Insight into Steve Jobs' Product-Centric Approach 1985 Interview in Newsweek Magazine Sunday January 23, 2011 01:08 AM EST Written by Arnold Kim for Mac Rumors Early last week, Steve Jobs announced that he was once again taking a medical leave of absence from Apple. The news has been met with understandable concern about his future at the company, and resulted in many a "look back" at Apple over the years. One particularly insightful article is this Newsweek article interviewing Steve Jobs back in 1985 shortly after his ousting from Apple. It's interesting to see how his views and attitudes about product design hasn't changed much in 25 years. Steve Jobs co-found…

Apple has more than $76 billion in cash and marketable securities on its balance sheet. That's a lot of scratch. Moolah. Bones. You get my point.

So is it really faster than Mountain Lion? Can we still install apps from sources different from the AppStore? Anybody's got it yet?

Macintosh 128K (1984) As clunky and expensive as it was, the original Mac was the first mass-market personal computer to feature a graphical user interface (GUI) and mouse. Today, we expect any electronic device from TVs to ATMs to come with a graphical user interface. And thanks to the GUI, PCs, laptops, smartphones, and tablets were able to evolve into devices for the everyday consumer. The Mac was the one product that started it all.

I'm surprised I'm the first to mention the split of Apple's stock. I know I'm not the only stockholder. Big fan of splits. CrewC

-from MacRumors site: Today marks the seventh anniversary of the introduction of the iPhone, a presentation that took place as part of the keynote of Macworld Expo 2007 in San Francisco. While the device would not launch until over six months later, that presentation offered the public the first glimpse of what Steve Jobs introduced as three devices in one: a touchscreen iPod, a phone, and an Internet communicator. "Today, we're introducing three revolutionary products. The first one is a widescreen iPod with touch controls. The second is a revolutionary mobile phone. And the third is a breakthrough Internet communications device. So, three things: a widescreen iP…

It's free, works with their wireless timecode receivers (or any LTC timecode source). Looks good as a display for numbers on a cart, scripty, or other non-frame accurate timecode needs (I'm sure the software is solid, but limitation of latency of iPad screen refresh rate? Need to test...). There are some slate applications out there that charge a lot of money for this feature.

Hi, I just got myself a used Ipod touch, mainly for CL-WIFI. I made myself a cable like the iTC-INX, just to find out, that the mic input contact on the Ipods TRRS sleeve is loose. Could I just input a TC signal line level via the dock connector to run Ambient's TC App?

I have a router/modem problem with our iMac which I just can't seem to shake. I will attempt to describe... When I open a page on Safari and do tasks, everything works fine until you stop using the computer for about five minutes. At this point Safari seems to freeze and won't do any tasks. It then tries to reload the page and comes up with a message that 'Safari cannot load page/contact server ect, ect'. If I turn Airport off and then on again, the page reloads and Safari works fine, until you leave it for about five minutes when the whole freezing thing repeats again. It seems as though the iMac goes offline or loses contact with the modem/router and w…

Hello, does anyone using the Ipad for backing up daily files? I will be using an Ipad as remote for the sound devices 688 on a feature, and I am looking for a solution to use the ipad to make my own files back up (from CF or SD card to HDD), to avoid bringing along my laptop computer. I am new to Apple world and just got my IPad. So far I figured it is not possible but decided to post the question just in case ;-) Thanks Fred

I have LION on the main computer now and all is well except for one very odd thing that really threw me. After installing LION, the Library folder that was always in the User's Home folder has moved out. It is now on the boot drive, the main hard drive, not in the Home folder. I am wondering if it has something to do with the way all my computers are set up. I often go into the Library folder, Application Support folder, etc., and now I have to look somewhere else. The Library folder used to be one of the default folders, like Music, Sites, Documents, Public, etc. Anyone else see this?

In a manner befitting the popular tech company, the following invitations were sent out today by Apple for a special event this upcoming September 9th: They are expected to announce their new line of iPhones (a 4.7" and possibly a 5.5" iPhone), as well as their first product in the wearable technology market, popularly referred to by the crowds as the "iWatch". It can now be said, my son David (aka strangeloop) was part of an Apple commercial which has just been aired (so the veil of secrecy that surrounds all Apple commercials is removed). David's visuals for Flying Lotus come at the climactic end of the commercial. Apple Pays Tribute to Sound Innovations in New Ad After Music Service Launch On Monday, Apple debuted its “History of Sound” commercial, a tribute to 127 years of sound innovations (including a nod to Apple’s iPod products), to promote the new Apple Music service. The spot has aired on national TV three times — once each on ABC, NBC and ESPN, according data from to iSpot — and has generated more than 129,000 o…

I am curious if anyone knows what console is being used for this Apple presentation? It's a small picture I realize but maybe somebody can identify it. I am always impressed with the presentation quality of all these Apple Events ... though I do miss Steve Jobs who was the master showman.

Trouble Reading On That Tiny IPhone? Apple Experiments With XL Screens For Tablet, Smartphone Apple may be supersizing its iPad and iPhone, exploring a larger variety of screen sizes to diversify the mobile device market. The Cupertino company said its Asian suppliers are testing a 13-inch iPad and smartphones measuring larger than four inches, according to the Wall Street Journal. With the grande iPad, Apple reverses direction from its most recent iPad invention — the 7.9-inch Mini, which was released in November and touted as the first tablet that could fit easily into a pocket or purse. Even before the tablet hit stores, retailers were selling cases, purses …

There is a major security flaw in the software for Apple phones, the company announced Friday night. If you've logged onto WiFi from a coffee shop, hotel, airport or other public space, you could be at risk. "At this early stage, the vulnerability has been confirmed in iOS versions 6.1.5, 7.0.4, and 7.0.5, and OS X 10.9.0 and 10.9.1, meaning it has silently exposed the sensitive communications of millions of people for weeks or months," reported Arts Technica. For the time being, Mac users should not log in through insecure or public networks. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/apple-iphone-and-mac-users-need-to-update-security-asap/ The recently-announced flaw in…
