 1950 by Henri-georges Clouzot who was planning to shoot a documentary in Brazil. In this short he presents the project and film his team. We can briefly see some equipment from that era. You can watch it here: https://www.cinematheque.fr/henri/film/122297-brasil-henri-georges-clouzot-1950/ One shot really intrigued me. He presents his sound recordist who seems to be using an optical recorder that he has brought in his appartement. I have never seen these and would be curious to know more about it if anyone have some clues about what it could be:

Saw this photo and thought the set-up could be ideal for recording lengthy oral history interviews. The goal is to encourage a relaxed conversational style with interviewees that may be intimidated by too much production (i.e., getting wired with a lav and/or sitting under an overhead boom rig). The set-up in this photo seems less intimidating with the mics placed off the eye line and a little further away (maybe 18"). My questions are: 1) What specific microphones would you use for this set-up? I'm assuming these are cardioid (super-cardioid) condensers with a pick-up pattern to allow some shifting of seated interview subjects? 2) Given the goal sta…

I didn’t take pictures but I just watched a couple of movies where mics were totally positioned wrong and it really made me laugh. One was the Dalton Trumbo biopic and the other was the Chess records film. Both show side address mics repeatedly being pointed at the source as if they were top address mics. Not to mention that some of the mics pictured had not been invented yet in some cases. I thought it would be funny to start a thread for people to post a screen shot whenever they see something like that!

1962 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Polizia Chassis no. 3999 GT Engine no. 3999 GT The Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 The GTE was the first production 2+2 from Maranello, offering the ultimate GT experience to a discerning clientele that needed to travel with speed, comfort and all the flair the prancing horse could offer. Development started in 1959 from the successful 250 long wheelbase chassis that was widened in order to guarantee a roomier cabin. For the same reason, the notorious Colombo engine was moved forward and an elegant body was commissioned from Pininfarina. The car was a commercial success …

Watch out for those 🕵️♀️ http://sandlab.cs.uchicago.edu/jammer/ The video seems broken, the German tech news site Golem has it. https://video.golem.de/audio-video/24095/wearable-microphone-jammer.html However, the video is less interesting than the question, how this works... and on what mics.
