Not many people have an opportunity to get this close to a container ship. Those who do may see icons that impart important information. For example, those black brackets to the right of the company name indicate where the tugboat is supposed to push. Photo by David Webster Smith Signs and symbols on the sides of ships tell stories about an industry few outsiders understand. Text by Erin Van Rheenen Photos by David Webster Smith https://www.hakaimagazine.com/videos-visuals/the-secret-language-of-ships/ April 10th, 2018 | 1,700 words, about 8 minutes Approaching the container ship in San Francisco Bay, the tugboat looks like a pi…

I found this behind the scenes, done by Stanley Kubricks daughter, Vivian, at age 17. I can't help but see the comfort level that the actors have with her, during what would seem to be some tough scenes to have a camera following around. She also edited and covered the show really well. I particularly like the cutting from film to her footage within the scene to be remarkable. I looked her up on IMDB to see if I've seen anything else she has done, and there doesn't seem to be anything listed there. She seemed to have a well understanding at her age, and the pedigree. I'm suprised she never did much else in the business. Then again, maybe she was smart. Enjoy, I know I did…

Following the question as to the Nagra used on The Shining I contacted Ivan Sharrock who was the mixer at the start of the film and he sent this back. Hi Malcolm We used Stanley's Nagra IV-S. The other Mixer was Richard Daniel who took over from me in December after we had been filming for 30 weeks. I left, with my Boom Op/ 1st Asst - Ken Weston, as Stanley would only give us two days off at Christmas!! The principle photography carried on for another 24 weeks ……… (original schedule was 17weeks)!

1962 Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Polizia Chassis no. 3999 GT Engine no. 3999 GT The Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 The GTE was the first production 2+2 from Maranello, offering the ultimate GT experience to a discerning clientele that needed to travel with speed, comfort and all the flair the prancing horse could offer. Development started in 1959 from the successful 250 long wheelbase chassis that was widened in order to guarantee a roomier cabin. For the same reason, the notorious Colombo engine was moved forward and an elegant body was commissioned from Pininfarina. The car was a commercial success …

Gotta stay up late tonight to acclimate for one-off night shoot tomorrow. I've been wanting to share about these Viewtainer brand containers. Frank Bradley turned me on to these a couple of years ago and I love them for various mounting supplies shown here including my favorite for plants, the lasso tie. I picked them up at OSH (a hardware store chain in LA). PG

Had the Go-Pro 3 Black mounted right on the shock mount on the Fisher 7 for a few hours on one of our last days on Mr. Young. The executive producer was cool with this. " What are you going to do with the footage" he asked ? "Educational purposes only sir" I replied. This is a short shot but you will get the idea of this pov with the mic in the shot. My main computer is down right now, something on the motherboard went south so trying to do any video editing on the laptop (12 years old) is painful to say the least. I am so in the habit of saying that my first TV show was Hee Haw, I forgot about one that actually came before called "The Carl Tipton Show", shot in the same studio in Nashville (WLAC). We did six 30-minute shows every Saturday morning between 8am and noon, to air on the following Monday through Saturday. After a couple hundred of these shows, we learned our way around a bluegrass band pretty well. The staff was so determined to make our lunch time that we all but refused to cut. The shows below aired as you see them. Besides the training grounds in the 70s for Pat Sajak, Opra Winfrey, James Brown, and myself, a very successful video editor, Terry Climer, got his sta…

I'm sure most of us have seen one of these in their travels. I saw my first one about 15 years ago on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, the familiar pine with green paddles. I saw them in Germany 2 years ago, but this reminds me that they are all over the world: http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-01-07/this-is-not-a-tree/?cid=bsa:topnav:artb#gallery=1182;page=1 I must admit I've never seen one with street lights attached to it.

Uluru – the 600m-year-old gigantic rock formation in the heart of Australia – was transformed by heavy downpours this week, with rainwater cascading down its 300-metre sandstone facades. The spectacular event was photographed by local environmental staff on Tuesday evening as a storm passed over the nation’s ‘red centre’. Uluru is in one of the driest regions of Australia and experiences extreme temperatures ranging from the high 40s in the daytime to below zero at night Friday 15 January 2016 All photos © Parks Australia - as seen on: http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/gallery/2016/jan/15/ulurus-magnificent-waterfalls-landmark-transformed-by-rai…
