I just watched today's Apple's "mass". Pretty interesting, the new processors are really efficient as expected. And they have even lowered prices a bit. Not surprised, as Intel prices their processors as they want holding a virtual monopoly. Interesting times coming, especially with those so called "neural" units tailored for machine learning calculations.

I know some of you use them on your cart, so maybe you found something. I'm looking for something like a Pelican case for a full sized iPad when I throw it in (soft) luggage for travel. I don't mean an Otterbox, because I want to protect the screen. I have the Apple magic cover thing and a rubber/silicon-like bottom cover. Despite Pelican's site saying their case works with those, all the reviews say otherwise. Sound like I could buy a Pelican and immediately cut up the innards, but if there is a better option, I would love to hear. When I fly I *usually* take it with me on the plane, but often we pile luggage and equipment in the back of a cargo van, and that's wher…

Hey everybody, I´m trying to make a new app for iphone to log the sound reports. I know many of you use sound devices 788 or cantar and they have their on way. But if you are like me, working with smaller recorders (702), on smaller productions, you know there aren´t many options out there. I found the Sound Report app not so helpful when you have small amount of time to be watching your iphone in middle of the shoots and start making notes. I would like to create something where you make as few touchs to the screen as possible. Allowing you to log your report quickly and easy. I like to believe that these small details sometimes can make a lot easier our work. …

Steve Jobs looks so painfully thin in this photo at WWDC. It looks as if he really is on the way out. Very sad.

Prominent British international business newspaper Financial Times today announced that it has selected Apple CEO Steve Jobs as its "Person of the Year" for 2010, marking yet another accolade for the company and its leader that have seen remarkable success over the last decade. A rebuttal of F. Scott Fitzgerald's much-quoted aphorism that there are no second acts in American life does not come more decisively than this. When Steven Paul Jobs first hit the headlines, he was younger even than Mark Zuckerberg is now. Long before it was cool to be a nerd, his formative role in popularising the personal computer, and Apple's initial public offering on Wall Street - which ca…

The Next Web writes of a speech Jobs gave in 1983 at the Center for Design innovation. After that speech, he had a question-and-answer session that covered a wide range of topics, one of which was an incredibly detailed assessment of Jobs' vision for a "computer in a book" that one could learn how to use in 20 minutes. "Apple’s strategy is really simple. What we want to do is we want to put an incredibly great computer in a book that you can carry around with you and learn how to use in 20 minutes. That’s what we want to do and we want to do it this decade," says Jobs. "And we really want to do it with a radio link in it so you don’t have to hook up to anything and …

I was happy to see that there is an exposed anchor... I heard that Steve wanted such a minimalist clean line that the unsightly opening for the anchor would not be acceptable. All kidding aside, this is an amazing design for a yacht but I agree that it looks a little like an Apple Store on water. - article - Project took years, features innovative look An endeavour to design a world-class yacht for his family to use, one of the later projects of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs' life, has finally been completed after years of work and was christened by the Jobs family as "Venus" in a ceremony in Aalsmeer in the Netherlands. Fortune's Philip Elmer-DeWitt contacted Walter Isaacson and got some more details on Steve Jobs' biography that is due on November 21st. The above cover is described by Isaacson: "The cover," writes Isaacson in private e-mail, "is the Albert Watson portrait taken for Fortune in 2009. The back is a Norman Seeff portrait of him in the lotus position holding the original Macintosh, which ran in Rolling Stone in January 1984. The title font is Helvetica. It will look as you see it, with no words on the back cover." Isaacson also clarified to Elmer-DeWitt the moving forward of the publication date was not due to any health concerns or decline. The book was mostly com…

Pure speculation at this point and only one person's prediction --- still quite intriguing Apple Inc. To Buy Tesla For $75 Billion In 18 Months: Calacanis Calacanis’ prediction is based on Apple’s interest in building cars and Tim Cook’s obsession with clean energy Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) rarely makes big-ticket acquisitions. Its biggest ever purchase was the $3 billion deal for Beats Electronics. But angel investor and entrepreneur Jason Calacanis predicts that the Cupertino company would pay a staggering $75 billion to buy Tesla in the next 18 months. Rumors have been doing rounds for more than a year that Apple was interested in buying Tesla. LINK t…

