I’m reaching out to see if there are any sound professionals who may have worked with this Actor- Tyler Christopher , he passed last year and I just wanted to see if anyone who may remember him have any memories or anything to pass on back to his friends and family back here in Ohio. He want out west and “made it” my favorite roll of his was on In to the West a mini- series on TNT in 2004 that Spielberg produced. He played a native-American translator officer in the civil war. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2013/01/24/addicted-to-facebook-study-shows-users-are-lonelier/?intcmp=features "For individuals in their mid-30s and 40s Facebook envy was most often experienced by women looking at postings or photographs related to family happiness or physical attractiveness." I can see the wife (or husband) of somebody on here surfing facebook crying and then looking over at their companion who is on Jwsound and their laughing/taking notes etc and getting even more sad. Very glad I surf this instead of facebook. Cudos to Jeff! I am so very thankful for this site! Made my own clip art to get the point across although I think the woman would be …

Audio Engineering Society : Announcement AES64-2012 Command, control, and connection management for integrated media This standard for networked command, control, and connection management for integrated media is an IP-based peer-to-peer network protocol, in which any device on the network may initiate or accept control, monitoring, and connection management commands. The AES64 protocol has been developed around three important concepts: structuring, joining, and indexing. Every parameter is part of a structure, and control is possible at any of the levels of the structure, allowing for control over sets of parameters. Parameters can be joined into groups, thereb…

AES Standards Committee Chair, Bruce Olson, reports an important step forward in the development of Audio over IP in broadcasting: The Audio Engineering Society and the EBU have announced a collaboration with the goal of producing a new common packet-based network standard for linear PCM audio. This liaison is officially entitled "Next generation AES/EBU Interface Based On IP Technology." These two organizations have a history of fruitful collaboration. First published in 1985, the AES3 standard, also known as the AES/EBU interface, is a fundamental standard for the transport of digital audio signals between professional devices. The new liaison is a continuation of …

I posted this last year... Were someone, for some inane reason, to compile a list of people who qualify as being "a waste of space, " then surely film critics would be top ten material. I watched in writhing agony this weekend as two dorky, smug, superscillious individuals barely old enough to remember what real movie stars and good movies used to be, tried to out -intellectualize and out-pontificate each other in their rambling so -called critique of current movies. If the opinions of these pathetic wannabes are the best the networks can come up with in order to cater to the film going public then we should all stay at home and watch re-runs of the Andy Griffith Show.…

A producer I have worked with before wanted me to cut my rate to do some "Simple Sit down Interviews" and she also wanted to feed audio to 5D and not run double system. I told her no to both and this is the email I got today. Remind me to never again do an interview without you there. I just uploaded the footage from yesterday and it's totally unusable. God knows what the camera op did, he said he knew what he was doing, but the audio sounds like the people are 100 miles away and we're in a wind tunnel. It was this wealthy couple who totally rearranged they're schedule to do this for me. I'm mortified. Anyway - just want you to know I've always appreciated your …

Hi All, I just posted something on the thread "certain reservations"... It came out looking like the quote of the quote of the... I don't know... Is there a good place to learn board posting procedures and what all those things like <g> and "Schrieb" mean... I did find out why some people end posts with a "ploink"... I would rather make a decent shot on a billiards table than "ploink" on the net. I am afraid that figuring out the 01v96 will keep me somewhat ignorant of proper posting 'n stuff... but I'm trying ! any help or direction appreciated. ThX Jeff C

One of the other offshoots of the digital video era is the facility that DP's now have to shoot 'cross coverage" thereby making it tough for boom men to do a good job when two cameras are facing in opposite directions, sometimes on opposite sides of the line (another directing trend). If the actors are two far apart to cue then it's either two booms or a boom and a wire, neither of which is a problem, but it seems to me to be another step away from camera/sound co-operation. No longer is there a discussion about shooting wide and tight or even a good humored apology. It's taken for granted that we "deal with it". Again, no real problem, but it exemplifies the rapidly chan…
