I finally had a chance to whip up a couple prototypes! One is a low profile female XLR-3 and the other is a low-profile XLR-5 (for a Zaxcom Stereo Receiver) The XLR-3 just needs some type of "cap" to protect it from the elements. The XLR-5, I used Sugru and really cocked-up the finish. I need to find or make a proper cap, maybe from a plastic end cap of some type.

Some of you are familiar with my obsessive pursuit of smaller and liter setup. I finally came up with a goal: Lite and Compact 6 wireless/RF Distro/Recorder/battery 6 pounds Fits in the smaller Hotel/Motel safes. OneUnit no cables device My first challenge is finding and fabricating a common shell that will be liter but just as strong as the nomad shell. Then I need to find a way to combine everything together but still be able to remove individual units for replacement. To Be Continued...

Hi all I use a G2 for agency/directors headphones. It works well but sometimes is a bit limited on range. I know i could buy a half rack sennheiser unit that has bnc connectors for external antenna, but i was wondering if i could instal a sm or bnc plug into a bodypack transmitter to attach an external antenna. Has anybody do it? What would the wiring be like? Any help would be appreciated. Diego

Hey Guys, Decided that I want to start making my own cables/adapters to custom fit my needs. I was just wondering does anyone know a site or place in the L.A. area where I can buy XLR cable in bulk? As well as a connectors? Also, are there differences in the quality of the cable when buying in bulk or is it all the same or in the connectors. Obviously I'm sure it's MAINLY in how you solder it and such. But I just want to make sure if there are differences in manufacturer's before I buy. If anyone has any links or info at all, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

So, I'm thinking of building a bag cart based on a hand truck. Pretty simple, just a hand truck with a shelf attached and a case of some kind on the bottom for spare cables, adapters and back up gear maybe. Most likely, I'd just use a decent sized plastic tool box attached with bungee cords. Also, a boom holder and cable and headphone hooks. I've been thinking about using a hand truck with a fiberglass/nylon frame, mainly because I don't have any drill bits for drilling through steel. Here's the hand truck I'm looking at... http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100095316/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=hand+truck&storeId=10051#.UJ7Z_6…

So, I figured it was time to build my own custom sound cart. After doing a bit of research on carts I figured I'd go with two SKB's on a steel frame. My goal is to build the cart in such a way that it collapses down enough to fit inside a compact car. I also want it to have all the bells/whistles yet be able to get through interior door frames with ease. Any comments/suggestions/concerns are greatly appreciated. Thanks

I get insomnia sometimes... most people take Nyquil or a shot of whiskey or something. I tend to take things apart. Here is a shot of the front housing. A top mounted mode selector with 5pin (CN701), loudspeaker wired to daughterboard with 4pin (CN703), mic gain potentiometer on 3pin (CN601), and what looks to be a ground reference using the H2n's front grill screen.

I have of course been inspired by Mr. Pascal here. And the boom/antenna holder itself have been discussed before but maybe not in this way. I don't know where the mods will stop but here is the first: Toolflex is the company that makes these products. I cut the aluminum rail and mounted them on the side of the case. There are 4 versions of them. 15-20mm, 20-30mm, 25-35mm and 30-40mm. The good thing is that they can easily slide off, in case of flight or other transports. Skickas från min iPhone via Tapatalk

Hi all, Did a search for "soldering" but didn't find a recommendation for a basic soldering gun/iron kit for a novice repair. I've got an ever growing pile of good cables that I'd love to fix - mainly 1/4 " guitar cords and XLR mic cables. Is there a good soldering kit that you'd recommend? In the meantime, back to the Youtube videos to learn more :-)) Thanks for your kind advice. Keep well, Dave

I am making 2 Y cables for Epic from ERX1tcd. Lemo 4 pin tc goes to the Tip. I want to send the Ring to the Epic 3.5 Left or right audio input at line level. There is a lot of conflicting information and plenty of troublesome reports from the field. Some people say you need the A-BOX from woodencamera.com or the epic will not record sound. What would be the correct wiring for the 3.5 red audio input? And also will the TC bleed in to the audio when they both share ground? Senator's hat not an option since my shoot is early morning on Monday. I insisted on a test run on Sunday which might happen but still would like to have the cables ready. Thanks

So here is my new kortwich bag for my 664 rig. It took a long time ( close to 5 months ) to get it and costed around 900$cdn. But it is well worth it. I have absolutly no back pain at all even after 3 days of shooting 12-16 hours days running. I made a flap in the back ( against the body ) to open and insert a CL6, held in place by velcro. Works like a charm. At the end you can see the bag in cart mode. CL6 SPACE WITH OPENING CART MODE MY ROLLER STAND CART KIT Pascal

I finally finished my antennas, so far they work very well. A huge improvement over whips in the bag. I hit them with a coat of matte black spraypaint, so now they are 'stealth'

Trew audio makes a boom caddy to hold boompoles and occasionally sit on for a hefty price Wanted to see if anyone else has done a DIY boom caddy similar to this and would like to share some pictures perhaps.

