I've been absent from the forum for a couple of years as I pursued a career in industrial design. Hello again! I'll be selling my gear pretty soon, but in the meantime, I can announce the first new Abetek product in quite some time. I was able to partner with my company in a joint venture to bring this out. For everyone who uses a lot of NiMH AAs, this is for you. On many shoots I was using at least two racks of 12 AAs per day. At the end of the day, unloading all the batteries to be charged, and reloading them the next day, was a hassle. So I can now present to you, my baby, the RadCad. It pretty much does what it says on the ti…

In the next few days Zaxcom will release Nomad sim. This simulator will allow anyone to experience the Nomad user interface and to learn its capabilities. The simulator will also help customers get familiar with the user interface so it will seem familiar when Nomad is delivered. The Nomad sim is written for PC. I am sure macs that can run PC software will be fine with it as well. The Nomad sim will be available via the Zaxcom web site download section. Glenn Sanders President Zaxcom Inc

The PIX 260i has collectively made many of us here prematurely gray, especially Paul Isaacs...but it is the answer to that question we hear a lot from customers, "What is next from Sound Devices?" Way back at last year's NAB, we previewed the PIX 260. Between now and last April, the product has evolved quite a bit. Today, we began (slowly) sending out PIX 260i units to resellers worldwide. Is this a production sound product? It may be...it may not be. That is up to you to determine. It does introduce several technologies that we believe are relevant for both video and audio production, technologies such as: audio over Dante - networked audio has been around…

Ambient Insider's tips Recent requests from the USA and China showed that although frequently used in Europe some of our products and small workflow helpers are rather unknown to the majority of our community. Thus we would like to take the opportunity and introduce you to our "insider's tips" which have been on the market already for quite some time. VSLOT As prosumer as well as digital cinema cameras nowadays offer at least broadcast compatible video quality they mostly cut back professional audio features and inputs. With the VSLOT you can add a professional stereo slot-in receiver (of course also mono) to all cameras or rigs with a V-Mount battery. This…

We are all sincerely sorry for the delay! To give you a more detailed explanation please read the6 new products thread. We think that the additional development time resulted in a more reliable app and we hope that you will like the tool. Please share your thoughts. We hope that we can grow this software together …

Next week is our 15th anniversary...holy cow. For some fun, we are looking for the user with the oldest Sound Devices product still in use. That user will get a token of our appreciation. Since day one, our serial number syntax has remained the same, and it includes the date built. Attached is an example, which happens to be the very first serialized product we ever made, still sealed and sitting on the shelf in the conference room next to the labeled "Sound Devices" box. It was made on the 85th day of 1999, March 26. It was one of several built to be ready for NAB 1999, our first year there. Serial number description: first two digits - product code (will …

This week Zaxcom will deliver to its dealers in the US the ERX1 and the ERX1TCD. This is a new classification of product that replaces the traditional monitor receiver used on set and the time code sync boxes used to provide time code to slates and cameras. The ERX1 is a monitor receiver with time code display. The ERX1 offers audio quality unmatched by any FM monitor system. The all digital transmission system offers excellent range and fidelity. No noise or distortion can be introduced in the transmission making critical monitoring possible via wireless reception. Script supervisors can use the ERX1 to monitor audio, time code and meta data. A time code display hold…

Here we are. Pianissimo is ready for shipping ! Many demo units all around ! Ask your dealer. Lightweight world champion, First of all, Pianissimo is a bet for new generations of "shortenned" short shotguns like DPA 4017B/C, Sennheiser MKH8060, Sanken CS1.... and awaited. Short body end microphones are generally difficult to mount with a (enough flexible) indoor suspension, but will find the perfect place in Pianissimo ! http://vimeopro.com/ipstv/ips-tv-at-ibc-2014/video/106258092 More infos: http://www.cinela.fr/pianissimo.php?language=en Download link for AES paper, presented at AES 2009 in Munich : "Handling Noise Analysis in Large Cavity Microphone W…

Hey all, just wanted to let you know my button-down lav mounts are now available at Pro Sound. You can get them in black or white for the COS-11, DPA 4060 series, or B6. http://www.pro-sound.com/p/SABEMICMOUNT.html I made these to deal with a really awful work shirt on a show I've been on this summer. Starchy, crackly and dense, it responded weakly to some of my favorite tricks but was still a pain. I had the idea to brute-force a solution that would give the mic some clearance and also create a dead space in the shirt, movement-wise. I tried a couple of different materials and this is the result. The mounts are very flexible, vibration-absorbent, and strong - they…

We are starting to include 25 mg (tiny amount) of silver conductive paste in a teensy vial, with all SM series transmitters. This is to be used on the thumbscrew for the battery cover plate. We have been applying a 1 mg (very tiny) speck of this silver conductive paste to all SM's manufactured in the past year. The reason for the conductive paste is to reduce the slight voltage drop between the thumbscrew threads and the case threads. As this drop is reduced, less battery power is used to overcome this drop and more is available to power the transmitter. As the thumbscrew is loosened and tightened while replacing batteries, the silver in the paste is forced into the micro…

Click Below for a 90 Second Video Introduction to the Diversity Fin "When I got my Diversity Fin a little over a year ago I was skeptical- how good can a passive dual element antenna be on location? I first tested it out on a television show for the SyFy channel. On an extreme wide shot covering a walk and talk from a distance of about a city block I was amazed that I did not get a single dropout on my wireless mics. The unit has great range and coverage- and since it's compact in size, I also mount it on my bag and use it for ENG shoots. The ability to have one antenna position that does the job of two is a great addition to …

STAMP OUT "MIT OUT SOUND!" A popular (presumed to be mythical) origin theory is that MOS stands for broken-English "Mit out sound", that is, "Without sound" as a 1920s German-émigré director might have said it. According to this theory, a German director, recently transplanted to Hollywood (probably Ernst Lubitsch, but possibly Fritz Lang), was asked by a script supervisor how he would like to shoot the next scene of the day. The director responded "Mit out Sprechen!", and so this was noted as a joke on the production reports and the camera slates for the shot. In The Screenwriter's Bible, David Trottier credits the term to Austrian director Erich von Stroheim…

I will start a new thread here because I do not believe it is right for it to be on a thread started by our competitor to promote a new feature. The items that are being asked for from Zaxcom are for the most part simple display or operational things. We will be continuously updating our products as we have always done. Some or all of these things will be added. As for any reason for an update to be made based on the feature set of a competitive product, I would think that a trip to Zaxcom.com to read the feature list and specifications of Nomad would clearly show It is a product that has major feature advantages over any competing product. I reviewed the Zaxcom Nomad for the next issue of Sound and Picture magazine. The magazine is printed and will arrive in the mailboxes of subscribers in just a few days, and the article will soon be available in the online version of Sound and Picture magazine. The staff of S&P was nice enough to let me post it on the Trew Audio website, and it is available now at this link: http://www.trewaudio.com/audioflow/2012/01/12/zaxcom’s-nomad-the-next-step-in-field-recording/ Glen Trew

Based on user feedback and an excellent suggestion we have now implemented direct control of routing/pan functionality, trim, and transport control without having to leave the home screen or use 2 hands. This will provide the same comfort level as having dedicated controls without the limitations of a 2 bus system. Glenn Sanders President Zaxcom Inc
