I have a couple of little projects in mind to round out my bag, basically some folded aluminum in various shapes to keep the bag rigid in a couple of areas: 1) An "L" shaped piece that would attach to my 664, and surround the void that is created underneath the CL6, allowing me to store an NP1 or two underneath. 2) A "Poor-Man's" Otopack: basically just a box to mount my Lectro SR's to, without the weight, power and antenna distro of the original. These seem like they'd be simple enough to do, but I don't really know the first place to look to have that kind of work done. Does anyone know of a place (preferably in NYC) where I could get some help with this …

(Possibly) idiot question, which I can't seem to find the answer to: Are rotary faders linear, in order to go to zero- or logarithmic?

I checked around on the forum first to see if this was posted already, but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone have the correct wiring for a Line to Mic built in padded cable--TA5f to XLRF? I use it for taking a feed from the mixer when I'm working a behind the scenes gig, and mine went to shit on a gig recently. I built the cable originally 15 years ago, using resistors from Radio Shack and an odd wiring scheme and I can't for the life of me remember how I did it, also I can't really decipher it. It worked like a champ for all that time...and then it didn't. Anyway, I have a workaround in the meantime, but I'd like to rebuild it if someone can remind me…

I'm using this organizer box from Home Depot. Holds all the transmitters and lav accessories. Currently holding 12 SMVQ's and 2 SMa's, but the trays are deep enough to double or even triple up. http://www.homedepot.com/buy/husky-22-in-cantilever-plastic-organizer-with-metal-latches-17185073.html The bottom shelf holds 12 individual plastic trays. Just cut away a side on each tray so the transmitters can lay across.

I'm planning on building a kind of "gating" box that will work with a timecode transmitter, for use when camera is running master TC and transmitting back to my 552 via a wireless link. I missed a cue on a shoot last week and forgot to roll on a take while using a hop. It got me started thinking about a way to have auto roll working on my 552 while the camera is running TOD TC. The DTAP output on many Sony camcorders has a function where it only outputs power when the camera is rolling, for use with top lights. My idea was to hook up a relay to this socket and have it switch the TC feed to my transmitter on and off. That way my 552 will only roll when it sees moving t…

I'm cleaning an Audio Developments 062, and wanted to remove and clean under the knobs. I have a screwdriver that I notched with a grinder that works perfect for removing the nut at the top. With the nut loose, the knob is still tight. Anyone know the procedure? I'm sure they are the same knobs as the 145's and maybe some later models. Rakesh Figured it out!

I was wondering if anyone knew where you could buy the coiled cable that you find on some XLRs. I wanted to make a few cables with it.

Anyone got any tips on books on anaolgue electronics? I'm finding a few areas where I could do with a bit more knowledge (mainly summing networks and power supplies) and although the internet can give me circuits, it doesn't explain why component values are chosen, so I don't really feel comfortable adapting them.

My 16-month old son is absolutely infatuated with buttons. Not so much buttons on his toys, just buttons on my toys (tv remote, stereo, etc.). I swore I would build him some kind of busy box with real buttons to keep him occupied. I couldn't find anything like that for sale until I came across this kit on jameco.com. It's a complete kit of pretty much exactly what I was thinking about, but you have to do everything yourself. I believe it's more of an educational experiment for circuitry (of which I know nothing about). I was a bit overwhelmed when it first arrived and I had all the parts spread out. Most of my cable repairs are passable, but this was a challenge. It's rat…

Hi all. I have seen in the manual for Lectrosonics SMDB that some mics can pick up RF from the TX being close to the mic. I am currently using the TXs on my booms utilising the Ambient UMPii power supplys. I can hear what can only be described as a strange "bubbling" noise during low level dialogue and inbetween speeches, although post production have not said anything as yet it is enough that i know it is there and need to find a cure. I am wondering if it is RF i am hearing through the mic so i have decided to try the capacitor tick as seen in the manual. Problem is i cant really understand the diagram. Can anyone tell me in lamens terms which legs to which pins…

Just completed this with the wonderful help of Mr. Eric Toline. I would have had a very difficult time with this as I continue to learn soldering techniques but he made it very easy. I continue to find a plethora of knowledge here and I am still amazed at how helpful and generous many of the experienced mixers have been. Thanks Eric!

