Hi, a technical question (so i hope this was the right place to ask). I have previously only used 'Y' leads to feed line level FROM my mixer but i wondering if i can feed (directly, without a separate powering box) 2 mic inputs (of mixer) from 1 phantom powered mic. If so do i switch phantom (p48) powering 'ON' for both the respective I/Ps or just 1? And even if this is workable are there any issues like S/N ratios? thanks for reading, dan. ps. I would have done the experiment but i don't want to damage my mic or mixer. pps. The elements involved include a Sanken Cub-01, SD302, Tascam DR-680 and a source with potentially a very wide dynamic…

Hello all This is my first topic. Today I left my Soundcraft Signature 12 to the local audio engineer to be modified to 12volt DC power. I plan to run it through my MeON cart power with 12volt DC on 13Amps. I wrote to Soundcraft and ask them for some schematics about board's power rails. They give me just a simple answer like this one - " Yes, as an analogue mixer with USB functionality, it does indeed require +/-17V (approx), 5V (USB) and 48V (phantom power). regards" So a week later I will have some more info and can tell you more about this. Really hope all this will be s…

I have a Nagra IV-S machine which I used to transfer quite a few 2 track tapes to digital. However, the utility of the machine as a transfer and home audio deck would be magnified a thousand fold if I was able to play 1/4 track tapes on it, of which I have A LOT, as well as 2 track. As a safe transport for old delicate tapes it has no equal. I was thinking that maybe a 1/4 playback head could be installed where the pilotone head is, and could be switched in and out of the playback amp. Has anyone ever heard of such a conversion? Has anyone here ever converted a Nagra into a 1/4 track machine? Or know anyone who could do such a thing? Has anyone here ever SEEN a 1/4 tr…

10 Statements on Condenser Microphones vs. Dynamic Microphones By audio specialist Eddy B. Brixen www.dpamicrophones.com The topic of discussion on the difference between dynamic microphones and condenser microphones is never ending. That’s fine, we don’t want it to end, rather, we want to add to the discussion and further enlighten readers a little…First of all, we must clarify a few things: The difference between dynamic microphones and condenser microphones is all about two different transducer principles. In other words, it has nothing to do with the directional characteristics of the microphones. You cannot ask: ‘What kind of directional characteristic do…

Can anyone advise on making a cable or project box that can step 18 down to 15 volts dc? I am looking to power a euphonix mc mix (requires 15 vdc) from a PSC powermax (wired to provide 18 vdc out). Thanks Greg

From what I understand, 2 cardiod capsules, back to back, and out of phase, create a figure 8 pattern. If this is correct, which way is front and back of the created figure 8? Looking at the graphs I would think the sides of the cardiods are now front and back of the figure 8, and the two fronts of both cardiods, being out of phase, cancel each other out. Is this correct?

I am trying to find a way to work with true 24P timebase using SD664 as the sound recorder and a PIX240 mounted on a Scarlet-X to record 24P Quicktime proxy files. PIX240 is fed with a scratch track via a Lectrosonics SRb in a Ambient Vslot adapter. I am outputting 1080p24 genlock signal from PIX 240 to a RED Scarlet-X and timecode as well. Video File resolution rate on PIX 240 is set to 1080p24/23.976. Sync Out is set to 24P. Timecode is in Freerun mode. Project time base on the Scarlet is set to 24 and SDI output is set to 24hz. Everything works OK as long as the Scarlet-X powered up and feeds the PIX 240 with a 24hz SDI signal. However, the instant I turn the cam…

So I recently bought a second hand 416T and have noticed it seems to have a more self noise than I expected as well as not having as much gain as I expected. Not knowing if this is just a common 416 sound I recently got to compare it to another 416T and it is noticeably different. I pulled the capsules out and the 416T I bought second hand has a KS16 cap and the other one has a KS15. I am now thinking that my mic has had a replacement capsule put in but wanted to know if the KS16 cap is 48v? Just trying not to fry any of the components. James

I’m not to crash hot on the whole balance, unbalanced, line and mic level thing. I’m sure I have balanced/unbalanced sorted but not how it all combines with line & mic levels and wiring. Here’s what I need to do. I have a 442 and a Tascam Dr-60. I want to be able to record the 4 direct outputs to the Tascam which has 2 x XLR inputs and a 3.5mm jack for channels 3&4. So the variety of input types has sticked me up a bit. The 2 x XLR inputs can be selected between line or mic. The 3.5mm mini jack is/can only be unbalanced line level, correct? So to get everything matching as best as possible I’ll need to change the 442 settings so that the outputs are …

I want to make a TC cable. I usually use a 75ohm connector for TC, but I currently have a bunch of leftover 50ohm BNCs. Does it make any difference which one I use?

Forgive me if this has already been covered, but could not find in a search. I'm looking to contruct a female xlr > 6 pin lemo for micron cable. Does anybody know how the hot/cold/shield from the starquad xlr female cable terminates onto the 6 pin lemo (for micron-style connectors). I solder xlr cables very frequently but haven't tried soldering lemo connectors before (I gather they can be very fidgety!) but fancy having a go in some down-time. Any tips much appreciated!

Hi, Recently on a shoot the time code on my SD 633 kept resetting to 0.00 every time the machine was powered off. Even though i had entered the time of day and jammed the camera. Not sure why as usually it holds it for the day. Anybody know what might be causing this? Or rather how I guarantee it stays..

633 T Power

I was just curious if anyone else has had this problem or knows what I might be doing wrong. I have a T powered 416 when plugged into the 633 with t power I get no signal yet when I feed it 48v with a 48v/12v adaptor it get signal. Could I be wiring it wrong? The reason I ask is that I seem to be getting a lot of high freq noise and doesn't seem as clean as p48 versions I have used in the past, I was hoping to remove the adaptor from the chain to rule that out and hopefully get my 416t sounding better. Any help is greatly appreciated.

My 788t locked up during recording. I had to unplug it and take to battery out to shut it down and reboot. Has this happened to anyone else? Any clues why this happened? Thanks

I did some simple searches on the site and could not find... What is the original definition of ADR? I've always thought it was down the lines of (pun unintentional) Audio Dialogue Replacement, or Recording. But I just finished watching our fearless governator in the orig TERMINATOR and there was a credit for 'Additional Dialogue' by William Wisher, jr. Is the AD for ADR? Up too late for any goodness, Doug
