Hi All! I know it's not usual but I am in a strange situation and searching for a solution. We have a film that has only this sound source, all other original materials got lost during the years... I am searching for a projector sound head or whole projector to digitize this film's sound: That's the best I found about it on the internet: http://www.graumanschinese.org/projection-2.html The whole point of CinemaScope was to give the public that Cinerama feel — without having to make expensive alterations to a theatre. Because of the grain factor, Sponable wanted to use as large a negative as was possible in 35mm, which meant going back to the silent aperture, …

Has anyone tried connecting the BNC output of a Lectrosonics Venue System to the BNC input on a Sound Devices SL-6? I want to share the reception my Venue System receives from my powered shark fins with a 688/SL-6 set up to expand my wireless setup on my cart. The coaxial run between the Venue System to the SL-6 would only be 50cm or so.

I recently bought some secondhand Countryman EWM lavalieres and was hoping to re-terminate them to fit a Sennheiser G3. I received them today and am a little puzzled as to how to do this exactly. There is a huge preamp looking thing on the end which is essentially housed in the XLR. Having only worked with Sennheiser ME2s and DPAs I have never seen this before and am wondering where to take it from here.. Any advice would be great. https://goo.gl/photos/mdJ71CtwY77Zajy27

Hey guys, I'm pretty good at sound, but not so much at soldering. I have a 5 pin lemo to 1/8" TS (TC OUT) cable I got custom made from one of the usual suspects and I was shocked to find that the only thing keeping the cable from coming apart was the solder itself with no strain relief. Is this normal for a Lemo connector? Needless to say it's in 2 pieces now. To make matters worse, I tried to fix it myself and all the pins are now more or less wired together, solder everywhere. So #1) What's the best way to remove the unwanted solder so I can start over? I've watched videos about solder wick (copper braid) and solder suction devices but can't find them in my local har…

633 T Power

I was just curious if anyone else has had this problem or knows what I might be doing wrong. I have a T powered 416 when plugged into the 633 with t power I get no signal yet when I feed it 48v with a 48v/12v adaptor it get signal. Could I be wiring it wrong? The reason I ask is that I seem to be getting a lot of high freq noise and doesn't seem as clean as p48 versions I have used in the past, I was hoping to remove the adaptor from the chain to rule that out and hopefully get my 416t sounding better. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Good day my fellow sound peeps. Just a question.... I usually use the NP-F970 lithium batteries on my SRb receiver and it lasts a few days. Bought a NP-F550 today and just want to know what the average hours you guys get out of it?Or should I rather ask,at what voltage does the SRb switches off,if the battery runs flat? Thank you in advance

My apologies if this is a silly question or has been asked and answered before. I made a cursory search of the archives and did not find anything on-topic. I currently own a pair of Sanken COS-11D mics, wired with locking 1/8-inch mini plugs for Sennheiser G3 wireless packs. I will soon be adding a pair of new packs to my kit and am looking at at an Lectronics L-series combo. That acquisition will exhaust my equipment budget for a few months. Consequently, I would rather not have to buy new COS-11Ds simply because of the change in connector type (from 1/8-inch to TA5F). I intend to keep my G3s, and ideally, would like to have the flexibility be able to use the COS-11D…

So I recently bought a second hand 416T and have noticed it seems to have a more self noise than I expected as well as not having as much gain as I expected. Not knowing if this is just a common 416 sound I recently got to compare it to another 416T and it is noticeably different. I pulled the capsules out and the 416T I bought second hand has a KS16 cap and the other one has a KS15. I am now thinking that my mic has had a replacement capsule put in but wanted to know if the KS16 cap is 48v? Just trying not to fry any of the components. James

Hello, If using a headphone monitor with a XLR pass-through like the Rolls PM55P, does it matter if I am using cables with a different brand, spec? If not, then in which case using different cables can become a problem? Until now I have only used one cable from source to equipment, unless going through mixers or preamps. Thanks.

