Anyone here have experience - better yet pictures - opening an audioroot or other smart battery? I have one bad cell in a pack and would like to play around with it without destroying it.

Hi all, I am in a predicament. Our lovely DPA 4035 headset microphones are starting to fail - these are lovely, bulky headset microphone arms with DPA 4007 capsules on the end that get used in broadcast. We suspect it is just a worn-out cable at the top of the arm, but I can't seem to get it disassembled to repair or replace. DPA are no help. They no longer sell parts for the microphones, nor service them. Any thoughts on how I might get inside this thing? The capsule doesn't seem to unscrew at all. The tragedy is - if I can't get these things repaired, Rode headsets have been suggested as the replacements...

hi!! i just came on this site and saw that there’s a lot nagra threats. i got my first nagra yesterday and absolutely love it. i got it from danish radio station, Danmarks Radio, and i learned that one of the knobs is fixed/locked. i read somewhere they did this on the radio stations so journalists couldn’t screw anything up while recording. i’m a musician myself so i wanted to ask out here if anyone knows how i can “unlock” the knob. it is the ALC compression in front of the machine (see picture). the guy that i got it from had a theory that it might be some hex nut, that’s tightening it from inside, so i wanted to ask on this site if anyone know what it is or/and have …

So here's my humble setup. I want to thank all the members of this forum for the years of discussions or shared experiences, pictures, details and specs that helped me. this board is a goldmine in terms of informations and important details to look after the facebook groups, reddit (at some point), and other users on other platforms are also useful , but since my beginnings in location sound (with a zoom H6, oktava mics, rode vlimp and g3's strapped on my guitar strap), I always go back lurking on JWSsound. So Here's the result of years of lurking and inspiration. and savings. I said to myself, one day I will po…

I want to be able to connect an external antenna to my Wisycom MTP40s when using it as TX for my IEM. Need to make a cable with 1-pin Lemo on one end and SMA or BNC on the other. What's the name of the 1-pin lemo connector I need? Any recommendations for a well suited cable for this? The length needs to be 1-3 meters

Hi, I´m about to solder CAL-48 and CAL-120 (Lemo FVB.00.303.NLAE24 on one end and TA5F/TA3F on the other) for Wisycom MTP40s and need to find a proper cable with right dimensions for this. 1 screen, 2 conductor-cable with max 2,5 mm diameter. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking about building an AES breakout for my Nova, which has a mini DB-15 connector, better known as a VGA monitor plug, at the source. Obviously, this pinouts are completely different, but I'm wondering if I can take a shortcut and butcher an old VGA cable to give me the plug end, and then splice the outputs farther down the cable. I only need about 12 inches of cable. My gut says this won't work: The ground for the Nova is pin-8, whereas VGA ground is pin-5, and I doubt that VGA shares impedance or frequency characteristics with AES. But ... for anyone who has tried or thought about this. Am I completely crazy to attempt this?

I guess the title says it pretty much. It seems to be 16mm wide, but is it metric and if, what is the pitch?

5 years. It's been 5 years since I initially envisioned something unique to get my ceremony gear to where it needed to go. For a while I've been using my R&R or Muver cart, and while it works to a certain degree it would have challenges over more rugged or less hospitable terrain. So I finally bit the bullet, and as some people saw as I was posting the build as it was happening, it all came together pretty quickly. So here is the full lowdown on the cart, where I got my inspiration from, even some of my original concept ideas, right into the current build including a full Build Of Materials for those that want to try this on their own. https://djlou.te…

Hello, I am in the process of getting an LCR stereo setup for the first time (after years of 2 channels stereo recordings). Those of you who have used it for a while, what cable would you recommend to built my own XLR7 cables? I have been doing some research and have not yet found a proper cable with 3 pairs, good flexibility, and a suitable ext. diameter of no more than 6mm. Thanks Fred

Hi all, I need to wired up a bunch of Sennheiser HSP-4 headsets for 5-pin Lectrosonics. I have done plenty of 2-wire Sennheiser lavs, but when I popped the lid on these headsets I found three wires (gasp!). Red, Blue and Copper shield. It isn't something I am familiar with. Is it just a case of wiring to figure 11? (1 = copper, 3 = blue, 5 = red)?

