Greetings everyone, I had a Catastrophic fail on my Boom Recorder and Yamaha 01v96i fail last week, and I can't even begin to diagnose the troubles. First hour on set for the day, no troubles, no issues, everything working fine. Hour 3 now, and I noticed the Time Code on BR, going on and off once. So, I check the ISOs, and there is some distortion on the files. By Hour 5, I noticed the TC now just completely off and not being read by BR. So, I check the ISOs, and there's a lot more distortion now.. degrading as time goes by. I had to crap can the whole RB set up, and scramble to get a 788 put in place instead. Here's a sample file. I edited and sa…

Has anyone tried feeding Boom Recorder via Dante Virtual sound card ? It uses the Apple core audio so theoretically it should work ? Just wondering if anyone has tried it. Thanks.

Hello, I am currently trying to use 3 MOTU 896 mk 3 Hybrid units. Is anyone else doing this with a laptop? I was only able to get this to work by using both separate FireWire connections on my MacBook Pro. I made an aggregate device and linked 2 MOTU's off one FireWire port and one MOTU off the other FireWire port. Metacorder sees this no problem. But, is there a way to get all of my inputs to show up, post metacorder, on the headphone jack of just one MOTU box? Metacorder has no menu that allows me to select a signal path for my headphones out. Currently I have to use the 1/8" on the MacBook itself. It works, but is not ideal. Thanks for any assistance …

Was having a scour around for USB-AES solutions and came across DirectOut technologies. http://www.directout.eu/en/products/index.html They do a few products based around MADI conversion, and some which work with existing RME expresscard interfaces. They're also DC powered with hirose connectors (!) and can even take a redundant power supply. Most interesting are the EXBOX.UMA http://www.directout.eu/en/products/exbox.uma.html and the EXBOX.AES http://www.directout.eu/en/products/exbox.aes.html

Hi Folks, I finally finished cutting together the video I shot of RME's Jeff Petersen at NAB. There's a lot of interesting topics that he discusses, including: why RME chose external PCIe instead of Thunderbolt a new standard for MADI over Ethernet why RME feels MADI is inherently more stable than DANTE 12V DC powered MADI interface with DSP Here's the link: I hope it's ok to post this here and not the Manufacturers and Dealers forum - it just seems more on-target in this forum. Anyone know if Pro Tools Express will read and display SMPTE TC? I've been searching Avid and the web like crazy and cannot find out! Thanks, Billy

Hi all, I am searching for an (not so expensive) format converter from 8 channel AES to USB, or 8 channel AES to ADAT. The only thing I found in www is from RME. http://www.rme-audio.de/products_adi_192_dd.php but this thing costs about 1.200€ ... I wana use my Aaton Cantar for computer recording and use it as an AD converter.

Hey Guys, I recently recorded a short film for a buddy of mine and used my Pro Tools 9 and Focusrite Saffire 56 interface to record 1-4 mic inputs. I am now finding that I can't export poly wav files from Pro Tools (trying to use the export file command always makes many mono files). I downloaded wave agent to see what I can do, but I have never used the program. Also, I didn't roll on all inputs all the time, so the filing naming isn't consistent for which take they are. (For example Boom_01.wav and Studio Mic_01.wav might be from the same take, but Lav 1_01.wav would be from 4 takes later as I didn't roll the lav mic on the first three takes, etc.) They do all have the…

<p>Sound devices,<br /> <br /> So I was doing a corporate gig and it was an interview with a woman, simple setup boom and lav.<br /> We shot around 8 hours and we did 10 scenes, the 744 was recording as usual until scene 5, what I mean is that the files on the hdd where perfect and from scene 5 on, all the files are between 3mb and. 20 mb. While the first takes where around 150mb.<br /> The recorder indicated I was recording on the hdd but it was slow on the CF, I couldn't stop the take, so we kept rolling with the 744 indicating recording on the hdd<br /> My surprise came when I handed the files, the editor called me in stati…

I just discovered this fabulous iPad app, V-Control Pro from Neyrinck and it's only $50. Apologies if this has already been covered here. I can open any Pro Tools Session and control it from my iPad, adjust individual channels, groups and more. I'm really loving it. http://youtu.be/978LhiLqqQI

Hi sound people, I have uploaded pictures and information about my current mix cart that I used for the just finished Woody Allen film . Unfortunately the upload did not show up in the gallery section as intended due to an issue with the jwsound site software. You can see the pictures and info here: Email me with comments! For all you Nuendo users, some interesting new stuff coming down the pipe... First off is the new software side of things, Cubase 7 and Nuendo 6. http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/nuendo/nuendo_6/start.html Even more interesting is the hardware controller made by partner Yamaha. http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/nuendo/nuendo_system_solutions/nuage_system_solution.html It seems to promise ICON like integration, but smartly made in a modular format. A big bravo for making the centre section in a standalone product with expandable fader buckets. I don't know what pricing is like, but it should come in quite cheaper than Avid, obviously gre…

