Hey guys, When we ordered the sanken cos 11 for Lectrosonics, something went wrong, and they came with XLR connectors. So we had to wire them ourselves to the TA5F connector. On sanken.com there are two diagrams, one includes a 1K resistor in the circuit (normal version), and the other does not (red mark version) . We used the method without the 1K resistor (red mark version). The process was very delicate but it worked just fine. The problem is that i'm feeling that there's too much gain, even when the gain level on the transmitter is just somewhere between the first and the second dash. The normal speaking level is good but it gets risky on sudden shouts (not s…

Greetings JWS, I finally get a new one. I've usually seen this one used on benches for soldering, electronics and related. I like it, especially the magnifier, but what do you use? Is there anything better, newer, or updated?..or perhaps a DIY/Mod that you like? I know this is one place I might find a really unique answer. Thanks for any input.

The first thing I ever used to carry audio gear was a small tool bag. Recently I needed something bigger and decided to follow the trend. I then got together with my father on a way to add a boom pole holder to it and viola. The bag was bought in Homedepot and the extra material where bought at Lowes. It aint perfect but it works.

Hi Fella's! Any idea who the retailers in the States are for the Meisei Hotweezers? There's a company in UK selling them (http://www.series4.co.uk/prodeqpt/section01/ds5.htm). I'm very keen to get my hands on this fantastic tool as I've been having a love hate relationship with trying to strip tiny mic cables without destroying the contact wire. There are some power supplies (M-10) available on E-Bay for $99 but I can't seem to find the actual tool (size 4A) so would have to buy a new unit methinks! Many thanks, Sebastian

I programmed a microcontroller to listen the the switch that was previously going to the serial port on nomad, now taken up by RX-12. It emulates the keyboard commands for roll and stop and works like business as usual using the USB port.

My latest invention is a pelican foam with handles that holds gear. I open it in the morning and place it on the cart. When I am done I grab the whole thing and put it back in the pelican. There are a lot of ideas that can accomplish similar workflow for all kinds of cart gear. Stay tuned.

To me, this does not look like anything nefarious, but obviously I have a different mindset than security people. Even if I can't fly with it, it was worth making for driving jobs. I found clear PVC pipe on eBay. 2" x 36" for about $30. Enough for three microphones. The black rubber end caps were $3/each at Lowe's hardware. I use the 2 inch because I wanted to protect the foam. Those have a habit of getting destroyed in a Pelican, and offers shock mounting in the tube.

I slightly modified my Orca OR-37 waist harness and I thought it might help others looking for a similar harness setup. My apologies if this has been discussed already. I realize too waist harnesses in general are not for everyone. recently bought a OR-30 and waist harness combo. Transferred all my gear, and I felt it did ok around the house but did not perform as well on the first day of a real job. quickly I learned the design of the harness points were working against me. However I love the upper body freedom when booming and it seemed comfortable to me resting on my hips vs pulling on my shoulders and back. I wanted to find a way to make it work rather than going back…

Sennheiser G3 IFB / Cell Phone Case Mod / Sennheiser EK300 IEM I have been experimenting with modifying a Blackberry cell phone swivel holster case (HDW-23466-01 or 24208-001). The basic steps are: 1. Remove edge stitching enough to remove both magnets. 2. Make a template (punching/cutting guide) for the display window. 3. Punch or cut holes for headphone connection and window for the Sennheiser G2/G3 display window. 4. Stitch edges around the headphone cable hole. 5. Sew Velcro to the strap and holster face so strap will close without the magnets. 6. Stitch around the new window (you will need a curved needle). 7. Re-stitch around t…

Zuca Bags aren't anything new, and this is nowhere near as extensive as or Zuca cart builds but I figured I would share anyway. The idea was to make a minimalist bag cart that could fold up and be easily put into the trunk of a sedan (nyc taxi). I decided to go with a Zuca bag mostly because I already had one. Similarly I decided to use 1515 profiles from 8020 because I had some left over from another project. So, here it is: The top shelf folds down over the Zuca for easy transport: The hinges are from 8020 and I used a long T-nut on each side as locks to prevent the shelf from accidentally falling when there's weight on it: Here's an a…

