I am new in New York and looking for work. After having worked in broadcasting for over 10 years, I find myself wanting to specialize in audio. I worked as a shooter and DP for various production and broadcast organizations but now find my self wanting to go into audio because of the sheer lack of qualified sound people out there. I got tired of seeing poor mic placement, and people that do not know what a mic can and can not do. My rig is still evolving but here it is. I have a PSC M4 (4 channel mixer), brake away cable, 5 wireless mics (Lectrosonics 21 block and Sony), K-tek 8 foot boom, Sennhieser ME66/K6 shotgun with deadcat (Softie W…

Low budget film writer and Producer Daryl Wein was interviewed by Peter Caranicas in Variety yesterday and had a telling quote when asked how he was able to produce a feature film for $15,000. "We had other crew members also working for free," Wein said. "Alex's girlfriend at the time assisted camera … we got two people off Craigslist who worked for the love of film, and our actors all worked for the lowest possible SAG rate of $120 a day." Thesps included legit vets Peter Friedman, Andrea Martin and Julie White. So where did the $15,000 go? "Toward food, and to our sound mixer," Wein said. "It's really tough to get a good sound mixer." Its all true except the truck and dog part. No sense in offering my services as a mixer on a board with a bunch of mixers looking for jobs. However, I am offering my services as utility. I'm in Wilmington NC but willing to travel far and wide to pay the mortgage and feed three kids. (sniff, tear) Lodging is not a problem. I find the KOA comfortable. Available after Tuesday.

Hi everybody, I just wanted to introduce myself, I just moved from Chicago to LA and I've joined the forces trying to make a living getting good recordings in sync with some kind of moving pictures. I moved out here to work on the features that seem to be filming everywhere but here these days, but like everyone else I'm filling in my days with whatever comes my way. Since moving here, I've met a couple other sound mixers but mostly I've been mixing low budget web shows and student films (not all of them are bad, just many of them). This is the only way I pay my rent every month, so when I don't have a gig my schedule is wide open, which is the case from now until th…

A production company I work for is shooting an industrial for three days, March 22/23/24, and ideally would like to hire a local mixer (or someone who can get themselves to and from set each day if you live reasonably close). Please have solid experience in commercials/industrials. Rate should be pretty good. One man, boom and usually 2 wireless, to camera and backup recorder. maybe a couple of Comteks/IFB. I'm just passing on names. The production company can give you more details. Oh, I'm doing the post on this, so please be good! Thanks, -Greg Sextro-

I'm looking for a Sound Utility position. I'm available to work from March 30th till April 6th. I have a lot of experience booming on set, mixing, miking up talent, hiding lavs, and operating & maintaining equipment. I want to gain experience working on a higher level production than I'm capable to finding through the usual avenues (Mandy, etc.). I normally work a day job, but I have these 8 days off and I'd like to put them to use in furthering my production sound skills. I'm located near New York City, but I have a car and I'm willing to travel. For more info on me: www.sam-mallery.com Thanks!

Hey Colorado, I know of a producer that is shooting an exercise video in Denver. I 've worked for them before and they're great guys. The gig entails one wireless mic and 4 earwigs (additional cost to production). They have two cameras that I sent a comtek scratch track to and the production track was on a Deva. I also provided the playback to earwigs. Email me your info and I will pass it along. Thanks, David

Hello all, I'm interested in working or simply helping out and learning from any of you experienced mixer's in the Nor Cal or Bay Area. I currently work out of Sacramento, but would be willing to travel in order to gain experience working under someone, helping out, or simply just watching bigger productions take place. Let me know if anyone has any thoughts, work, or needs an extra helping hand. Best, Palmer
