http://news.yahoo.com/former-sen-fred-thompson-had-tv-film-roles-231012877.html Wielage and I worked with the Senator once (did we do two, Marc ?), and we got the "only address him as Senator Thompson" spiel from the producers. I don't know If Wielage's memory is different, but I recall the Senator being quite cooperative with the wiring process, very professional, and quite gracious. Didn't really agree with his politics, but I thank him for his service. RIP

Bruce Nazarian passed away from a heart attack this past Friday. Most here may know his name from the days he operated a post facility (Gnome Sound) at the Lantana building, and later Magnolia in Burbank. He was not only an accomplished engineer, but also a talented musician, who began his career in Detroit. To his credit, Bruce stuck around the Motor City longer than I did, trying to remain engaged in the music business after Berry Gordy unceremoniously pulled up stakes and moved Motown to LA. Much more here, in a better tribute than I could possibly do: https://larryjordan.com/blog/in-memoriam-bruce-nazarian/ -S

One of the best things about wiring people up is that theres a chance for me to observe them and get to know them. On this current food show, by the time a restaurant scene is lit, and the producer is rounded up, I have frequently had a full conversation with interesting folk from around the globe. My dashing about, concerned only with footage, not very aware of how she impacts other people, and not very adept at actually reading other people producer is another story. She sits down, slaps on a very forced smile, and jumps right in. When she wrangles customers to be on camera, she purposely undersells the level of committment and time necessary, in order to convince peopl…

Warning to 688 owners if you've bought the machine before v2.1 firmware be aware that when the firmware trial period runs out as mine did today my machine wouldn't drop into record , a message comes up on the recorder saying please download latest firmware it was nearly very embarrassing luckily I was near Wifi and was able to upgrade before the client was aware but I must question the practice of blocking the recorder from working, hoping this doesn't happen in future updates Best Giancarlo

Just a reminder for Local 695 members that tomorrow (Friday) or Saturday are the last chance to send in ballots for ratification of the new Basic Contract. That's the one with a 3% rate increase and 10% bump in pension for active participants. You may think that your one vote doesn't count for much... but it does. And in a larger sense, just the fact that you voted counts, too. The producers watch these things closely and when the vote count gets lower from year to year, they interpret that as being a sign that a disengaged membership is a membership ripe for exploitation at the next negotiations. Don't let that happen. Drop your postage-paid ballot in the mail as s…
