Hey JWSound! I'm on the search for some old sound cart images. I have several from Jeff himself already, but I'm specifically looking for some images of small Nagra/Sela mixer combo rigs and the more minimalist the better. Google Images isn't bringing up what I have in mind, so if anyone here has something in their archives and wouldn't mind sharing with me please send me a PM. Best, Devendra

I worked on a documentary / reality-ish show for four months this summer. The premise was to take ten people and get them to recreate Alexander Mackenzie's historic trip across the west. Mackenzie was the first european to cross North America by land. (ten years before Lois and Clark) The ten participants / Voyageurs would eat the same food Mackenzie and his men would have eaten back in the day (mostly Pemican, Bannock and wild rice with occasional wild game or fish) They would wear clothing authentic the era, and they paddled a twenty five foot birch bark canoe. The crew would be following there every action. the first 2 months went pretty well. We would follow them i…

I though I'd share my own modifications of my headphones with you. The pink Red pads you can get at a few places but you really need to glue the top pads in with a flexible glue, something like bostik. The 3.5mm jack mod is so that I don't have to put up with adapter cables as I don't like using 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapters, I can now have a selection of cables, and I can even use a short cable with angled jacks and have a 2nd Gen iPod shuffle clipped to the headband and go wireless! As I'd replaced the cable just down from the split some time before, part of this was all because they needed to be properly terminated as cable to cable soldering isn't great at the best of…

Here's a shot of my recently built and assembled Sound Cart. Not only is it a picture of my cart, but the quality of the photograph also shows why I'm not in the camera dept.

This was by far my most challenging job to date. Three camera shoot. 778T/CL8, 9 wireless lavs, camera hop, IFB xmit, 2 NP1 batts for the bds and a mixpre. And the coil-y standing by for the boom. Gotta love "reality shows." One PA to share among camera, sound, and production. Two 14 hour days. Thank the good Lord it was only a two day shoot. Next weekend there will only be 4 talent. I think I'll put the rcvrs on the cameras, turn on AGC, and just change batteries. I think I heard someone say "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger."

I'd like to share with you my soundcart in the making. EMS-flightcases (ABS material, like SKB) should carry my 788t, CL9, Senn.G2 IEM, Video-monitor in the upper case, the lower case has two 3he lockable drawers for stuff like radio-mikes, lavs, extra boommic, accesories etc.. I build this cart with having in mind the wireless receivers outside the cart, to be placed near the filmset. Forgive me for the low quality cellphone-pic. Hope you like it, Diego

Well, here it is. Been working on this for a while - and actually, this is version 2. V1 also had an additional 8 RU SKB case, and I was using a laptop instead of the mini - I'll add that image later. The set-up: Multiple Lectro receivers with a wideband multicoupler, AD 147 mixer, Motu 828 and mac mini w/ boom recorder gets the direct outs and mix from the board, the mix and aux outs go up to the 744t (my deliverable), TC from 744t goes down to the 828 and actually mults on the side of the case so jamming slates is easy, apogee mix pre gives me 2 more inputs into the 828. Wordclock can come from either the 744 or the apogee (my tests indicate a 3 frame slip ov…

Quite awhile ago Bob Marts gave me a huge collection of images of sound carts which we wanted to put up somewhere for people to be able to browse and get ideas. These are from sound mixers all over the world and there is quite as variety of carts and approaches, and quite an interesting array of equipment in use. I was somewhat reluctant to post these because neither Bob nor I have been able to identify many of the carts and their owners. I decided to put it up anyway and the easiest place to put them was on my Web Gallery. Here is the link: < http://gallery.mac.com/jwsound#100100 > Regards, Jeff Wexler (and special thanks to Bob for gathering all these images)

Inspired by Steve Weiss' Corvette plates in the C.A.S. Quarterly, I though I's start this thread. I call this photo - Yin Yang. Oddly enough, my motorcycle gets no better mileage than my Civic Hybrid. Robert

This picture may well be posed (non-blimped camera?), but it's funny to consider that maybe it was recorded with sync sound! I should credit "Danijel" from Belgrade, Serbia over on the Gearslutz Forum for the original post. We're missing the third picture, where the lion jumps down and has lunch "with" the Sound Man and Cameraman...

I am a fresh location recorderlist ,work @ Hong Kong. I usually work on my own for both recording and booming. I used to bring out 1650 pelican with me . But in fact it is not very convenient if thing need picking or resting my mixer bag on it ( not that safety and solid stand) . Therefore , i bought a cosmetic rolling case to build a mini cart. IT is tiny compare to most of ur cart due to in Hong Kong , the location almost tiny flat, office , crowd street , And i need to take all my equipment on my own from home ,taking bus or train to location ,Extremely mobility is needed and need to be fast.

Forgetting to plug in the refrigerator at the end of the day is an occupational hazard for most if not all of us. I am told that many put their keys in the refrigerator to help them remember but here in New York City that only means that I return to my apartment to discover I've left the refrigerator unplugged AND I'm locked out of my apartment. I've thought of leaving my iPhone in the refrigerator but couldn't bear to be without it as I am addicted. So I made myself a wallpaper for the phone to help me remember. I figured others might enjoy it so I put it online. Downloadable as a zip or view (in various colors) here. Here's the wallpaper in action on my phone:
