Happy New Year to my Brothers, and Sisters, Friends and even Foe's. So far so good. Can't be worse than 2017 can it? Only if we let it. Focus on the love you can bring to each day. Battle the urge to fight hate with hate. Humor and forgiveness are better weapons. Onward, Upward we march Forward. Maximum respect. CrewC

With the holidays close upon us, I would like to share a personal experience about drinking and driving.Well, two days ago, this happened to me: I was out for an evening with friends and had more than several whiskeys followed by a few glasses of rather nice red wine. Although relaxed, I still had the common sense to know I was way over the limit. That's when I did something I've never done before -- I took a taxi home!! Sure enough, on the way, there was a police roadblock, but since it was a taxi they waved it past and I arrived home safely without incident. This was a real surprise to me because I had never driven a taxi before. I don't know where I got it, and now that…

This time around I had the pleasure of speak with Whit Norris right before hurricane Irma made her presence known in Atlanta. We mainly focus on some of the projects he's worked on, some gear talk, and what it takes to get started in the industry.

I was waiting to try and gather my own personal feelings, I am very saddened by Ed's passing, not really able to express --- I have posted some comments from others (available already from Facebook to the Hollywood Reporter and many other sources. Los Angeles, CA, 11 August 2017--- CAS Board Member and previous CAS Career Achievement Recipient Ed Greene passed away on 9 August 2017 surrounded by family. Greene also previously served as a Governor of the Sound Branch of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “The Sound community has lost an icon,” said CAS President Mark Ulano. “And the CAS Board has lost the voice of someone who held a va…

Interesting headline in INDIEWIRE this week... ‘Dunkirk’ Is Too Loud For Some Viewers, But Christopher Nolan Says That’s the Way He Likes It Complaints are starting to mount. Is it bad theaters, Nolan's unorthodox and bold use of sound, or is it just too damn loud? Yesterday during an advance screening of “Atomic Blonde,” the roar of “Dunkirk” from the theater below could be heard — and felt — above and beyond an ass-kicking Charlize Theron. Christopher Nolan’s World War II movie is loud — but when does soundscape become bombast? “It was VERY loud. Too loud in fact,” wrote a Reddit user in a popular post titled “PSA: A warning …

Senator was nice enough to spend almost 3 1/2 hours with me doing a video chat, and it's all here. Yes, it's a long one, but there's lot's of good stuff in here. Once Senator gets rolling I just sat back and listened with just a few questions here and there. This is a good one to start and stop as you are able, unless of course you have the time to watch the whole thing.

Michael P. Clark is a production sound mixer based out of Atlanta, and is currently mixing The Walking Dead. He's also done season two of Stranger Things, Good Eats (one of my personal favorite shows), Feasting on Asphalt (another personal fav), and many others. Here's the full video where we talk about working on these shows and other things. Thanks, Mike, for taking the time out of your weekend to do this with me. I really appreciate it!

[Interesting article from The New Yorker. Medium length by their standards; perhaps a 20 to 30-minute read. Because of the length, I'll include the whole five-paragraph anecdotal lede... an interesting article; I knew some of this stuff but not all of it. Check it out. -Jim] DEPT. I need to rent some gear in Hong Kong, basically Shure rackmount RX and body pack TXs, as well as a flock of boundary-layer type floor mics (like Crown PCC160). Who has a suggestion of a rental house for me? My web searches have mostly yielded companies who don't have what I need. thanks
