Syncing Mad Max - Fury Road I had the pleasure to do an interview with Ben Osmo, Production Sound Mixer and Oliver Machin, Sound Department Coordinator & Vehicle FX Recordist about their work on Mad Max - Fury Road in the desert of Nambia, Africa. Three units with up to 12 cameras worked simultaniously, sometimes up to 7km (4.35 mi.) away from each other while driving with 60-90 km/h (37- 56 mph). The air filled with desert sand containing metallic parts that drastically decreased wireless range, while the VFX dpt wanted the camera to use the UTC time information from the GPS satellites to be used as the reference for timecode, which enabled cross referencing betw…

Hello All, This topic is being discussed on other forums and Facebook pages, so I am duplicating this announcement here on JWSound to give it proper community awareness. On Dec 17th Trew Audio received notice from the Certification Bureau of Industry Canada that there are no IC approvals for Zaxcom wireless transmitters, and therefor their sale and import in Canada are prohibited. ("IC" is the radio approval agency of Canada, similar to the FCC in the US). It's not that approvals had been denied; certification had never been applied for. Sorry to keep everyone wondering what was going on, but I decided to delay a public explanation until we knew what Zaxcom's inten…

We would like to collect them all and make our FAQ section a useful source of advice to anybody needing help in the field. We'll add videos, active PDFs and interactive tutorials in the future to make it as helpful as possible. Please just throw question in this thread…

If you happen to find yourself at Cine Gear at Paramount this Friday or Saturday, please stop by the Sound Devices stand (#94 - outside on NY Street) and say hello. I will be there, along with Vojtech Pokorny, our European sales manager. We are showing the 688 with SL-6 and will have SuperSlot versions of Wisycom and Lectrosonics receivers. We are also showing the PIX-E monitor/recorders and PIX-LR audio interface. While not sound kit, I know many of you interface with PIX recorders on set, and these are the next generation of our camera-mounted monitor/recorders. Jon

From Sonosax, Sonosax SX-R4+ and Sonosax SX-AD8+ soon unveiled. Although these new equipments were announced for the end of 2014, they will not be available before April 2015. Innovative ideas having occurred during the year, their development have been somewhat delayed. Develop products of the highest quality using advanced technology and respond closer to the user's needs is a challenge SONOSAX has successfully met many times in the past; releasing these equipments on the market within the expected deadline is by far not always obvious. Despite these delays, we are pleased to announce that the new recorder SONOSAX SX-R4+ and the 8 channels preamp SONOSAX SX-AD8+…

I checked out the Lectro SSM via the banner ad on this site. I was surprised at a few things I found: --proprietary rechargable battery, only? Proprietary charger, not a fast charger, of the sort usually sold as "travel chargers", that are usually pretty slow and hard to crowd into an AC strip in numbers --a Lemo mic connector, (not TA5F). What? This is a Lectro, right? phil p

http://www.pro-sound.com/lectrosonicslseriesreview.html Lectrosonics L Series Review The L series is a great addition to Lectrosonics robust Digital Hybrid Wireless family. The best feature is the fact that the L series covers 3 standard blocks or about 76 MHz, allowing greater flexibility while in the field and adaptability to the dynamic situations that arise in film making on location. I can see where Lectrosonics is going with this. This system is perfect for an ENG setup where you need the flexibility of 3 blocks. For example, say your shooting a reality show, where you only have one chance to capture the audio. No pressure right? You scout the location t…
