Hey gang, When it comes to umbilicals and breakaway snakes, hirose and tajimi standards have conveniently been easy to source thanks to SQN and Sound Devices integrating these connections into their mixer recorders. XLR7 connectors are sourcable, durable and easy to connect/disconnect with one hand, but from what I can tell there is less of an established standard wiring scheme for these. Are you all up for a "roll call" of sorts? I instinctively wire them like this: 1 Ground 2 L+ 3 L - 4 R + 5 R - 6 return L 7 return R However some people wire them with the ground as pin 7, and then L/R return connections from 1 through 6. I love that ^ from a manufac…

I want to build my own Breakaway cable and have been totally inspired by the cable Engin Kaplan built: The only difference is that I am not going to build mine with TC as I am worried about noise down the line. I am also going to use Remote Audio CA3PS26 cable instead of Mogami. My questions are as follows: 1. Do the Remote Audio extension cables use the same connector on both ends so that it doesn't matter which end you grab? If so, are they male or female? (I am going to use the Neutricon 8 pin) 2. What size tech flex do I need to tech flex each inner 3 pair? 3. I seem to notice that most breakouts are about 1.5', even at the bag end. Does …

Hello, I want to make an extension cable for my SPS 200 mic and was wondering if anyone knew the reference number for this connector. It looks like a regular 10 pin hirose connector but instead of being push/pull, it has a locking thread. I'm having a hard time finding it on the hirose website and contacted TSL (soundfield) a few days ago, but haven't received a reply. Thanks, Pablo

Not sure whether this is the right place to post this, but I'm looking for something that can be easily installed in a rack to keep the drawer of my mixer from sliding out during travel or while rolling on location. Airliner flightcarts have a very elegant solution (and, I bet, pricy) to keep them from rolling away from their nooks. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Chindha had somethig similar, but I just haven't been able to find any online, and don't even know what they're called… I would be extremely grateful for any suggestions or pointers you may have, even if it's not strictly that kind of latch. I'm open to any suggestion that will resolve this particular issue. …

I need to make a cable to send time code and audio from a TIG to a Blackmagic camera. So the BMC has two 1/4 inputs which are balanced. I want to send the TC to one channel and audio to the other channel. I'll be splitting these from the 1/8 connector. How would I wire this? Thanks, Bob

Hi, Thgis is my first post. I built a power distro with remote on/off &volt meter. I will post construction details in next post. It has individual fusing for each output and reverse voltage protection as well. It cost about $80 to build which includes all the device feed cables. You can see other DIY projects on my site:http://ecstaticfilms.com/diy/diy.php

Digital mixers have (potentially) higher fidelity, are smaller, cheaper (absolutely and also relative to functionality), lighter, use less power, can be software configurable, especially when matched with something like an iPad... why do I still love analog mixers? There's nothing as dependable as working with a traditional mixer. Even when they fail, it's usually something you can work out, like a sore muscle... a little scratch on a pot, exercise it a bit, little bit of Deoxit, through time, you even get to know your mixer's weaknesses and make a point to do a little stretching / exercise routing before putting it to serious work, just like your own human body. …

So long story short, I purchased a really cool little mixer last year, a Studer / Revox 6 channel jobbie that is supposed to have super sweet preamps and all types of direct outputs, slate ability, etc... For some reason that is beyond the scope of this conversation, it is stuck on the mainland and not sure that it will ever get to me. The purpose of this mixer was to handle cart based work, like if I ever did a feature. Needless to say, I'm starting my very first feature in less than a month. So being the broke sound mixer I am, I looked around to see what I could do with little $. I found the Behringer 1002B and the Peavy RQ200 (which is apparently the design that …

Hello, has anyone here tried to put their own coiled cable into a rycote boompole without one? The construction seems almost the same. I only need the cable and cut the hole in the bottom. Also - any tips on sourcing coiled cable? Thanks, Jonas

I have 2 Peter Engh OmniGoose Servo Bias wired mics that I would like to have extender cables for. The guy I'm getting to make said cables tells me there are 3 types of Servo wiring and needs to know which is used in these mics. I've contacted Peter through the email listed on his website twice and with time quickly becoming an issue (need these for Tuesday) I'm reaching out to this community to see if anyone knows the answer as to the way these are wired? I believe the TA5 connector is sealed so opening it up is not an option. Thanks in advance!