I am going to be building a TA3 to XLR male, TA3 female splitter cable to come out of my Lectro SR and distribute to 744 and SD 302. Questions Has anyone done this, and did you choose to transformer isolate one side? This will be set to full line level from the SR. I need a recommendation for the actual raw wire I'll be using ( brand, type, diameter, where to purchase on line) want to use the best possible stuff. It will need to be thin enough for two wires to exit a TA3 connector with the rubber sleeve removed.

I need to make a 5-pin to 5-pin Lemo TC out cable between an Ambient TRX and an Alexa. I have a connector diagram from my 744t manual which i will be using with the Ambient TRX boxes. The manual connector diagram is as follows: Pin 1- ground 2- SMPTE TC in 3- ASCII in/out 4- Tuning out 5- SMPTE TC out Questions: 1) What cable- I have immediate access to all types of Canare cable where I am located so preferably a recommendation from this brand would be ideal. 2) Pin config- If it is a TC out cable, am I correct in assuming that I only need to connect Pin 5, and pin 1? Thanks in advance!

Does anyone happen to have a picture of the inside of the deva how the slate mic is connected to the Deva? Thinking of doing some mod to my fusion so that i can have a talkback mic connected to the fusion and not waste any track count... Thanks...

Hey folks, I am attempting to wire my own TA3F to XLRM cable and I am having problems with the TA3 end. I am using Audio-Technica cable, and it is too just thick to fit through the boot (even with the rubber part removed). I used plenty of elbow grease, but I could not get it through. When I compared the AT cable to the ones manufactured by Sound Devices, I definitely saw a noticeable difference in thickness. Apparently, SD uses a cable called Gepco International. I've never heard of it. I was wondering if I could trouble y'all for your recommendations for a thinner cable that works well with TA3 connectors. Specifically, I'm looking for model numbers. I know Ca…

Has anyone ever removed a capsule from a Beyer M58? I've just had one through from Ebay and noticed a slight rattle in the head. Sounds like something is very slightly lose just below the capsule. I'm worried about removing the capsule though as I have form in destroying things that I'm trying to repair. Looks pretty simple though, the capsule looks to be held in position by a rubber shockmount diaphragm. I think it probably just pulls out but I don't want to force it and break something while I still have the chance of sending it back. Any suggestions?

Here's a couple of pics of this "Ipod Nagra". It's a work in progress. Was hoping to sell it for holidays this year, but I keep adding things. It actually sounds pretty good, those are Tivoli Audio speakers in the deck, sealed speaker enclosures and a class T amplifier inside. The mic input works, tone generator, tape transport, playback head, and has bass, treble controls, RCA stereo ins and outs. Runs on D cells or external power supply. All the selector positions have a specific function. Pilot flag indicates that ipod is charging. Last hurdle is to create some record capability with the tape loop, to create a short message or slapback echo gag. I've got to find or c…

So I decided to make a dual XLR to mini cable for those pesky DSLR shoots. I would normally just slap an ERX or G3 on there but sometimes they want stereo on the camera. Anyway, good soldering practice none the less. The Canare coax BARELY squeezed through the barrel of the mini jack.

I've had some flexible LED strip hanging around for a while and decided to try out an idea that had been knocking around for a while. I bought 1 metre of transparent acrylic tube, broke out the heat-gun and the soldering iron and made a couple of these little 12 volt light-sticks. Total cost, about $10 a stick, time to make, about 30 minutes. A bit of adhesive BlackWrap and some adhesive Velcro and I've got an adaptable light-source for working at night or in dark corners. I'll drill the flat sections of the tube and add snap hooks for extra hanging points. Regards, John

I couldnt find what i needed for sale so decided to make my own. I wanted to be easily able to turn things in my bag on and off, especially off when i wasnt using them and have an led indicators for reference. The first three switches operate pairs of Hirose sockets, the last two switches operate single hirose sockets. Each switches output runs through a self resetting fuse first, if i have a short and a fuse blows, i should se straight away as the LED will go out. It works really well and im very happy with it. It is a bit big but i needed the width and depth to fit in the switches and sockets. Actuually, when you solder in there you wouldnt want it much smalle…
