Pen for iPad. Just found this on the app store today. I find myself with no time to type sound reports during a shoot. This looks handy to me for just making quick notes on the fly and later transfer to Sound Reporter. I also like that I can use a big fat red marker to tell someone on set something without making a sound or trying to use hand signals to convey a simple message. To me with the eraser and pen and type tools it works like a Etch a Sketch with pages. Will let you know how it works. Tom Maloney

I have been using a Mac Mini for Boom Recorder on my cart since 2006. I started out with the first generation that finally bit the dust (probably literally) in 2007 and upgraded to the intel version. However it has been plagued with continual "logic board" failures. By the way "Logic Board" failure seems to be the "fits all" repair solution for misbehaving Macs. Just searching this topic will reveal that just about every brand of mac has had "bad" logic board issues for years. But I digress. The intel Mac Mini had it's logic board replaced in November 2008, then May 2009 and most recently in August 2010. In all cases I was not charged for the repair, I did not have…

Apple is planning to open its first Dutch retail store in Amsterdam, a local website claims. Citing several sources, One More Thing says that Apple has leased the ground floor and mezzanine of the Hirsch Building, found at Leidseplein 29. Beautiful building. Read more

Solar Charger For iPhone Swiftly Sucks Up The SunThe very concept of keeping an iPhone fully charged? Laughable. But using the sun as a power source? That's positively preposterous. Apparently crazy is on the menu over at Dexim HQ. Their new solar-powered P-Flip promises to juice an iPhone's talk time up to eight hours. The rigging basically looks like a bulky black and camouflage case. You slide the iPhone in (there's a version for BlackBerry schlepers too) and the panels soak up sunlight and transfer it over to the phone's power-hungry battery. While the P-Flip manual claims a full solar charge takes 10-12 hours, Dexim's website says 15 hours. Whatevah! In our testin…

Thursday September 30, 2010 10:33 AM EST Written by Eric Slivka Hardmac reports that Apple's plans for a thorough overhaul of its Final Cut Studio have "suffered significant setbacks" that will see a release pushed back to 2011 from a rumored goal of a 2010 launch and result in significantly scaled-back changes to the professional-level video production software package. A few months ago we told you that Apple were hoping to release a new version of their Final Cut Studio suite in 2010. It now seems likely that this target has been missed according to one of our sources. The development of this software suite has suffered significant setbacks and it will be necessary …

Well, I finally have an iPad and what Scott and others have been saying for a long time is true --- this site is not compatible with the iPad!! Bummer. When you want to post a message , you can enter text in the topic Subject box but that's it --- no way to get the cursor into the message body and start typing. I tried using the "Next" button on the iPad but that just cycled through the whole text editor etc., and never arrived at body of the message. This is something I really need to look into now that I have an iPad! I will let you know what I find. Note: one of the new sites that I am considering for other purposes, and maybe to replace this site, has its ow…

If you enjoy listening to a good story, and I think you do, give a listen to the latest episode of "This American Life." Its a superb storytelling performance by Mike Daisey as he visits the Apple factory in China. Also as interesting is Mike's voice and nuanced delivery.

I was looking around the You Tube and found one of my favorite old programs. Connections with James Burke. In the below linked episode he outlines a personal assistant on his MAC laptop while in India and it bears an uncanny resemblance to Siri or Google Plus. This show was produced in 1997 almost a decade before the iPhone was announced. So let's hope Apple didn't notice this video when they were filing patent applications for Siri. The pertinent part starts about 2 minutes in. And if you haven't seen the rest of the series it is a fascinating look at the various connections between historical events and scientific discovery. It had 3 series all of them amazi…

I am curious if anyone knows what console is being used for this Apple presentation? It's a small picture I realize but maybe somebody can identify it. I am always impressed with the presentation quality of all these Apple Events ... though I do miss Steve Jobs who was the master showman.

Cult of Mac recently conducted an interview with former Apple CEO John Sculley, who headed up the computer maker from 1983 until 1993 and on whose watch Steve Jobs was ousted from the company he founded. The interview offers an interesting glimpse into Jobs' perspective on Apple and how his principles of aesthetic design, minimalism, and perfectionism have influenced Apple over its entire existence. Sculley emphasizes Jobs' view of the customer experience, incorporating that perspective into every aspect of product design. But even from their earliest days, Jobs and Apple shied away from focus groups, with Jobs arguing that it was impossible to gain feedback on revolut…

Hi, I just got myself a used Ipod touch, mainly for CL-WIFI. I made myself a cable like the iTC-INX, just to find out, that the mic input contact on the Ipods TRRS sleeve is loose. Could I just input a TC signal line level via the dock connector to run Ambient's TC App?

More images, site plans and floor plans for Apple's new Cupertino Campus. Full article and .pdf's available HERE "It's a pretty amazing building. It's a little like a spaceship landed. It's got this gorgeous courtyard in the middle... It's a circle. It's curved all the way around. If you build things, this is not the cheapest way to build something. There is not a straight piece of glass in this building. It's all curved. We've used our experience making retail buildings all over the world now, and we know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use. And, we want to make the glass specifically for this building here. We can make it c…
