MP3 - timecode in ID3 tag? I've googled pretty extensively to find some more information about this, and what seems to be the main reference site - ID3.org - seems to have puzzlingly been down since 2012? So I've not made any progress. Can anyone refer me to or know more information about where and how timecode is placed in an MP3 ID3 tag such that transcription houses can use it please? There seems to be a wide variety of ID3 tag readers and editors but timecode reference seems to be outside of thier scope. Anyone know of one that can read or edit the timecode reference please, I couldn't find one? I know BWFWidget Pro can create MP3's with timecode in the I…

...or at least we should know them, or learn them, as they keep coming up! for example, we keep getting asked about interference issues amongst transmi9tters and receivers: "Desensing or receiver desensitization: Desensing occurs when a transmitt er is operating in close, physical proximity to a receiver, even if that transmitter is not on or near the receiver’s operating frequency. Receiver desensitization occurs because receivers must maintain critical voltage and current levels throughout the frontend stages and a strong (i.e. physically close) transmitter can cause these levels to vary greatly. As these levels widely fluctuate, the receiver performance will…

<<Question: I need to setup multiple receiver antennas in four separate studios as well as outdoor antennas for "man in the street" interviews. I want to have eight receivers in a central equipment rack to keep my life simple and I want to combine the remote antennas into as few coaxial cables as possible to save on cable costs and installation. Can I do all this with antenna combiners, splitters and amplifiers?>> We get questions like this about once a month at Lectrosonics. Combining receiving antennas from multiple locations is not trivial. Most of the multiple antenna systems are "saved" by the fact that the distances from talent transmitter to the re…

Hi all, Did some search and couldn t come up with any suitable answer. Video monitoring creates a delay between sound and image that makes judging proper lipsync on music video challenging when looking at monitor. I ve used simple technique to guesstimate delay with a slate listening to my erx ifb but i d like to have a way to have a proper time measurement? Filming fs700 hdmi to hdmi to sony monitor guesstimate gives me around 80ms. Any ideas? Cheers!

Hi all, Before Nomad officially arrives to Sg, I got myself a Zoom H1 because my Zoom H4n went robust!. Unfortunately for me, the line input doesn't seem to match with my SD 442 XLR - 10 or Line Outputs! The only output that works now with the H1 is the Tapes out on the 442. I know it has something that got to do with the Line Input on the H1 and XLR Output level because I managed to get the XLR outputs on my 302 to work after padding it down to -10 Line. any idea how do I go around solving it for the 442? Put some resistors in the 1/8 - 2 XLR cable that I had made maybe?

i have a venue receiver with a VRT installed (all current firmware) when i go to 'Detect' on the venue i get a '?' on this channel. its not the frame, it follows this specific VRT module.. now i can assign it to be block 20, which it says it is on the VRT, but the frame cannot detect it. anyone know why this is?? could it be a VRS module which might have been tagged accidentally a VRT??

I am having issues with setting the level on this camera. pmw-F5-CineAlta- 4K camera The meters don't show decibels. You can change the audio in the menu but it seems when I go to -20 it's lower than zero but setting it at Zero seems to low. any help with this would be great. Of course I am on a shoot right now and any info someone can help me with would be great! Thanks! Marla

I am starting on a show that requires a light run and gun set up and production is asking that I provide a Comtek M 216 TX. I'll be feeding this from the tape out of my SD 302. Just wondering who's used the Sound Devices schematic to build either the mono tape or mic level output cable? http://www.sounddevices.com/notes/mixers/302/302-tech-note-adding-a-mono-mic-level-output/#more-35 Which is best for the M-216? Are there any other options out there that any of you have been using?

Hi, I am new to this forum and fairly new to the film sound game altogether so hello all! I have purchased a used SQN 4s mixer but its creating a significant amount of white noise before I've even plugged anything in! I have switched off phantom power I have unplugged all mics I have tried powering from both AA batteries and an external np1 battery I have made a short recording and listened back on my laptop to confirm that it is not merely the sound of the headphone amp The noise is only really acceptable when the faders are very low, could anybody shed some light on what this may be or if Its a common problem I should just put up with or buy b…

With a properly wired cable for line input into the Lectro TX the TX cannot be attenuated enough to make it useable. The 302was set to factory default line output and the cable was wired as per Lectro with the line source feeding pin 5 on the TA5. A call to Lectro tech support came up with a solution of adding a 10k ohm resistor in series with the positive feed which dropped the "0" level of .775vac to .395vac from the 302which should be fine. Lectro tech thinks it's an impedence mismatch between the 302 & the 400a causing the problem. Anyone ever had the same type of issue with a 302 & a UM400a? Thanks, Eric

Hi all, I just bought the PSC SC -4 Sound Cart second hand and was wondering if anybody has a copy of the assembly instructions for the cart. I have searched for it online and can't find anything. I would like to take it all apart and give it a good clean up. Also, I would like to know if its missing any washers, bolts or other items. Thanks! Paul

Somebody over on Gearslutz just asked this question, so I thought I'd put up a list of a half-dozen discussions over the last few years on this subject... Some discussions on different techniques for micing dialogue in cars over on the JWSound Group: I think it would be nice to have a Frequently Asked Questions section so that when people ask "which microphone is best for this room?" or "what frequency will work in City X," we could just refer to them with a link. Or better yet, make sure they understand that they should check the FAQ section first rather than post a question that's been answered many times.