Greetings, Been a long supporter of Boom Recorder for many years.. love it! I found an internal problem with my Mackie Mixer, causing recordings to drift when they run long.. Apparently, a well known issue with the Mackie 1620i mixer.. So, I bit the bullet, went out and bought me a new Yamaha 01V96i. Trying to plug it all together.. And, I'm having some issues. I installed the Yamaha drivers, and the yamaha control software. The input/output comes up in my MIDI controls on my mac. I set up the routing to route the channels to the USB ports.. I launch BR, and set the preference 'Audio' to yahama input. But, I can't seem to get any a…

I've been quite productive these last few weeks. Anyway, I have been testing the sample and frame rate changes as best as I could. I had recorded a 24 fps timecode and played it back using my iPhone into my MOTU 828 MkII. This way I could slave it in such a way that I could test a "word clock" rate of 48000 Hz and 48048 Hz (by setting the MOTU to read time code at 23.98). Then I recorded several files with different sample and frame rate settings and compared the timestamp in the audio file with a separate utility. I've also tested free running at a 48048 sample rate compared to the MOTU free running timecode, after an hour there was no visual deviation. So…

Following up my two-channel question with an eight channel version: I am looking to expand my track count and was wondering what some of you guys are using. I am looking for a single rack space unit what takes eight 1/4" line ins (d-subs welcome), and can output to adat optical without any use of a computer to control it. Essentially, I have a bunch of very high end mic pres, and would like to rack them up with a converter (preferably mid to high end) that can output adat optical, so that I can move from studio to studio and be able to interface digitally with their system without having to deal with breakout snakes and patch bays, and since most people/studios …

Hello everyone, I finally finished the new preferences architecture in Boom Recorder. Functionally this version is not different, but some of the preferences have moved between the tabs of the preferences window. I really wanted to finish this because I have some plans for changing how time and pull up / pull down works. Although I had the old and new preferences side by side for comparison and I have tested it carefully this is quite a big change. Be careful before going into production with this version, but I would love if you can try it out. Cheers, Take

I am trying to see if there happens to be some sort of AD converters of high quality (like Apogee for example) that accept line in, and output in spdif or adat optical without having to actually connect it to a computer to set up the output settings. The purpose for this is quite simple really: I have a great computer recording system with great mic pres and converters, but a studio I am doing a lot of work at needs to run their own system, but the converters are taking the life out of the sound, even when I bring my mic pres along with me. Their interface has spdif and adat optical, but their computer is super out of date, and I would like to be able to bring along …

Since I got a Mac Mini 2011 I can no longer use my MBox 1 with it. For the occasional voice or FX recording I do at home I am contemplating which USB/firewire interface to get - then I thought, why don't I just use my Sound Devices MM-1 (that has a very good preamp) and go analog directly into the Mac Mini's line in. I tried it quickly yesterday and it sounded OK but am wondering if there is a downside to this? I'm curious what others think about the Mac Mini's A/D converters' quality?

i used to do a lot of MIDI music with my PC and Yamaha keyboards, but that was a while back. I am looking into getting back into using computers. Boom Recorder for my Mac. My questions is, how in the heck do I get multi-track inputs into my Macbook Pro? I have seen USB audio interfaces/mixers, so I am thinking this is the way. I have a Sounddevices Mix Pre-D, but it only mixes two channels, plus two more via tape return, so that's a start, but still it would be nice to get multi-track into the laptop. Also, does the USB audio interface somehow separate channels 3 and 4 into separate tracks? Forgive me for being a total noob.

Hey there Having a very weird issue that just came up in post on my show right now. Im running Metacorder on my macbook Pro and using OS 10.7.4. I know that Metacorder isn't necessarily supported to run in Lion but I've had no problems my past few shows with it. Im using a fire face 800 and an Apogee Big ben Word clock to clock the fire face and my DM1000. Running metacorder in monophonic mode with between 12 and 20 tracks per day (running 8-12 hours a day) to 2 G-tech Mini firewire drives (powered locally, not bus). Ingesting timecode either from a master clock from video when we shoot on our sound stage or from an Ambient Lock-It when we shoot in the field and…

Boom Recorder saves the audio file to disk when recording. But if the computer crashes during the recording, then the header of the audio file is not complete yet and you will not be able to use the file. Use BR File Fixer to rescue these files. It looks at the size of the file on disk, then checks some information in the header that was written and then corrects the header. You can find it at: http://www.vosgames.nl/downloads/
