I always find it interesting the funny and odd places we end up in while doing our jobs.

I thought it might be interesting to post the various camera rigs we have come across in our daily travels. I know we are all interested in our carts, but maybe a topic for Camera rigs can help some see different ways the camera department skin a cat. I know there are some crazy ones, with several already posted in other topics. Considering the most recent "advancement" in camera technology, and it's hot topic, here's my entry. I didn't work with this, but just saw it and made me think of this topic.

I am arranging a Fisher Boom demo/workshop here in Boston, and I'm in the process of putting together some paperwork. What I really need is photos of people operating these beasts. At Emerson College (my alma mater, where the class is taking place) we have a model 3 base on a model 2 arm, of which I plan to snap plenty of photos. What I'm looking for are photos of actual users. I realize I can scour the site and find photos, and I will, but I want permission first. So if you have a photo of you looking sexy on a fisher boom, and you want to be the star of some educational material, let me know and point me in the right direction. I don't care if you're using the…

Because no bag is on the market for the Cantar X3 yet.... I designed my own. With a "little" help from professionals as 'De Herrieboerderij' aka Kees Schouten in Amsterdam witch helped me with the aluminium frame, and a my new friend Andrea Monti from The Guild of Holland, he made the leather parts. Because the AudioLTD rack3 with Rx2040's, like almost all receivers, is to high I made a little frame to hang a front bag from. This front bag, when sitting on the ground, blocks some faders/knobs/buttons. But when I carry the bag it drops 4 cm, and everything is accessible again. The two leather straps can be released quickly and all mic and line in's become accessible. Her…

My run and gun on the slower draw is really working. Can just unstrap the bag and walk away. Have so many points to hang and strap. I cut the height down last month to be able to transport it upright in a van. This was a three camera, 2 talking heads shoot. Audio feed to all 3 cameras. A little lite rain at times.

First of all, thank you to all of you for the great cart pics and ideas. I am in awe of these carts. I never thought I would be working off a cart but after countless days of slow moving corporate interviews , why not sit and relax and have some wheels to haul gear in and out of hotels and such. So, I have been working on a PSC cart. every time I use it I make changes to try and make things easier. On of my biggest problems was attaching some old light stands to use for antenna mounts. I finally used a pinless hitch pin ( you could use ones with a pin also) the ring fit perfectly around the stand, and the 1/4 inch fit the holes in the cart. I installed 2 stands…

I've been watching Stephen Colbert and was amazed to see the Rotunda that you never saw when Letterman was there. I started googling and found a website that has a Studio 50 page, and even more amazing is that it is on Scotty Moore's website. and If you love early Elvis records it was Scotty Moore who played guitar. http://www.scottymoore.net/studio50.html

Celebrity Photos

I've always been hesitant to get into the still picture clusterama that celebrities sometimes endure. This one I could not resist... and someone thought my avatar wasn't a real Gator... so here, meet an uninvited guest star posing with yours truly on a Barbecue Cooking Show shoot... we didn't feed him and shortly he returned to his trailer in the swamps...

we've been shooting in a mall for the past couple of weeks, so being surrounded by christmas musak, decorations and even passing Santa everyday, inspired me to string up some Christmas lights on the cart. Never too early for Christmas cheer !

Not sure if this could be a start of a cool thread or not. But I was working in an old local recording studio, apparently where, Prince penned Purple Rain. Anyways, when we walked into the control room this lovely, classic console was inside, and I was really impressed with how clean it still was. The head engineer said he couldn't pass it up, and says it sounds fantastic. What caught my eye, was the Channel section and the EQ switches(not knobs), with the ubiquitous Lexicon alongside, in it's familiar place on the desk. As we worked, I also discovered this EV 644 Sound Spot Shotgun mic. Curiousity peaked, I plugged it in, with their adapter cable, and she…

Spending a day with the most beautiful girl in the world. Lady Liberty... This was my first visit to the island. Of course I'd seen her from Manhattan, but unless you are there at her feet, you don't get the same feeling.

Cologne Cart 1 2

As an homage to Matthias Richter's long running thread, Berlin cart, I have called this one Cologne cart. This is to show my cart, but I would also like to encourage other Cologne based mixers, to show off their carts here, too. So my cart is based on two ABS cases. I am in no way a skilled handy worker, so this is not exactly beautiful craftsmanship and everything is improvised as I go along. I do try to think things through before building them, but more often than not that meant solving one problem while creating two new ones. All the parts are readily available at home depot or such like, except for the motors which I found on Ebay. I was so impresse…