Gotham Sound came up with this amazing tool for archiving frequency spectrum scans. The user base can submit their scans to be added to this repository, helping all sound mixers in the world better prepare for frequency coordination: http://gothamfaxes.com If everyone helps submit scans to this repository, we will forever answer life's greatest question: "what blocks are usable in XXX city?"

Hi Guys, New on here and new enough to location recording I hope you can help me out here. At the weekend i was shooting a scene where the talent was almost whispering and eventually went onto screaming. Just wondering what the best way is to record this. Is it a case of setting low levels to avoid clipping or pull back the boom? Thanks

Hi All, Any body got an idea on what frequencies are available in Papua New Guinea particularly round Port Moresby and the Southern Highlands. Are they affected by the Australian Digital Dividend? Any advice will be gladly appreciated.

I’m not to crash hot on the whole balance, unbalanced, line and mic level thing. I’m sure I have balanced/unbalanced sorted but not how it all combines with line & mic levels and wiring. Here’s what I need to do. I have a 442 and a Tascam Dr-60. I want to be able to record the 4 direct outputs to the Tascam which has 2 x XLR inputs and a 3.5mm jack for channels 3&4. So the variety of input types has sticked me up a bit. The 2 x XLR inputs can be selected between line or mic. The 3.5mm mini jack is/can only be unbalanced line level, correct? So to get everything matching as best as possible I’ll need to change the 442 settings so that the outputs are …

I friend of mine asked if it is possible to recover the programing on an helical video tape from the early 1970"s The tape is a Sony V-32 I see that there are companies that offer this service and was wondering if anyone on JWSound has used any of these services and , if so, how did it go? Is there any company that you would recommend? Thanks, Bob

Hey guys, I'm totally stumped. I got the Remote Audio straight replacement cable since my cans were a bit old and one of the ears had gone out. I'm not the world's best solderer but here's what's now happening. Left channel goes to Left ear (as planned). Left AND Right channels go to Right ear instead of Right channel only. I can't figure out why the Left channel is getting to the right ear, full and clear. I tested with a couple different playback devices using youtube stereo test videos. I also put a stereo song in a DAW. Panned full L, I hear L in both ears, Panned full R, I hear R in Right ear, nothing in L ear. Panned center, I think I'm hearing L…

SD_664_Ch5_NTG3_Noisy.wav I've just tried posting twice and both times somehow deleted all the text, so here's an ulltra brief run down of my issue: Channel 5 of my 664 is producing a weird noise, as heard in the attached sample. It is not cable or mic related as both have been switched out. It happens with both the 416 and Rode NTG3, and any cable. It is intermittent. I first heard it two days ago, about 4 hours into a corporate shoot- single boom, in channel 5. Noise would come and go. Usually immediately after buttoning on. I switched the cable out, the problem persisted, I switched 416 out to the NTG3 and the problem dissapeared. Next day I'm using the NTG3 on a…

Hi guys, I'm a long time viewer of the site but haven't posted anything until now. Most of the time any questions I have can be answered by a scan through this site but I want to make sure i'm on the right track with this! I may be doing some work in Taiwan come November and i'm looking at frequencies over there. I have only previously worked in Europe. So far I have only found this - http://www.ncc.gov.tw/english/files/07060/92_070605_1.pdf Am I right in thinking I can use some frequencies of Channel 69 radio mics over there? All my equipment is currently CH38. It also seems I am limited to very low power transmitters- does anyone have any experience with th…

[edited for clarity] Hi Guys, I am getting no love from the manufacturer or the distributor of the microphone, so I am forced to ask here. Has anyone successfully terminated an OST TL40 for Wisycom systems? My best guess would be to wire it for the "2 wire + bias" setting on the wisycom Tx, however I'm suffering a little bit of a mental block over the supply voltage available. The manufacturers spec lists the nominal supply voltage for the TL40 as 1.2volts, the wisy's offer 5.5volts - should I be looking to wire in a resistor or will the mic operate happily with a 5.5v supply? There is no maximum supply voltage offered by the OST on their website and they were…
