Good morning, One of my students at NYFA Universal City has scraped together $300 for some post-sound work on his thesis film "Black and Blue", about a popular, handsome, college Fraternity president who decides to come out as gay. I've seen several rough cuts, and it's quite a good short film. The director is a good student, going to school on his parent's GI Bill, and telling a very real-feeling story in a very heart-felt way completely DEVOID of caricatures. And for that reason alone I'm helping him find someone who may be able to help out at this student rate. I believe the running time may be somewhere around 10 minutes. Please email if you are interested…

I need help filling a smaller sound gig since I am out of the state. Here are the specs: Location is LA Valley (Sepulveda Dam). Concept is basically: teams of people travel the US in 18 wheeler trucks selling things. Whoever sells the most stuff and makes the most money wins $1m. For the Sizzle reel, we've got 6 trucks - want to shoot them driving around (ramped, dramatic shots) the dam area + ominous hero shots of the contestants standing in front of them. Plus, some simple SOTs (standard boastful things like, "there's no way I'm going to lose / I'm the best salesman on the planet." Plan to have two crews shooting Epic cameras - one handheld & sticks - t…

I was curious if anyone knew where to look or who to contact for media jobs for the 2012 London games? I can't seem to find any "contact" information on the IOC's website.

I'm a 34 year old transplant from the music industry where I worked as a session musician and touring drummer. I discovered location sound 5 years ago and I've been working steadily as a non union mixer on low budget features and short films for the last 2 years. A majority of my Mixer jobs included me booming. I didn't have to boom but it was a personal choice. I really enjoy being on set and I have a good personality when it comes to dealing with the other depts. I would use my boom op as a 2nd boom and sound utility which came in very handy on the fast moving lower budget shoots. Now that I'm in the union, I would love to continue booming or doing utility for o…

Hello All, I've been out of the JW loop lately, but I hope to get back to it soon. My boom op had a death in the family and would really like to get out of this if possible. IA shoot under the Videotape Non-Dramatic Agreement. For the Boom Operator, the rate is $42.75 per hour with 12-hour guarantee, so that works out to be $598.50. This job is for tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday. Tomorrow will be rehearsal with stand-ins. Production has rented a 16-foot Fisher boom. It will be mostly one person at a time on a green screen, but long takes with a lot of different talent. They will move very fast through a lot of talent. I (and the boom op) ar…

OK. While I'm writing that I'm still in shock. A producer calls me. Looking for someone with full equipment and 8 lavs. 20 days of shoot at Connecticut. $150 a day! Well I'm not shocked with the rate, neither with the 8 minimum lavaliers requirement for that price. I'm used to insane producers like many of us! He tells me there are multiple people that already accepted that rate for these requirements. (Still looking for someone?? so it's suspicious...) Who owns (Can't be rental. All the money will go to that) all that equipment, does intense job like "sound" for those rates and be fine?!

Alright, I think I'm going to try doing this every December going forward. For the month of December, starting on 12/11, I will be available for work. Any income I earn will be donated to St. Judes Children's Hospital. So, if you need a mixer, boom op, etc. then please give me a hollar and make the check payable to St. Judes. My contact info is listed in my profile. I figure this is one way for me to give back. Thanks, Michael