Anyone using the Maps app in iOS6 knows there are serious problems, particularly compared to the previous Google Maps on the iPhone. Here you can read yet another article that sheds some more light on this issue. Apple's Split with Google Over iOS Maps Driven by Turn-by-Turn Navigation Dispute Wednesday September 26, 2012 12:27 pm PDT by Eric Slivka Reports about the high-profile split between Apple and Google that saw Apple replace its Google-powered Maps app for iOS with its own solution have continued to trickle out, with AllThingsD now reporting that the lack of turn-by-turn directions on Google's Maps app for iOS was the key motivator for Apple. …

More images, site plans and floor plans for Apple's new Cupertino Campus. Full article and .pdf's available HERE "It's a pretty amazing building. It's a little like a spaceship landed. It's got this gorgeous courtyard in the middle... It's a circle. It's curved all the way around. If you build things, this is not the cheapest way to build something. There is not a straight piece of glass in this building. It's all curved. We've used our experience making retail buildings all over the world now, and we know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use. And, we want to make the glass specifically for this building here. We can make it c…

Quicken 2015: Close, But Not Yet Acceptable ------------------------------------------- by Glenn Fleishman: <glenn@glennf.com>, @glennf article link: <http://tidbits.com/e/15049> 25 comments What I wanted out of Quicken 2015 for Mac wasn’t improvement so much as a path forward: I wanted to know that when OS X 10.10 Yosemite shipped, I wouldn’t be waiting for Intuit to issue yet another extension on life for Quicken 2007. I pictured myself setting up (as I had before) a virtual machine running an older version of Mac OS X just to keep Quicken 2007 alive. Horrors. <http://www.quicken.com/mac> I have tried nearly every Qu…

Tested the timecode stability a software timecode generator on an iPod Touch 3G. Downloaded Pocket Sync, a timecoode generator app from France: http://www.polytonic.fr/ Set Pocket Sync to 25fps / 48KHz. Jammed a GPS calibrated Ambient Master Controller to the Pocket Sync signal via the headphone jack. Drift was approx +0.9 frame per hour. Set Pocket Sync to 30fps / 48KHz. Drift was approx +1.2 frame per hour. Set Pocket Sync to 24fps / 44.1KHz. Drift was approx +0.6 frame per minute! Pocket Sync 29.97 shows up as 30fps drop. Perhaps there are math division errors in dividing the sample clock by the timecode rate. C…

My dear friend Tom Holman has been hired by Apple to head up all things AUDIO for the company. You can read one of the articles: HERE Notice as well that this is a link to one of the experimental sites I have been working on to possibly replace this site. The post to the forum on that site demonstrates one of the things I like about it: you can paste a web page directly into the message composition area and it preserves the whole page with links and everything (something not possible with this SMF forum).

How do I transfer audio files to a PC via USB port wire from iphone recorded with FiRe? FiRe is a better (free) recorder than the built in Voice Memo as it has a volume slider. You can also buy a $ 30 STEREO CHEPO MIKE THAT PLUGS CONVENIENTLY INTO THE iphone. Voice memo though has a emailer built in. In order to combat piracy Apple does not allow for iOS device -> computer transfers via the USB cable. Have you tired using Bonjour in Safari? To access your FiRe recordings with Bonjour in Safari: 1 Launch FiRe on your iPhone/iPod and turn on Browser Access. 2 Open Safari on the PC and click the book icon in the upper-left corner of the browser window (it…

Heads up regarding iOS-8 (available Wednesday) and the new iCloud Drive Don’t pull the trigger on upgrading to iCloud Drive just yet Macworld online - Caitlin McGarry If you’re upgrading to iOS 8 on Wednesday, you must resist the urge to upgrade to iCloud Drive if you want to continue to sync your phone to your Mac. Why? Well, iCloud Drive only works with iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. And you all know which OS we’re still waiting on. Until Yosemite drops, upgrading to iCloud Drive will keep you from syncing devices running iOS 8 and devices running OS X Mavericks. Good news: After you install iOS 8, Apple will ask you if you want to upgrade to iCloud Drive. Tap…