I spent enough years using lead solder in my youth. And now, even with a small fume extractor, I just don't want to use lead solder anymore. Alas, the lead-free ones I've tried are a bit trickier to use. Perhaps I need to improve and/or tweak my technique. Or perhaps I'd prefer a different lead-free solder. I'm up for trying flux-core or solid if that'll help... I'm most familiar with Kester, but have no brand loyalty on this. I'm mainly making cables, soldering basic components to PCBs, and doing some fun point-to-point stuff. (So ya, cables for work. Guitar pedals and amps for fun (and I may try a couple synth modules, too) Kester 275 No-Clean Fl…

Firstly, these are the locations where the live concerts and recording jobs would take place: #1 #2 #3 As you can see, if we were to arrange the main microphones in the middle of the concert hall, this would detract from the perception of the audience. However, apparently, I can't punch holes in the walls of these rooms for microphone hookups, which would result in a huge claim for money and my expulsion from school So, my current idea is to use a pair of very tall microphone stands (such as K&M 20811), place them at the very edge of the venue, and then use a wire and suspend th…

I have several boom poles one of which is a VDB that i have since stopped using for quite a while. In my quest to find a boom pole to stuff in a carry-on I settled on a K-tek traveler i already have, not the greatest but it’s fit my needs for this particular travel job. The smaller VDB‘s were out of stock and it’s unknown when they will become available at present time where i had checked recently. Looking at this boom pole I have on hand the idea hit me that may be in its fully folded state I could potentially chop it off to a new desired length and retro fit a rubber boot at the bottom and engineer some sort of replacement stoppers inside on each inner tube. h…

I've come into possession of an Audio Technica cardioid lav: ATM350 (cW) (along with an omni cousin, an AT899c). I'd like to reterminate it for Lectro, and I'm trying to figure out if this is even possible with this mic. With some digging, I've identified the pinouts on the existing connector, but I haven't found reliable information about the required bias voltage. The official spec sheet lists 11-48V phantom, which obviously wouldn't work with anything except a plug-on transmitter, but that is for the cabled version, which includes an in-line adapter that accepts phantom. I have the "wireless version" (ATM350cW), which "features a 1.4 m (55") miniature cabl…

I'm traveling around with my peli air 1637 case and would love to have a 4 wheel kit for this case. It seems the Peli 0500 castor wheel kit not compatible with this case, so I'm thinking to make wheel plates and attach swivel wheels. I think I can install 4 wheels and only drill in the bottom handle parts and original wheel holders and rather not drill in the bottom of my case. Would you recommend small 3 inch or big wheels 10 inch for a case that weighs 33kg (73 pounds) full for going on planes and trains and curbs in between? And for the cab rides in between, it could be handy that the wheels are quickly removable. All advice and experi…

Hi all, I have a Senken Cos-11d lav mic that is currently terminated with an XLR that allows 48v phantom power. I want to change this to a Sennheiser-type 3.5mm TRS tip, but am getting mixed info from Sanken and Sennheiser. I own the G4 500 series wireless transmitter/receiver from Sennheiser (which is a balanced signal). Most literature — and in fact the wiring diagram Sanken sent me, is for the g3 unbalanced series. In this, it tells me to combine the ground and shield on the TRS side. But wouldn’t this unbalance my cos-11D? does anyone know the specific wiring for the G4 500 series Sennheisers that maintains a balanced signal. Or perhaps…

I have been using Redco TSG-1 cable for audio bag interconnections for a number of years based off of Eric Toline’s recommendation. I’m going to be connecting AES wireless to a Sound Devices XL-AES and see that Redco now carries a digital cable TSG-D1. I’m wondering if this is a different cable from the TSG-1 and if I can just use the non-digital cable on a very short run? I’ll probably call Redco but they aren’t open until Tuesday. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have an issue in my home studio set up where I think I have deduced to padded flooring that I walk across to get to my computer set up and then when I sit down and touch something connected via USB like a usb controller etc I get a shock and sometimes even one of my computer monitors will flash off and back on. I have tried to troubleshoot this online and I see a lot of explanations of why it’s caused but I don’t see many offers for solutions. I also suspect it’s because I have an iMac with a few devices connected like powered USB ports, but all tied to the same circuit as far as I recall. Does anyone have any suggestions how I might work towards a solution?

For those who roll their own video BNC cables what parts do you like to use? I’m currently using Belden 1505F cable with Canare connectors. Pretty happy with this combo overall. But every once and awhile the BNC locking ring breaks off. Anyone try out Neutrik’s reartwist BNCs?