Just wanted to share my new cart I constructed for my current show, and accompanying follow cart. I posted a few weeks back about converting a welding cart into a follow cart. I decided to try it since the price was right and I was pressed for time to get a new follow cart before the show started. It's working pretty well so far! I replaced the stock casters with larger 14" pneumatic tires in the rear and pneumatic casters in the front. I've got the drawers all divided up, two additional Chinhda hooks on the sides, and two boom holders on the back (room for a third when I have time to put it on). All my wires live in the bag that's on top of the follow cart so we can …

I was missing a few "connector ring nuts" from my g2 and G3 sets, wanted to get replacements as I was self refurbing the units I have. Found the official part #600357 at full compass for $3.50 each http://www.fullcompass.com/product/438166.html Searched for a cheaper supplier and came across "Round knurled nut for M6 sized hardware and audio jacks/adapters" on JAMECO $0.19 each, 10+ qty. part number 2183226 http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10001_10001_2183226_-1 Ordered a bunch, figured it'd be a cheap mistake if it didn't work out. Took about a week to get to me, but I'm happy to report they fit perfectly.

Just purchased a quite used UCR190 that seems to work fine but XLR pin assembly is loose, partially exits when removing XLR...doesn't seem like it can come completely out...seems to perhaps have more play going inside housing. Cable connection seems good while XLR is locked into place...not intermittent or unstable. Is there a simple screw inside that holds XLR assembly in place? I would just assume fix it myself if possible..but seller says opening unit makes it harder to sell, and he wont honor return if I do that. Typical minimum bench rate of service center/shipping would somewhat negate the sense of the purchase. Any thoughts on board or PM much appreciated.

I found a variation on a "lavalier mic quieting sleeve" at an art supply store recently. It is smaller than the commercial brand, which is sometimes desired . It is a replacable foam cover for a painting tool with a lengthwise hole through it - just the right size for a COS11. I just snipped off one end and there you are with a nice smaller sized foam sleeve. I paid $2.09 for a package of 10! http://www.sofftart.com/products.html

somewhere on jwsoundgroup i saw someone post a photo of upgraded wheels that looked similar to the mounting style of the ones on my 1560 - only they were better quality inline skate style and required added bumpers to level out, etc. cant seem to find it. i dont quite need the all terrain style of the 2750 wheels in the other discussion thread but somewhere in between those and what i have now would be nice. checked google ebay case suppliers etc but no luck so far. Went on a tech survey the week before shooting started and found out the director really wanted to shoot in front of this fountain. Especially loud because the water lands on cement, not just into a pool of water. Production told me they completely understood the challenge that would pose for me, so they fully expected to have to ADR the scene. But, I love a challenge. So I did a little research and slapped these together on the weekend in my garage. The center is the foam from an old mattress and the black stuff wrapped around it is some water filter material used in the backyard pond industry. I looked at air filter material but I could only find …

I repaired a power cable with a busted 4 pin XLR cable for a friend of mine. It was made from Canare L-4E5C. Both blues to pin 1 and both whites to pin 4. all shielding stripped back at the connector. First time I've ever seen Canare cable like that used for power applications but I've never paid much attention to power connections. Is L-4E5C cable commonly used and/or suitable for DC power cabling? All DC Cables I have repaired were single cable 2 conductor red/white no shield cables. Curious to know if thinner cables like redco TGS-1 or Mogami W2697 can be used for lightweight DC connection applications? Ken
