I am trying to build a Tape (-10db) to Mic (-50db) pad. It is to cut the level from a stereo -10db source to a stereo mic input on a video camera. The stereo signal needs to be maintained. Does anyone have a schematic for this?

Hello everyone, I've looked through the site and have found some very good info in regards to the setups used by many of you. I've looked at the Meon and PSC offerings and think the pricing is very high for what I need. From what I have gathered so far, I am looking for a 13.8v/10a regulated power supply, to float over a fully charged "xxmAhr" battery, and then out to some sort of 4-pin distro box and distribution method to get it to all the parts. My question is what are the favorite Power Supply's in use? Favorite batteries? And in regards to distribution boxes, what is necessary for this? Is it straight copper to copper for wiring, or do I need fuses, diodes, etc, …

Greetings all: I've done way too much work with the Canon DSLRs lately. I'm certainly glad to be busy, but I'm getting a little weary of the endless technical issues. Here's the latest: Every shoot I've done with the cameras since the firmware upgrade last spring have synced just fine. No issues that I've ever been called on. When possible, I send at least one camera a reference audio feed, but I don't go to extreme lengths to do it. Every single shoot I've used 29.97ND or 23.976 TC. Every online reference just says 29.97. A client is experimenting with pulling actual time of day timecode from the cameras files, something to do with the Magic La…

Hey all, I had another question about the Canter, this may seam like an amateur question but what would be the easiest (and wallet friendly) way to send a signal out to the director, for the moment. I want to send a signal I am hearing out to the director, and I don't have a mixer yet so its just the cantar X2, so what would I need to get besides the high cost lectros, or an easy temp set up that will work for now?

I've outgrown my powerstation and and cant justify a meon or powermax right now. I also dont have the time or skill to craft anything so elegant as Phil(beautiful distro box from another thread). Peter at Gotham recommended i take a look at the Super Powergate http://www.westmountainradio.com/SuperPWRgate.htm It provides power from either a power supply or battery(switches to battery if there is a kickout) or can be set up to float a battery. It also has a staged battery charging system built in The other item i found on their site are their Rigrunner series http://www.westmountainradio.com/RIGrunner.htm It seems these would be great to use for distro. each outle…

CAT-5e cable for portable applications: (pre-chewed but not inhaled: researched but I have only a little reliable field feedback) To distribute SD video and audio for Video assist purposes this paper is much too complicated but CAT5 is good enough. Quality is secondary to convenience and cost. Go to Pac Radio and get what they have on the floor. You do the sales people a favor, they will make their quotas and get their commissions, forget all this research stuff. Anyway read on you geeks: Cat-5 solutions are for analog component video and audio signals through cheaper lighter weight Cat-5 cables were the best quality is not so important. Cat 5 was originally mad…

Hi All! I know it's not usual but I am in a strange situation and searching for a solution. We have a film that has only this sound source, all other original materials got lost during the years... I am searching for a projector sound head or whole projector to digitize this film's sound: That's the best I found about it on the internet: http://www.graumanschinese.org/projection-2.html The whole point of CinemaScope was to give the public that Cinerama feel — without having to make expensive alterations to a theatre. Because of the grain factor, Sponable wanted to use as large a negative as was possible in 35mm, which meant going back to the silent aperture, …

Hi, I have a Coles 4104 that sounds good, but the noise of the preamp is very noticeable when I turn it up to the level needed. Ive tried 3 different preamps with similar results. Its the same noise of a preamp that is heard when turning up the gain without a mic loading it. When I connect the microphone, the noise is the exact same, but combined with the microphones signal. Searching online I don't see any mention of this issue. Could anyone who has used this microphone describe their experience? I've used other, much cheaper, ribbon microphones and never noticed this level of noise. Thanks, Rodrigo

<<Question: I need to setup multiple receiver antennas in four separate studios as well as outdoor antennas for "man in the street" interviews. I want to have eight receivers in a central equipment rack to keep my life simple and I want to combine the remote antennas into as few coaxial cables as possible to save on cable costs and installation. Can I do all this with antenna combiners, splitters and amplifiers?>> We get questions like this about once a month at Lectrosonics. Combining receiving antennas from multiple locations is not trivial. Most of the multiple antenna systems are "saved" by the fact that the distances from talent transmitter to the re…

