Dropped off my Schoeps CMIT 5U at LSC today for service. Had used it recently with a Roland R-44 (no mixer in this case), and about half way thru a simple one-hour long recording, the mic GRADUALLY started to produce a low-level crackle. Had hoped it was just a bad R-44, but the mic performed the same on another recorder when used. Unfortunately, LSC confirmed it was the mic. Given the mic was performing fine early in the same recording, and gradually got worse, I feel like I'm going out on a short limb to assume the R-44 phantom power damaged the mic? Has anyone else experienced this sort of damage? I couldn't find anything regarding the R-44 damaging a mic. …

Hey Everyone, I'm new to using "Wingman" with my Sound Devices 664, and I'm experiencing some problems that even Sound Devices can't figure out, So I thought to turn to you and see if any of you have experienced some of these problems, and or, been able to fix them. I'm running version 4.01 on my 664 and loaded the Wingman app on my ipad mini and my iphone. With an approved Sandisc SD and CF cards in the machine, and the app up and running, I can put the 664 into record, but the app disconnects after about 2 sec. and the 664 will still be running in record. I have to manually stop the recorder. I can't re-start the app with out completely re-booting the app. I …

Have just come across an old Soundcraft LM1 mixer that I'd like to dust down and get working properly again. If anyone is familiar with this mixer i'd like to know how to adjust the 1khz tone generator level so it hits 4ppm/0dbu when the master L-R is up to 0. At the moment tone is lining up between 4.5-6PPM when I'm adjusting the needle sensitivity with a tweaker (doesn't go any lower). Thanks in advance!

I'm a recording engineer based in Boston. About a month ago I some tests measuring and comparing the relative sensitivities for various wireless mic heads using a Lectrosonics HHA transmitter, and a variety of compatible capsules(heads). I've attached a write-up of what we learned-some things many of you may be well aware of. It was very interesting to see what capsules were most sensitive. Sensitivity Report.pdf

On my Nomad I want to have 1-8 AES, analog 5&6 and Zaxnet ON. According to the manual I should use setup #13. But with my Nomad (running 7.77) it is missing AES1&2. Only setup with AES 1-8 ON on MY Nomad is #7. But this would be without Zaxnet and no analog IN. Is it my slightly old software? Or just not possible?? Matthias

Hi All, Trying to program an Icom R5 using ARC5 in order to be able to listen into wireless frequencies for interference etc. Does anyone have lectro block tables in csv or excel format (personally looking particularly for Block 21). Thanks RL

Hello all, I have got a question specifically for Zaxcom NeverClip users. In transmitters how well does this really work? I mean really, honestly. I am not evaluating different system, asking which one should I get. I have an unusual shoot coming up, where there will be an attack dog on set almost all the time. This can erupt barking without any warning and get very loud from one moment to the next. Even if I can bring down the gain on my isos just in time, I won't be able to change the transmitters settings in time - even with Zaxnet. Thus hitting the limiter/compressor. If I set tx gain really low all the time, I'll lose S/N on quieter …

Files weren't copied off the Zoom H6 and the owner had already managed to format the unit. Fortunately as it turns out the owner's not too tech savvy so he used disk utility to format the 8gb lexar (premium series) SD card, and hadn't recorded anything on it. I have the card, I did some recovery and managed to recover the Wav files. Problem is, the files are broken. I watched and read through mutliple tutorials and I couldn't manage to un-corrupt the files but I was left with the impression that it could be done. I would love to know definitely if these files are 100% recoverable, then I'd know how to proceed with the client. I uploaded th…

Hey everyone, This is my first post on this forum so hopefully this is the right place to post this. If not, let me know. I'm excited to have found this online community and I've already learned a ton from reading through the forum. I'm having a weird issue with my Zaxcom Maxx and RX200 and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on how to resolve the issue. Here's what's going on. Zaxcom Maxx with built in transmitter (Block 23) sending audio and timecode to a brand new RX200. It locks signal and works perfectly as long as the Maxx is being powered by the power supply or internal AA batteries but as soon as I plug in an external battery distribu…

From what I understand, 2 cardiod capsules, back to back, and out of phase, create a figure 8 pattern. If this is correct, which way is front and back of the created figure 8? Looking at the graphs I would think the sides of the cardiods are now front and back of the figure 8, and the two fronts of both cardiods, being out of phase, cancel each other out. Is this correct?

Hi all. I've got a documentary shoot coming up about languages. One scene will be a kitchen table discussion with numerous family members sitting around the table talking, unscripted. Production hasn't given me a number for how many participants will be at the table, and I'm not sure they'll know till shoot day. How would you mic this scenario if lavs weren't an option? I was wondering about hanging two cardioids from the ceiling and recording to separate channels, but feel like that's not necessarily the best option. Looking for recommendations. What say you?

Hello, I did 4 scans on my Wireless Receiver, and the first three make sense. The mixer by itself did not add any significant RF, and the TX by itself added the suspected amount, but when I turn them both on I don't have much to choose from. Any ideas? 1)RX 2)RX+Mixer 3)RX+TX in IFB mode 4)RX+Mixer+TX Thanks, Rodrigo

Hi all, Just curious what typical delay do you setup between boom and lav to avoid phasing. My lectro system creates a 3.6 ms so i delay my (cabled) boom channel +3.6ms on my nomad and pretty much leave it at that. What s your recipe do you play alot with it depending of the situation? Cheers!

Hey all, I've edited this topic as I think people are getting confused and answering the wrong thing. I've gotten early into the preproduction of an upcoming film on which I will be sound recordist. It is a great opportunity to do whatever I can before those rushy production days. One thing I told them to do is wash the wardrobe. This is based on information I acquired here in posts about reducing lavalier clothing noise at jwsoundgroup. They asked me if there were any specifics so I decided to ask you guys directly. I wanted to know if anyone knew anything about the following: -Whether they can be safely washed several times in a row (without drying until t…

I have this old Micron tx 501 with a Sony mic but as the Sony is so big to hide I think I would like to change it to a RODE one as can change the cable with those so I can use it with Micron with its own cable. Now you older professionals might remember how to connect this combination. Tried the same as with Sony and didn´t get it working so I put the Sony back. The Rode cable is a nightmare to solder with bad eyesight at least... As a retired sound guy this is more or less for hobby, but if someone can help I would be very thankfull! Matti

Hi, My general understanding of this phenomenon is that mics equally spaced apart in relation to a sound source, if mixed together, result in a degraded audio signal. For example, here is Audio-Technica's explanation: http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/site/f54c2e7c578b36f7/index.html My questions: 1. If the two mics consist of a lav (1' from actor's mouth) and a directional mic on a boom that moves to 1' (very close miking) would phase cancellation occur? I am assuming it would... 2. If one iso'd such mics, would they also produce cancellation if later mixed or layered in relation to each other? Thanks in advance, Mike

Forgive me if this has already been covered, but could not find in a search. I'm looking to contruct a female xlr > 6 pin lemo for micron cable. Does anybody know how the hot/cold/shield from the starquad xlr female cable terminates onto the 6 pin lemo (for micron-style connectors). I solder xlr cables very frequently but haven't tried soldering lemo connectors before (I gather they can be very fidgety!) but fancy having a go in some down-time. Any tips much appreciated!

Looking for some advice so I can plug a mic to any line level only input; there are different settings out there.... Using 10kOhm & 100Ohm resistors seems to be one of the most common but I am not shure if it is the right choice for me Any help? Cheers!
