I have a router/modem problem with our iMac which I just can't seem to shake. I will attempt to describe... When I open a page on Safari and do tasks, everything works fine until you stop using the computer for about five minutes. At this point Safari seems to freeze and won't do any tasks. It then tries to reload the page and comes up with a message that 'Safari cannot load page/contact server ect, ect'. If I turn Airport off and then on again, the page reloads and Safari works fine, until you leave it for about five minutes when the whole freezing thing repeats again. It seems as though the iMac goes offline or loses contact with the modem/router and w…

Apple has more than $76 billion in cash and marketable securities on its balance sheet. That's a lot of scratch. Moolah. Bones. You get my point.

They released the first update to Final Cut X . Added a few features to makeup for all the ones they left out. However it still sounds like you have to jump through some hoops to transfer a project from FCP 7 to FCP X. Here's a link to a story. http://news.cnet.com/8301-27076_3-20108584-248/final-cut-pro-x-gets-first-big-update-and-a-free-trial/ Anyone downloaded the update and tested it yet?

Apple has put the previous version of its Final Cut Studio video editing suite back on sale after a mixed reception to the new and completely redesigned Final Cut X. Word has it that Apple had issued a memo this afternoon announcing re-availability of the product. It has been confirmed with an Apple telesales representative at 800-MY-APPLE that Final Cut Studio, part number MB642Z/A, is again available for $999 (and $899 for educational customers). The product is only available through the 800-number and is not available in Apple Retail Stores or on the Apple Online Store.

From Reuters... Steve Jobs resigns as CEO, named chairman SAN FRANCISCO | Wed Aug 24, 2011 6:43pm EDT (Reuters) - Silicon Valley legend Steve Jobs on Wednesday resigned as chief executive of Apple Inc in a stunning move at the technology giant he co-founded in a garage. The 55-year-old Apple co-founder and pancreatic cancer survivor has been on medical leave for an undisclosed condition since January 17. Apple said Steve Jobs has been elected chairman and Tim Cook has been elected CEO. http://www.reuters.c...E77N82K20110824 http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2011/08/24/jobs-resigns-as-apple-ceo-to-stay-as-chairman/ --------------------------…

The Wall Street Journal reports that Sprint will offer the iPhone 5 when it launches later this year, becoming the third U.S. carrier to offer the iPhone. According to the report, the iPhone 5 will launch simultaneously on Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T in "mid-October". Sprint Nextel Corp. will begin selling the iPhone 5 in mid-October, people familiar with the matter said, closing a huge hole in the No. 3 U.S. carrier's lineup and giving Apple Inc. another channel for selling its popular phone. The timing, however, indicates Apple's new iPhone will hit the market later than expected and too late to contribute to sales in the company's fiscal fourth quarter, w…

The Santa Monica Dispatch's Peggy Clifford attended yesterday's Santa Monica Planning Commission meeting and reports that Apple's new Third Street Promenade building was quickly approved, without even discussion. "The surprise was that the staff put the project on the Consent Calendar. I cannot remember any large, complex commercial project ever going on the Consent Calendar. Apple was the only item on last night’s Calendar. And, under the rules, the Consent Calendar is approved as a whole – unless someone wishes to pull at item for discussion". And in that crucial blink, the commissioners approved the Consent Calendar (aka Apple Glass House), and that was t…

Fortune's Philip Elmer-DeWitt contacted Walter Isaacson and got some more details on Steve Jobs' biography that is due on November 21st. The above cover is described by Isaacson: "The cover," writes Isaacson in private e-mail, "is the Albert Watson portrait taken for Fortune in 2009. The back is a Norman Seeff portrait of him in the lotus position holding the original Macintosh, which ran in Rolling Stone in January 1984. The title font is Helvetica. It will look as you see it, with no words on the back cover." Isaacson also clarified to Elmer-DeWitt the moving forward of the publication date was not due to any health concerns or decline. The book was mostly com…

More images, site plans and floor plans for Apple's new Cupertino Campus. Full article and .pdf's available HERE "It's a pretty amazing building. It's a little like a spaceship landed. It's got this gorgeous courtyard in the middle... It's a circle. It's curved all the way around. If you build things, this is not the cheapest way to build something. There is not a straight piece of glass in this building. It's all curved. We've used our experience making retail buildings all over the world now, and we know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use. And, we want to make the glass specifically for this building here. We can make it c…

These are strange times. Bloomberg just reported that Apple is now slightly more valuable (at least for its market cap) than Exxon/Mobil, making it -- technically -- the most valuable corporation in the world. Their stock is also at an all-time high, closing in on $400 a share. It wasn't that long ago that they were struggling at 1/10th that, not many years ago. I know pundits could argue, "and if Apple just cut their prices about 15-20%, they'd sell more stuff, have more modest profits, and still be the #2 biggest company in the world." I see good and bad with this, but I'm glad to see somebody's making money in this economy. Full story at this link: …

I finally broke down and got my iPad2. Yes, I'm enjoying it. I am a big believer in getting a sturdy protective case for items like this. However, I'm curious how other users are carrying their iPads around; aside from a carrying bag. I've heard several horror stories of accidental drops and screen cracking. I know it's cool to carry this rather light unit around 'bare naked'. I buy the Otter Box brand. I have one protecting my HTC Evo 4G, Android phone. I've done the same for my iPad2, getting the "Defender Series" case. The cover also doubles as a support stand. You can buy it direct from Otter Box at their full price of $89.95, (over priced) or be…

I have LION on the main computer now and all is well except for one very odd thing that really threw me. After installing LION, the Library folder that was always in the User's Home folder has moved out. It is now on the boot drive, the main hard drive, not in the Home folder. I am wondering if it has something to do with the way all my computers are set up. I often go into the Library folder, Application Support folder, etc., and now I have to look somewhere else. The Library folder used to be one of the default folders, like Music, Sites, Documents, Public, etc. Anyone else see this?

Anybody ever seen this happen when they boot up their laptop? As much as I'd like to go shopping for a new laptop, I should probably see if this is something that can be fixed. Cheers, Jase

It is well known now that the traditional method of scrolling in Lion will be REVERSED from the behavior we have all gotten accustomed to for probably the last 15 or 20 years of computer use. We can spend a lot of time debating the logic or philosophy behind the act of scrolling the contents of a window but it is clear that Apple has made a global decision that changes a lot of this thinking. from Macworld website: According to Apple, "When you scroll or swipe in Lion, content now moves in the same direction as your finger." In other words, drag two fingers downward on a MacBook's trackpad or Apple's Magic Trackpad — or spin your mouse's scroll wheel towards you…

Steve Jobs looks so painfully thin in this photo at WWDC. It looks as if he really is on the way out. Very sad.

I found this application called evernote. It keeps all my computers and iphone updated with any lists or collection of data that i need to have close at hand. I loaded it with all my needed cheat sheets and manuals for all my gear. It keeps a running tally of my current projects and will even organize and integrate pictures into my lists. Whenever i make a change to any of my "notebooks" it automatically syncs to all my devices. It is free and i love it http://www.evernote.com/ john.