I'm a recording engineer based in Boston. About a month ago I some tests measuring and comparing the relative sensitivities for various wireless mic heads using a Lectrosonics HHA transmitter, and a variety of compatible capsules(heads). I've attached a write-up of what we learned-some things many of you may be well aware of. It was very interesting to see what capsules were most sensitive. Sensitivity Report.pdf

I saw this on another forum: " uses a ta5 input which is much more robust than the lemo plugs " while the TA type connectors are less costly, more readily available, and usually easier to solder up (due mostly to being a bit larger) I have always found Lemo connectors to be more robust than the TA type. I also prefer the Hirose connectors over the coaxial connectors for power connections, and the Nutricon's over XLR or other types for breakaways... Many products mention their gold flashed connectors as a premium feature, and Lectrosonics is still mulling over what power connectors to use on future products! Lemo pins (gold flashed) make better, more reliable connec…

Hello, I want to do a mod in the direct outs of my CS106, like the one Vark Audio offers. The problem is that I live in Ecuador, South America, and sending the unit to them would be a little difficult. So I contacted a local electronics engineer and he told me that he needs the service manual, because the diagrams in the operators manual that I gave him don't have all the information he needs. Does anyone have the service manual of the CS106 or know where to find it? I sent an e.mail to coopersoundsystems@gmail.com, but they haven't answered yet. Thanks. Juan

I'm fairly new to Zax wireless and a long time user of Lectros. I have a coordinated list for 14 Lectro channels (praying to god we won't need to use that many) and was to add 2 Zaxcom channels in for booms. I have regularly heard that there is "no intermodulation" with Zaxcom Digital Wireless. Does this mean that the transmitters won't emit any harmonics/overtones that could cause intermodulation? Or are they immune to intermod from other transmitters (meaning that I would still have to coordinate them to not screw with the lectros)? I hope I'm asking this question in a way that makes sense.

Does anyone has problems with delay...and I don't mean the FX version. I'm wondering why on the Sound Devices 744T anyone would need to necessarily delay the inputs. Of course there could be the very rare occurrence. But by the time you even notice a delay wreaking havoc on something isn't it too late? I'm assuming delay in the process does occasionally occur...but at what points have you found it to interfere. I can only imagine how long correcting a delay problem onset a run and gun style deal could take..."waiting on sound"

Anyone have a current DEVA V manual or know where I can download one? The only one I can find online was revised in 2004. The link on Zaxcom to the latest manual, which they say was revised on 8/17/2007, is a dead link. Thanks!

Hello, If using a headphone monitor with a XLR pass-through like the Rolls PM55P, does it matter if I am using cables with a different brand, spec? If not, then in which case using different cables can become a problem? Until now I have only used one cable from source to equipment, unless going through mixers or preamps. Thanks.

I have to make some AES cables - and have heard two different recommendations from trusted sources. The first says that one should always use 110 ohm rated cable for AES cables. The other says that it doesn't matter what you use if the length is short (in his words - less than 100 feet). In my case, I need to wire the AES in and out of a Fusion to an external box, that probably wouldn't be longer that 7 feet. I have some 110 ohm cable that is rather small in diameter - but not small enough to fit 4 of them inside the opening of a 9-pin d-sub. I do though - have some analog cable that would fit just fine. So would I be ok with the analog cable or am I asking fo…

Dither Dither is not the most important technical detail to learn about, but if you want to get your digital audio done just right, then you should learn about dither. Especially if you want to learn why your digital reverb has been leaching the ambience out of your music, when it's supposed to be adding ambience. Or why your CDs don't sound as spacious as your 24 bit sources and want to avoid that veiled, dry, and lifeless feeling! Follow that Sample Let's start with a little lesson in DSP (Digital Signal Processors). Many workstation and processor manufacturers ignore the critical issue of wordlength. Let's examine what happens to digital audio when you c…