Hi, I thought it could be of some interest for some of you : I make my own antennas with straight and right angle connector for a very cheap price and they are at least as efficient as the official ones. So here is a video about it :

Hi all, This is the working prototype for my homemade bloop slate. It has 9 superbright LED's (very bright), a momentary push button that triggers the light AND sends a 400Hz tone to the mini-jack (line level-ish) that you see next to the trigger button. It works well when feeding the Mix-in on my SD302. It all runs on a 9V battery and I believe it draws about 100ma. I hope to add either an LCD display/counter to show take# or just keep it simple and add a layer of white dry erase board and handwrite take#'s. Some other possible tweaks are- trimpots to adjust brightness and frequency and a small amp to drive long audio lines if necessary. Let me know wha…

I'm looking at re-doing my current power system for my cart. I've added too many new toys and i've surpassed the limit of my current setup. I know there are some ready made solutions out there made by trusted brands like PSC or Remote Audio, but this is the do it yourself forum, so I'm going to give it a try. I'm wondering, if those who make there own cart power supplies could recommend a good reliable quiet DC power supply. Medical grade seems to be the buzz word for this kind of thing, although i'm not exactly sure what that means. Hopefully something that can output 150 watts or more. My current system uses a battery charger floating over a SLA. It's worked w…

So long story short, I purchased a really cool little mixer last year, a Studer / Revox 6 channel jobbie that is supposed to have super sweet preamps and all types of direct outputs, slate ability, etc... For some reason that is beyond the scope of this conversation, it is stuck on the mainland and not sure that it will ever get to me. The purpose of this mixer was to handle cart based work, like if I ever did a feature. Needless to say, I'm starting my very first feature in less than a month. So being the broke sound mixer I am, I looked around to see what I could do with little $. I found the Behringer 1002B and the Peavy RQ200 (which is apparently the design that …

Ok, so I've decided to build my first sound cart but since I'm still a newbie I'm not quite sure what the "ideal cart" would have. So, would you guys be so generous as to share your thoughts as to things I should consider in my build? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mike

I have read all the posts. I have built some in the past, but gave them all away when I sold my G2 units. Now a buddy needs me to build him a couple for a job tomorrow... The absolute correct, proper wiring for a transmitter mini plug fed from a FP33 at mic level, balanced! Yea, I know you don't have to have all that info, but what the heck. GRACIAS.. MERRY CHRISTMAS...

I have a Remote Audio TA3-dual XLR I'm chopping up to put a TA5 on. How does one go about wiring these? I have the diagram for the TA5 (Rean RT5FC-B ) but don't know where to assign the hot/commons and ground for each channel. Searched/looked online and couldn't find much. Thanks.

Cantar Mini bag 1 2

For the past few months I have been using my Cantar Mini. I work bag and bag cart, so in my search for a Cantar Mini bag I found only three sources and none of them really did what I needed done in a bag. So I built two versions, the second is shown below in the photos. The first version shall never be seen in public. All of the metal work and sewing I did, so please don't judge me!! The Mini is not like any other recorder/mixer shape. So my design incorporates a frame much like the Aaton cheese plate offering. I wanted something fairly compact and have some features that I don't believe any other bag has. By making it triangul…

I was looking for a cheap cart that can fit all sorts of types of work. I found the rolling workshop of STANLEY, they have several models and sizes that one could fit my needs. Most of the time I work with Harness so I chose this model because it is modular and can be used for all kinds of jobs. Improvements: I add small wheels in the front. I'll find something better to the antennas.

For people with custom carts and BMX tires (12 or 20inch), what are you using for brakes? Before I make a bracket to mount an actual BMX/MTB brake, is there anything else you guys have been using? My cart right now is a "PSC-style" inspired cart made from 80/20 T-slot extrusions. I have some sweet 80's BMX 20" mag wheels on it. I had to remove the front wheel brakes when a nut fell off during a film. They didn't work so well anyway. This is an old setup, but the cart/wheel configuration is about the same:
