I'd like to look into the little cheap netbook PCs for use in the field, and for recording when I only need a few tracks (like 6 max). One problem w/ this is the application--all the recording apps I know very well are Mac only. Is there still no PC equivalent to BR or MC? I don't need bells and whistles, but I do need time-stamping of files. Philip Perkins

Does anyone have preferences for certain control surfaces? I am thinking of adding support for this to Boom Recorder.

Has anybody seen these demos of the NVidia RTX Voice AI noise reduction App? It seems to be a game changer for eliminating all types of background noise from a Microphone input. Sorry all you Mac fanatics, it currently needs an NVidia RTX video card and Windows 10 to work. It is in beta and free right now but check out these video demos.

Greetings, Been a long supporter of Boom Recorder for many years.. love it! I found an internal problem with my Mackie Mixer, causing recordings to drift when they run long.. Apparently, a well known issue with the Mackie 1620i mixer.. So, I bit the bullet, went out and bought me a new Yamaha 01V96i. Trying to plug it all together.. And, I'm having some issues. I installed the Yamaha drivers, and the yamaha control software. The input/output comes up in my MIDI controls on my mac. I set up the routing to route the channels to the USB ports.. I launch BR, and set the preference 'Audio' to yahama input. But, I can't seem to get any a…

Here's the chain; Yamaha 01V96 AES/EBU out to Mutec Format Changer on D-sub 25. Mutec Format Changer to MOTU Traveler on ADAT Lightpipe. MOTU Traveler to Boom Recorder on an Apple Mac Mini on Firewire 400. Timecode from Denecke GR1 to Boom Recorder on an Apple Mac Mini through MOTU Traveler All sampling rates and bit deapths will be 48/24 throughout. Timecode already shows lock to the Mac at the Traveler. Can I assume that work clock will be carried through the AES/EBU between the Yammy and the Format Changer and through the Lightpipe from the Format Changer o the Traveler with no need for BNC coax? No need to speak about the setup. This rig is fitting …

Hey there Having a very weird issue that just came up in post on my show right now. Im running Metacorder on my macbook Pro and using OS 10.7.4. I know that Metacorder isn't necessarily supported to run in Lion but I've had no problems my past few shows with it. Im using a fire face 800 and an Apogee Big ben Word clock to clock the fire face and my DM1000. Running metacorder in monophonic mode with between 12 and 20 tracks per day (running 8-12 hours a day) to 2 G-tech Mini firewire drives (powered locally, not bus). Ingesting timecode either from a master clock from video when we shoot on our sound stage or from an Ambient Lock-It when we shoot in the field and…

from Focusrite, a new audio interface that looks be quite good. I don't know the cost, probably expensive (Focusrite name) and probably overkill for many. Hello all, I'm going to be upgrading my computer soon to a new MacBook Pro (15"/2.66GHz Intel Core i7/8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB/500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm) and would like to be able to use it as a location recorder when the chance arises. I know at these specs that the computer should be up to almost any challenge (I'm buying at these specs because I do other work outside of sound that demand heavy work from a computer). Boom recorder seems to be the right choice of software for the job at hand (only need the lite version for starters. 128 channels on a 3 crew doco won't be happening any time soon!) but I'm a plainly out of my depth when it comes to audi…

Hi Guys, This is probably old news in here, but I'd like some opinions... Have a major upcoming gig that requires a lot of fancy footwork (in terms of IFB, submixes, pre-recorded material playback, on-set ADR - all sorts of crazy). So I'm thinking PT for the flexibility that it will give me. I'm torn between going down the route of an external mixer (such as a DM2000, or the Presonus 24.4.2) to do all my routing and just use PT as the recorder (with 788's for backup), or to go with a controller such as the c24 and do all my routing "in the box". Any thoughts, feedback and/or life lessons gratefully appreciated. Cheers, James "Nova" Nowiczews…

Hi all, Just came off a project where I was recording up to 8 tracks on Boom Recorder and ran into a situation that I was sure about the best way to handle it. Some setups I had all 8 mics running, other times I only had 3-4 mics running. In these situations, do you reduce the number of tracks in Boom Recorder, or do you just continue to record 8 tracks, with most being blank? I opted for the blank tracks, because all they do is take up room on the DVD, and don't seem to hurt anything. To ensure post knew they were supposed to be blank, I labeled them all as "null", but wasn't sure if this was really the best way to go. How do all you multi-trackers out there ha…

The Sound Devices 788t has eight of arguably the best preamps and ADCs in a portable piece of sound equipment. It also has firewire ports. On top of that it is the industry standard for location based mutitrack recorder: most sound mixers either have one or are at least familiar with their use. Wouldn't it be AMAZING if this piece of equipment could be used as a computer audio interface? All the pieces are there. Its seem like it is only the software that is holding this machine back from becoming a whole new beast. I already use mine for its preamps in my project studio and then run it through a ADC/interface into Pro Tools. This would cut out a whole section of the sign…

Hello All,I'm putting together a small rack-mount kit and need a USB audio interface for it. I bought an M-Audio M-Track 8 but there were some issues with audio bleeding between tracks, probably due to the signal being too hot coming in, so I'm looking for a replacement. The inputs will be Lectro Wireless, Computer Audio, and audio split from an HDMI input. What I need are:8x or more Pre-Amps (At least 6 of which are on the rear of the unit)USB 2.0 or 3.0 interfaceRack Mountable (preferably 1ru)Hardware Controlled (I.E. Knobs) I think I've primarily been looking at music oriented interfaces so far so I may need help finding something more capable of handling the …

If you use, or are thinking about using, a MOTU interface, you may find this interesting. There is a company called "Black Lion Audio" that performs upgrades to the pre-amps and the clocks on several MOTU products. I don't often use the analog inputs of my Traveler but I'm always interested in having the best clock available so I have just sent mine in for modification. Here is a link to their website. http://www.blacklionaudio.com/motu_firewire_mod.html -Darren

Hey Guys, I recently recorded a short film for a buddy of mine and used my Pro Tools 9 and Focusrite Saffire 56 interface to record 1-4 mic inputs. I am now finding that I can't export poly wav files from Pro Tools (trying to use the export file command always makes many mono files). I downloaded wave agent to see what I can do, but I have never used the program. Also, I didn't roll on all inputs all the time, so the filing naming isn't consistent for which take they are. (For example Boom_01.wav and Studio Mic_01.wav might be from the same take, but Lav 1_01.wav would be from 4 takes later as I didn't roll the lav mic on the first three takes, etc.) They do all have the…

Hi all, hope everybody's well. Can anyone recommend a simple, small, lightweight interface that would accept 8-12 channels of AES audio from an external source and output to USB or Thunderbolt? It does not need to do anything else. Thanks in advance if you've got any ideas...

This is probably the ultimate digital interface (I don't know what it costs) and now that it is DC power it is something we could actually use. At the 123rd AES Convention in New York City, Apogee Electronics Corporation unveiled Ensemble Mobile ($TBA), a battery operated version of the multichannel digital audio interface designed specifically for use with Apple Mac computers. Ensemble is the only multichannel audio interface with control functions built directly into Apple’s Logic Pro, Soundtrack Pro and GarageBand software. It is also compatible with any Mac OS X Core Audio software application. Ensemble Mobile features 36 channels of simultaneous audio, incl…

I've been investigating options for production recording with a computer, and haven't found anything that really suits it for windows (and I don't want a new fruit-based computer) I've been using RME's global record function on Digicheck to do concert recording for some time, the recording is very stable and the metering's excellent. But it doesn't read time code, there are no metadata options and you have to name files when recording stops REAPER has all the functionality, but it is a full blown DAW and also has many functions which aren't needed on set. Maybe some templates could be useful? Does anyone have experience with either of these programs or any…

Gday, Sorry for the probably dumb question but I am trying to work out if it is possible to go AES out of my SD702t into the AES (XLR) inputs of my Lynx Aurora 8 to basically see if I can use the 702 at pres for my studio when needed but im getting lost in the SD manual is it just referring to +4 and -10 with the pro and consumer settings? thanks and sorry again for the dumb question.
