Hi all! My name is Paul Dorough and I have worked in Location Audio for a few years. After graduating from San Francisco State College at the end of last year, I opened up my own Location Audio business called Sound Art Film and have been working as a freelance Sound Mixer for the past year. Recently business has been slow and I have decided to take it upon myself to reach out to people outside of my network in hopes of finding new employment opportunites and to network with other Sound Mixers in the San Francisco area. I am open to general conversations with other Sound Mixers, including just a friendly "hello" to working alongside one another. More info…

This was even worse than the Craigslist ads, so I thought I'd break it out to another topic. Check this out: POST PRODUCTION SOUND DESIGNER - PAID GIG We are looking for a brilliant LA based sound designer / artist who wants to work on an awesome 20 minute short film to prove his/her ability on the world stage. We need a team player, who recognizes the value of our project and is committed to delivering excellence. If you are just looking for a job to pay the bills, please do not respond to this add. Shot entirely in one interior location in Hawaii, our film tackles highly provocative subject matter, and is guaranteed to get noticed in a very big way. As our Sound…

Hello all, I am an Orlando sound mixer and have been working in Florida since 1995. I have recently upgraded my ENG package to a Zaxcom Nomad 10 package. I have a pretty decent package to accommodate a wide variety of productions. Pretty much trying to network any work so I can pay for all the money I spent on it. I work great with any kind of crew and I have many people in the Orlando market that can vouch for my work experience and work ethic. Would love to work outside of Florida as well, if the stars align right (It's difficult to do jobs outside of Florida when they want to pay as a local. But, how do the other guys do it?). I'm also open to work with another sou…

I'm wondering if anyone in Los Angeles is looking for a Boom Op or P.A. to work with? I'm currently learning the craft through reading and some low budget mixing jobs. However, I would really love to work/learn alongside a professional team. I'm hard worker, I follow direction and I don't complain. (Perhaps Mike Miramontes will vouch for me) I understand that this community isn't necessarily fond of "new guys", but if someone gives me chance, I promise you won't be let down. Thanks for your time. I hope to hear from anyone. =) -Brian Saude

Alright, I think I'm going to try doing this every December going forward. For the month of December, starting on 12/11, I will be available for work. Any income I earn will be donated to St. Judes Children's Hospital. So, if you need a mixer, boom op, etc. then please give me a hollar and make the check payable to St. Judes. My contact info is listed in my profile. I figure this is one way for me to give back. Thanks, Michael

ROOT Sports Northwest & Seahawks All Access are looking to hire local boom operators, with equipment, for Seahawks road dates this season. We are interested in obtaining a quote for your services & equipment rental. The shoot is for a TV show called Seahawks All Access. You would be working with an ENG photographer who will supply you with a Lectrosonics transmitter to provide a "one way" wireless hop from your boom kit to the camera for a single system shoot with our Sony PDW-700 being the recorder. The gig is documenting pregame team activities, bench/sideline sound in game, and post game podium/locker room sound. There is a bit of run and gun hust…

Hey all. I'm sorry if this question doesn't quite belong in this section of the website. I'm wondering, where do you guys look for work? I know the usual suspects like Mandy, CL, etc. but where do you guys find your gigs? Most of my work lands in my lap from referrals or old postings and previous clients but I want to expand my network and I could use a lead or two. Thanks in advance! -TAS

I need help filling a smaller sound gig since I am out of the state. Here are the specs: Location is LA Valley (Sepulveda Dam). Concept is basically: teams of people travel the US in 18 wheeler trucks selling things. Whoever sells the most stuff and makes the most money wins $1m. For the Sizzle reel, we've got 6 trucks - want to shoot them driving around (ramped, dramatic shots) the dam area + ominous hero shots of the contestants standing in front of them. Plus, some simple SOTs (standard boastful things like, "there's no way I'm going to lose / I'm the best salesman on the planet." Plan to have two crews shooting Epic cameras - one handheld & sticks - t…

So, anyone wanting to do this job will have know that real danger is part of the job. With that said, if you're still interested then please PM/email me your contact info, gear list, and resume and I'll forward top candidates to my friend. More about the job: You start in March and go through Thanksgiving. You work 8 weeks on and have 1 week off. All travel expenses paid for. Hi! I usually make myself known on the boards here when I'm cramming for another gig, which does happen from time to time. I'm rather new to this and nonetheless have the utmost curiosity and respect for the craft and standards of professionalism. I just wanted to more deliberately introduce myself, and to mention that I am quite actively prospecting production companies here in NYC. They may in turn forward me to their go-to sound people. If you hear from me or more particularly my assistant, Lane, please show her a warm welcome-she is a lovely person, and nonetheless I appreciate that she may be reaching you out of the blue. By necessity, I fleshed out my resum…

"Shooting a micro-budget horror feature in a couple of months and looking to find a sound mixer with some gear. If you respond to this post without placing DAMN RIGHT in the subject line, I'll know you didn't even bother to read everything. Sorry to sound assholish but people respond without reading and then complain about what's being asked of them. Looking for a sound mixer/boom op with some gear that is compatible with the 5D and 7D by Canon as that's what we're shooting on. If you have lavs, better - that way we don't need the boom. This is a 10-day shoot on location. Lodging is provided. Meals provided. Gas reimbursement if you decide to drive. And the pay is $500 fo…

I'm not sure whether I'm posting this because it is about a corner of our industry, or about government waste and/or interference, or movie permitting process and fees ..?? on union shoots we do have a "medic". Faced with a new law requiring condoms during porn shoots, Los Angeles officials have recommended that Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the City Council begin searching for a medical professional to conduct inspections of adult film performances. In a report issued Wednesday, a working group focused on ways to enforce the new condom ordinance said Film L.A. Inc., the office that processes film permits, should rework its applications so passages that discuss h…

I am willing to do just about any job out there at this point, Lately I have been trying to mix first, boom second, do audio post third, edit fourth and after that I'll AC, grip, PA, whatever. I'd rather do sound but I am trying to cobble together a living and it ain't easy in Missoula, Montana. In the past six months alone I have done lots of free sound on short films/conferences and gotten paid to cut trailers, produce and direct a short, author DVD's, really whatever I can do that people need done. I can travel anywhere on short notice and have an RV I can live in if necessary. I have a 442, a DR-680, a Lectro 411/SMa, a Schoeps CMC641, a Sennheiser 416,…

So lets see if this gig goes over a little better than my first post... One of my corporate clients has a 5D shoot this Monday, 11/21/2011, and I'm already booked. This is a Fortune 500 company with great people to work with, and I'd like to meet someone here to pass the work to when I'm booked. They use Pluraleyes, run a double-system with clap-slate, and generally ask for 2 to 3 wires along with the boom. Only one of their directors asks for confidence monitoring; this Monday's director does not. Location is near LAX, attitude is professional and friendly, and they are my fav clients. $400/10 day rate $100/ kit fee My website has my email…