A couple weeks ago I was curious about DIY bag dividers that I've seen floating around and wanted to attempt something similar. I am in the process of gathering several wireless units and needed to find a way to carry them elegantly in the bag before pulling that trigger. At the same time, I did not want to alter the original bag. I came up with a few designs starting with ABS and thermo-forming, but that caused problems. The glue and welds didn't hold up very well, nor did cement. Also the ABS was just too slick and would slide out anytime I needed to remove a wireless unit. I took a closer look at the bag and this is what I've come up with: Before: After: …

This is a photo diary of the birth of my new sound cart. It is based on wooden 8U 19" cases (bought from Thomann) and will have the option of adding more modules. It breaks into single modules for transport in a car. The base will, apart from having wheels, hold things like comtek RX, small playback speakers, spare headphones, and similar stuff you typically need handy only during set-up. It will also contain small mic stands, LPDAs, and a spare Rycote basket. The main module will hold two drawers with TX, lavs, lav accessories, mics, suspensions, TX batteries and so on, and have 4 units of open space to house RX racks, script, comtek TX, headphones, and similar stu…

I'm looking to replicate the RA 3.5mm found on the Senny HD 25 1-II cans. Although I would need a non-moulded variety. This is to replace the moulded straight jack which the HD26s came with. It still needs to have locking threads on the outside, so that my 1/4" adapter will be interchangeable between all my cans. It needs to be right angled for space and because the cans will live on the left side of the Nomad bag and plug in to the right side of the Nomad. Anyone know a part number or likely source?

One of my bags (mystery brand!) has window/flap that has gone fairly milky...received it this way and doesn't seem to clean up..probably damaged by a cleanser? Not a big deal really, but kind O' crappy cosmetically. I tried a few searches here but didn't come up with anything. Any thoughts on where to source suitable material to replace? Thanks

I get insomnia sometimes... most people take Nyquil or a shot of whiskey or something. I tend to take things apart. Here is a shot of the front housing. A top mounted mode selector with 5pin (CN701), loudspeaker wired to daughterboard with 4pin (CN703), mic gain potentiometer on 3pin (CN601), and what looks to be a ground reference using the H2n's front grill screen.

hello I introduce myself, I am Mirko, I'm an Italian production sound mix. I ask you a question, perhaps a heresy, has anyone ever thought of making a control surface for Zaxcom Fusion. My idea is to have 8 friends trim and 8 meters (only three LEDs are enough). A controller like a mix 8 without fader which is small enough to fit easily in the sound bag. Thanks. (forgive my english)

I'm making a DB15 to xlr cable for my Nomad AES in/out and having never dealt with AES pairs I want to be sure I'm doing it right. Here is the pin out: 1 RX34+ 2 RX12+ 3 RX56+ 4 RX78+ 5 RX56+ 6 TX12- 7 TX12+ 8 Ground 9 TX34- 10 TX34+ 11 RX12- 12 RX34- 13 TX56- 14 RX78- 15 RX56- There is receive (RX) and transmit (TX) plus and minus for each unique number. So how do they correspond to the pins of the xlr? Thanks, Bernie

We have a lot of SRb units and they don't always ALL make it back to the mothership unless they have to. They always update the firmware when it goes back, but most of ours are still living on 1.2 or 1.3 and they've obviously changed a few things since then. We ended up getting a LectroLink adapter to do the updates ourselves and wanted to share our experience. Lectro has a couple guides, but you have to e-mail them and ask for them, as of 2.26.15 anyways. Anywho, see the link below if you're interested. http://blog.texassoundguy.com/2015/02/diy-lectrosonics-srb-firmware-update.html