Hi all, Pretty new to field sound. Ive recently been having issues with scanning for clear freq's. i have 4 lectrosonic 411a's. maybe im doing it wrong? my way: Turn on all receivers and transmitters. let sit for a couple seconds. then, turn off all transmitters. Scan with all 4 receivers ( blocks 19,20,(2)21's ) at the same time. find the clearest location on each rx and tweak on all matching tx's. everything is fine until i place them on the talent. It seems like i cant be any more than 10 feet away from all 4 without losing full signal. any suggestions would be great. thanks

Hey, Is it possible to wire an adaptor (ta5 to waterproof MM) to work for both positive and negative bias trams? I feel like the stock mm adaptors are wired to handle both but I'm not sure how that would be wired - Is there an extra jumper somewhere on the ta5M side of the adaptor? Specifically I'm trying to figure out what the wiring should be for that lectro cable that works with both +/-bias trams and a redband cos-11.. The current cable I have doesn't work at all with the -bias tram and creates some grounding issues with the cos-11 when you touch the metal casing of the MM thanks!

I am trying to find a way to work with true 24P timebase using SD664 as the sound recorder and a PIX240 mounted on a Scarlet-X to record 24P Quicktime proxy files. PIX240 is fed with a scratch track via a Lectrosonics SRb in a Ambient Vslot adapter. I am outputting 1080p24 genlock signal from PIX 240 to a RED Scarlet-X and timecode as well. Video File resolution rate on PIX 240 is set to 1080p24/23.976. Sync Out is set to 24P. Timecode is in Freerun mode. Project time base on the Scarlet is set to 24 and SDI output is set to 24hz. Everything works OK as long as the Scarlet-X powered up and feeds the PIX 240 with a 24hz SDI signal. However, the instant I turn the cam…

Hey Guys. Just wanted to check what radio frequencies / blocks are safe to use in the state of Georgia and Tennessee? Im ( very luckily ) heading out that way for a 3 week shoot from Ireland and was wondering if i can still use my ch38 /Block23-ish (606 to 630 MHz) freq radios or do i have to rent something more suitable out there? Ill only really be using 2 or 3 max at any time.. Also do i need to acquire a license? Any help is appreciated, Gray

Any of you live studio audience specialists have some good advice for minimizing feedback off cos-11s when fed into house PA system? Would a program like the Daily Show be running feedback eliminators and other special gear to allow more amplification? Sorry if this has been discussed ad naseum on this forum - I couldn't find any record... Thanks! S

so, I thought I understood polar pattern diagrams pretty well and then I was looking at the diagram for one of my mics - beyerdynamic 736pv http://www.coutant.org/beyerpdf/mc736-737.pdf - it's not the clearest image, but it's something to use as an example. anyway, from what I'm seeing on this diagram it seems the 'sweet spot' is between 330 and 0 degrees. so my confusion is this - if the 'sweet spot' is slightly off axis (not 0 degrees) but seems to fall off as you get to 30 degrees does that mean that it's more important to pay attention to how you mount the mic (top/bottom) than a mic like the schoeps cmit5u which has a diagram showing the patern equal at …

Hey Guys, I have been using my 552 on a few jobs recently and listening back to a few files a crazy loud noise, resembling radio interference cuts in for a few seconds and nearly deafens me. It's not there monitoring in real recording time but is there when I listen back. Which is terrible news as I can't rely on it for work now. It's nothing to do with radios and I'm only booming and it still happens.. Anybody had a similar experience? I don't think it's a corrupt SD Card as its happened with two cards now. Could it be A faulty mixer / Wav writer? I'll try and post an example later..

Funny I just started diving into HAM stuff and for the first time realized that audio and radio were not technically on the same spectrum. I always remember those spectrum line images with light up to cosmic rays at one end and sound near the other, but after realizing radio freq's have a much longer wavelength but the frequency is technically higher really messed me up for awhile. Now that I understand that radio is a propagation in relation to light and not in an air medium in regards to frequency, what is the highest audio type frequency that can be reproduced? I know we can't hear above 20k, but what is the highest frequency a human can reproduce by moving air pre…

The other day I was rigging a bag for a job and noticed something odd I wanted to share with you. In the bag: 788t, 3x Sennie EK100G2 with DC-2 battery eliminators on a Hawkwoods VLR-SQN4S. The 788t was connected to the VLRs fixed cable. One of the Sennies showed one bar of reception, although all TX were off, and my RF-Explorer one meter away on the table showed an empty spectrum. I took the RF-Explorer in the bag, and the noise foor was around 9db higher, with a slight sawtooth pattern. I plugged the 788t off the Hawkwood power source and the noisefloor went down. I powered the 788t from the last Hirose connector, but the noise went up again. I suspected some correl…
