TRANSMITTER -- RF INTERFERENCE IN AUDIO 1. Audio cables have to be good (best are Canare 4E6S). Solder joints cannot be cold or partially cold. Shells of XLR connector may not be grounded. The Mixer has to have a good RF resistant input. The cable sends some RF to the following electronics and if they just rectify the RF you will hear it of course. Cooper mixers, with Jensen Trafos are good, so is Soundevices with the Swedish ones they use. Cheap boards are trouble. Some “digitalâ€ boards have inputs that go much too high in freq (excessive bandwidth) and will rectify RF. 2. Some older Schoeps CMC electronics are more sensitive than others – test which seria…

Just wondering if anyone has heard of any RF co-ordination software that works in Australia. Have looked at Professional wireless' IAS software but only seems to support USA RF coordination. Cheers in advance Michael

Hey all, I had another question about the Canter, this may seam like an amateur question but what would be the easiest (and wallet friendly) way to send a signal out to the director, for the moment. I want to send a signal I am hearing out to the director, and I don't have a mixer yet so its just the cantar X2, so what would I need to get besides the high cost lectros, or an easy temp set up that will work for now?

I have been recruited by my kids' elementary school theatre director to help with their feedback problem... To start with, I have suggested they only use two of their four speakers, since volume is not an issue. Four speakers sending sound bouncing around the room seemed an obvious problem. This is a relatively small are, and is a multi-purpose room with linoleum floors. When it's full of people, the problem is less, of course, but they are having trouble rehearsing. I have angled the speaker so they are not pointed directly at the back wall. Their biggest problem is with their lavs. I installed a delay box between the mixer output and the amp, but it doesn't s…

I have recently been doing some fairly simple sit down interviews with a bunch of ladies, who's voice could not be any quieter. I ask them to talk louder if possible but my request falls on deaf ears. The room we have been using is also not very quiet, AC constantly on, traffic outside ect.. So my question is: What would be the optimal mic for a boom pole for something like that? Right now I am using B6 for lav and the Schopes CMIT 5U for the shotgun. I was thinking maybe a Schopes capsule like the MK4? Any advice would be great. Thanks, Nejc P

I have a question about the Aaton Cantar X2, I know a lot of mixers use it so figured would be a good place to ask questions, I have been using the Cantar for a couple months now, and love it. Its a great machine, but very complicated to use. I know its probably not the best recorder to first start out with but I like a challenge. My question is, the mixer faders on the top of the Cantar, do I have to assign the tracks or mics to those faders? Or am I just crazy and they are there for a different reason? And yes I have read the manual but translated from french to english it makes 0 sense. I had to get a friend of mine that speaks french to read the french version…

So ....for the past three weeks I've been soldering like a madman. About three feet away from my workbench I have an alarm clock radio. What can I say I like to listen to NPR as I sniff the fumes. Today for the firs time I noticed an odd thing. I was working on the 1/8" return for my HD cable run and any time I touched the sleeve arm of the connector with the tip of the soldering iron the radio would take and RF hit. A pretty bad one! I tried this a few times and sure enough, thats what it was. I disconnected the soldering base station and the anomaly went away. ???? what's going on, Induction?? Anyway, I know that this has little to do with the purpose of this group…

Hello everyone, I've looked through the site and have found some very good info in regards to the setups used by many of you. I've looked at the Meon and PSC offerings and think the pricing is very high for what I need. From what I have gathered so far, I am looking for a 13.8v/10a regulated power supply, to float over a fully charged "xxmAhr" battery, and then out to some sort of 4-pin distro box and distribution method to get it to all the parts. My question is what are the favorite Power Supply's in use? Favorite batteries? And in regards to distribution boxes, what is necessary for this? Is it straight copper to copper for wiring, or do I need fuses, diodes, etc, …

I discovered this site whilst exploring a "Patchbot" at a very cool Tech based art gallery in NYC. From their home page: "Pd (aka Pure Data) is a real-time graphical programming environment for audio, video, and graphical processing...." Click on the community tab to see some interesting projects. http://puredata.info/ Must see Art Gallery: http://www.eyebeam.org/

I am i correct in thinking that recordings made with the latest machines ( SD , Deva , Cantar , PD606 ) are supposed to be absolutely quiet , upon playback , ie. no noise what so ever from the media , even with recordings of very low level sounds ? 1/4 inch tape has a little hiss as I remember . Hi. Am currently using a wendt x4. Just recently tried using the audio technica atw-100 series as a headphone cue. i realise that the wendt x4 has a mic out instead of the usual tape out on fp33 and sd mixers. did some read up and it says that the mic out provides 50dB below line level signal (which should be -60dB). need some advice on the connection schematics to do a 1/8" to Switchcraft TA5F (5 pin mini-XLR) cable for connecting from x4 mic out to audio technica transmitter.[/b Thanks!

I've worked with Deva 2 for so long... I am used to getting 8 "track hours" out of 2G partitions... At 48K/24bit I can count on 1tk = 8hrs on a 2G block, 2tk = 4hrs on a 2G block, 4tks = 2hrs on a 2G block ....... when it comes down to 2G partitions... I've got a 2hr performance recording coming up, and the client wants 16 tracks plus timecode.... I am looking for the storage capacity he'll / we'll need to be ready for.... I plan on using BoomRecorder here.... For BoomRecorder users, has the formula been roughly the the same ? (1 tk for 8 hrs = 2g) Therefore, 17 tks at 8 hrs would require 34G ..... Since I'm only recording for 2hrs (8/4 = 2, thus…

I did some simple searches on the site and could not find... What is the original definition of ADR? I've always thought it was down the lines of (pun unintentional) Audio Dialogue Replacement, or Recording. But I just finished watching our fearless governator in the orig TERMINATOR and there was a credit for 'Additional Dialogue' by William Wisher, jr. Is the AD for ADR? Up too late for any goodness, Doug
