My friend had an interesting gadget . http://www.mini-box.com/site/index.html This is DCDC converter for ATX. I recently renewed the sound cart and wanted a 1U recording PC, so it might be just right. 250W modes has room to install 2 SSDs, 16GRAM and i5 8600T on mini ITX. ===== if power supply for mac mini 2018 has 24pin internal connector. they makes DC Powering Mac mini 2018 probably.

When using 2 MOTU boxes, is there any advantage to doing firewire device aggregation as opposed to using one box to make an 8 ch ADAT feed to the other (so 16 chan came from one box)? It seems like in the latter case you'd have one less device on the FW bus, which would be a good idea, right? Philip Perkins

Hi all, I just got a Digi 002 to work with BR and wanted to confirm that it works at 24/48 in stand alone mode? I assume that using BR will not allow me to configure the Digi 002 for 24/96? The Digi 002 is sending prefader in stand alone mode (question being if the limiter can be applied before the signal reaches the BR)? Thanks Richard

I've got a project coming up, where they are talking about recording direct on set, straight to a couple of laptops running FCP, through the firewire output on the high def cameras. (2 cameras) Does anyone have experience working this way ? I was trying to think of a way to send audio straight to their computer, instead sending audio out to the camera and having the firewire signal send it back to there laptop. Anyone know what the audio out would be through the firewire ? 16 Bit ? 48khz ? Aes ? I'll probably still record to my 744t, as a back up, or maybe as the master tracks. It seems like this workflow will just invite more possible problems, especially if …

Was having a scour around for USB-AES solutions and came across DirectOut technologies. http://www.directout.eu/en/products/index.html They do a few products based around MADI conversion, and some which work with existing RME expresscard interfaces. They're also DC powered with hirose connectors (!) and can even take a redundant power supply. Most interesting are the EXBOX.UMA http://www.directout.eu/en/products/exbox.uma.html and the EXBOX.AES http://www.directout.eu/en/products/exbox.aes.html

I just got a report of a bad file that I turned in. I checked it on my hard drive, and it's very distorted, and completely unusable. The sound coming out of the main outs from my 01v96 was fine, and went to camera fine, but it ended up bad in boom recorder. I have not been using the monitor function, as it has never messed up on me before. I thought that it might be a bit depth thing, but nothing has changed there either, it's still 24b/48k in the computer. The levels are all fine, and this is a gig I've been doing for a while now with no complaints, so I know I'm setting everything up right. Maybe something got switched in the 01v? Has anyone had something like this happ…

Hi, I was wondering if anyone still uses Boom Recorder with Tiger, and if there are any stumbling blocks to change to Leopard? I understand upgrading to Snow Leopard is not be possible because of G4 notebooks that are still in the field. Cheers, Take

has anybody used these two products together? Is it possible to control the "TotalMix" of the RME Fireface with a Euphonix MC Mix?

Hello everyone, As I guess now everyone knows, I am working on my digital camera, it needs around 60 MB/sec write speed to disk. I can not use firewire 800, as all the bandwidth will be in use by the camera head. The alternative may interest you as well. The MacBook Pro has one of these new ExpressCard/34 slots, you can use this with a eSATA card. I use the following card: http://www.addonics.com/products/host_controller/adexc34-2e.asp (ADEXC34-2E) The JBOD/RAID card will absolutely not work on Mac OSX, so get the cheap normal one. The cheap normal one is not officially or on-officially supported by this manufacturer, but it is supported by the manufacturer…

Typically I run a mono mix, six pre-fade outputs, and TC into the 8 analog inputs on the back of the Fireface 800. In Boom Recorder, I display 9 tracks and assign time code to track 9, just in case I want to throw a 7th mic in there for some CRAZY reason. All is good. But yesterday I decide to send (L)® into two inputs and the six pre-fade into the others. A show I covered for last week wanted a stereo mix + iso tracks. I never used more than 2 mics, so was not much of an issue that day. Yesterday I thought I'd set up my cart that way as a test while I was waiting for an actor to come to our unit. I ran (L)® out of the board into 1 & 2, and the pre-fades into 3…

Hey all, I was trying to import a 3.73 GB .wav file (24/48k) into Protools LE 7.3 but for some reason PT LE was not letting me. Is there some file size limit for importing audio? Thanks, Jason

I'm currently investigating both of these interfaces for use with Metacorder. Although there are definite advantages to the RME unit that show up on it's spec sheet, it's more than twice the price of the MOTU. I'm wondering if anybody has any experiences with either of these two devices which might help me make a choice? My questions would be: Does the MOTU have any real advantages over the RME, like having a User Interface on the actual unit? Does the RME have substantially better sound due to improved mic pres and other design elements lacking in the MOTU? I'm using this with a MacBook running Metacorder, with a Cooper mixer and a SD 702T for backup and time co…

Hi all, I have a general question regarding timecode sync and using a FireWire enabled board to record to a computer setup to help me decide how to cover my next show. If I stick with my usual 744/788 setup timecode I understand how to maintain sync in single/multi camera situations. What do I need to do if I use a FireWire enabled mixer into a laptop/computer? Is there issues I need to he aware of inregards to FireWire bandwidth, latency or other? Am I correct in thinking that I need to insert timecode via to recording software using midi word clock? How reliable is this? Can I feed this from my 744? What recording software do forum members use? Apologies i…

I'm having a bit of a re-jig of the TV/sound system and using some active monitors for a surround setup. In order to get all the decoding done without a computer I'm going to need a surround preamp/decoder box. In order to play back things from the computer it'll need to go in over HDMI. I'm wondering whether anyone's run multichannel outputs from their HDMI port on their computer and how well the drivers talk to DAW software? Any latency issues (although I expect I'll only use it for playback)

So I've decided to switch to Boom Recorder and trade in my DV824. There are a number of factors which made me want to do this, but now I'm looking for the best interface. I like the Apogee Ensemble, for the pure reason of Apogee's great AD/DA quality and their built in "soft limiters" which are supposed to be quite good. Mackie is coming out with the Onyx 1200F, but it has been delayed so long it makes me wonder. That unit has LOTS of analog inputs, which would be good for those obnoxious times that you have every mic out of the box and need to lay down playback and such. It also has gain control for all the inputs, which seems handy. Any thoughts? Robert S…

Can anyone give me some information as to what this sort of interference might be? (Attached are two screenshots from a brief iZotope RX-5 sample of a session I recorded last night. One shows the interference as a somewhat continuous (there is some amplitude modulation) frequency at 1kHz, with overtones at 2, 3, and 4 kHz. There are additional harmonics that get quieter as the frequency goes up and so are difficult to see on this example. The second screenshot is the same sample, using a feature of RX-5 that allows one to select the fundamental frequency, and then select for the overtones too. Here , it is easy to see additional harmonics at 5, …

When I try to install the software for my new MOTU traveler I get a Error that states: Error creating file 1008:5,-35 Drive Not Found Has anyone seen this before? I put a ticket in to MOTU but they said a response would come in 1 to 2 buisness days.

Installed a copy of Boom Recorder on my MacBook Pro. I couldn't get it to launch, without getting the "spinning beachball" 5 seconds after I launch it. As it turns out, Boom Recorder will lunch with the Mixer (Onix 1620) only if the mixer is plugged into a 110 power. BR doesn't work if the mixer is being powered via the 12vdc option that I have. Anyone else have this issue? It's gotta be a weird issue where the FireWire card simply just doesn't work nice with the 12vdc? weird.. -Richard

I just got a Fireface 400 and was wondering from experienced users about the clock's accuracy. Is it good enough to jam to a timecode slate every 4 hours or would I still need to get a better timecode source elsewhere. I used a MOTU Traveler and that clock is totally unreliable. I also tried a TC Konnekt 24D before and that clock seems relatively accurate. But the drivers plagued with issues.
