So I've got a 40' XLR cable, and a 50' 1/8" male - 1/8" female cable that I'd like to wrap around the XLR cable and make a last-minute duplex boom cable. Any ideas on how to cover/assemble this once it's wrapped together? Heat-shrink and zip ties? Thanks Max

I just saw a plexiglass screen protector for 664 on the SD facebook page. It just occurred to me that it might be economically feasible to have a small batch of custom screen protectors made of sapphire glass. Perhaps, if it is exactly the right size, it would stay on without any adhesive. Sapphire glass is the kind of glass they use on watches and it's super hard.. very difficult to scratch and optically superior. http://www.rayotek.com/sapphire_windows.htm I'd buy one or two in a group buy for sure.. especially if the price is right. What do you think?

I have a couple of little projects in mind to round out my bag, basically some folded aluminum in various shapes to keep the bag rigid in a couple of areas: 1) An "L" shaped piece that would attach to my 664, and surround the void that is created underneath the CL6, allowing me to store an NP1 or two underneath. 2) A "Poor-Man's" Otopack: basically just a box to mount my Lectro SR's to, without the weight, power and antenna distro of the original. These seem like they'd be simple enough to do, but I don't really know the first place to look to have that kind of work done. Does anyone know of a place (preferably in NYC) where I could get some help with this …

I checked around on the forum first to see if this was posted already, but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone have the correct wiring for a Line to Mic built in padded cable--TA5f to XLRF? I use it for taking a feed from the mixer when I'm working a behind the scenes gig, and mine went to shit on a gig recently. I built the cable originally 15 years ago, using resistors from Radio Shack and an odd wiring scheme and I can't for the life of me remember how I did it, also I can't really decipher it. It worked like a champ for all that time...and then it didn't. Anyway, I have a workaround in the meantime, but I'd like to rebuild it if someone can remind me…

I run a bag with an SD302 and an Edriol R-09 as a backup recorder. I have been going from the headphone out to a G2 and sending that to the director. I would like go be able to chose between L or R channel and figure with a Y cable I could do this. Could I just keep the stero mini jack in the G2 and run the Y cable to the Edriol? Then switch channels by changing mini jacks. Could I just wire one jack tip and ground and the other jack ring and ground? Of am I missing some wiring issue? Thanks, Bob

I'm using this organizer box from Home Depot. Holds all the transmitters and lav accessories. Currently holding 12 SMVQ's and 2 SMa's, but the trays are deep enough to double or even triple up. http://www.homedepot.com/buy/husky-22-in-cantilever-plastic-organizer-with-metal-latches-17185073.html The bottom shelf holds 12 individual plastic trays. Just cut away a side on each tray so the transmitters can lay across.

I recently got my SD 664 and want to use my schoeps CMC4/MK41 which needs 12T power, which the 664 doesn't have. I've owned the PSC 48v-12T adapter for a few years, but only use it when not wearing a bag as I've found the power will drop out if the the barrel gets moved around too much. I'm trying to figure out a solution to avoid buying a CMC6 or CMC5, though I know might have to. Has anyone used the 12T barrel adapter in a bag with success and avoided the power dropping out? I'm thinking about making a cable with the 12t barrel taped or shrink sealed to the xlr connectors so movement is limited.. but thought I'd see if anyone here had any good suggestion…

I'm planning on building a kind of "gating" box that will work with a timecode transmitter, for use when camera is running master TC and transmitting back to my 552 via a wireless link. I missed a cue on a shoot last week and forgot to roll on a take while using a hop. It got me started thinking about a way to have auto roll working on my 552 while the camera is running TOD TC. The DTAP output on many Sony camcorders has a function where it only outputs power when the camera is rolling, for use with top lights. My idea was to hook up a relay to this socket and have it switch the TC feed to my transmitter on and off. That way my 552 will only roll when it sees moving t…

I'm cleaning an Audio Developments 062, and wanted to remove and clean under the knobs. I have a screwdriver that I notched with a grinder that works perfect for removing the nut at the top. With the nut loose, the knob is still tight. Anyone know the procedure? I'm sure they are the same knobs as the 145's and maybe some later models. Rakesh Figured it out!

Ah, a new mixer means time to melt solder! I have all the XLRs I need, but am woefully low on the TA3F and TA5F...want to get the new one into service, so need to order the parts soon, as luckily I don't have a lot of time off the next week, and then can take the projects with me on a road trip. Whose got the best price...probably buying a minimum of 10 or so of each. thanks...cleve

Hi, Thgis is my first post. I built a power distro with remote on/off &volt meter. I will post construction details in next post. It has individual fusing for each output and reverse voltage protection as well. It cost about $80 to build which includes all the device feed cables. You can see other DIY projects on my site:http://ecstaticfilms.com/diy/diy.php

I was wondering if anyone knew where you could buy the coiled cable that you find on some XLRs. I wanted to make a few cables with it.

I get insomnia sometimes... most people take Nyquil or a shot of whiskey or something. I tend to take things apart. Here is a shot of the front housing. A top mounted mode selector with 5pin (CN701), loudspeaker wired to daughterboard with 4pin (CN703), mic gain potentiometer on 3pin (CN601), and what looks to be a ground reference using the H2n's front grill screen.

Yeah, I've been seeing this camera enough to warrant building dedicated cables from my usual receiver units. Sometimes I feed using a Zaxcom TRX900s and sometimes from a Lectro R1a. Depends on the camera assistant. I prefer using the Zax for the higher quality but can't always sell it to the 1st AC. Either way here are my new cables for the Epic... If you're wiring up some of these yourself and are confused with the specs, don't worry you're not dumb it's just confusing. Basically consider the 1/8" mini jack a miniaturized XLR connector. It is balanced. There are two, one for left and one for right. Tip is +HOT Ring is -COLD Sleeve is GROUND Happy s…

Just completed this with the wonderful help of Mr. Eric Toline. I would have had a very difficult time with this as I continue to learn soldering techniques but he made it very easy. I continue to find a plethora of knowledge here and I am still amazed at how helpful and generous many of the experienced mixers have been. Thanks Eric!

Hi all. I have seen in the manual for Lectrosonics SMDB that some mics can pick up RF from the TX being close to the mic. I am currently using the TXs on my booms utilising the Ambient UMPii power supplys. I can hear what can only be described as a strange "bubbling" noise during low level dialogue and inbetween speeches, although post production have not said anything as yet it is enough that i know it is there and need to find a cure. I am wondering if it is RF i am hearing through the mic so i have decided to try the capacitor tick as seen in the manual. Problem is i cant really understand the diagram. Can anyone tell me in lamens terms which legs to which pins…

I need to make a 5-pin to 5-pin Lemo TC out cable between an Ambient TRX and an Alexa. I have a connector diagram from my 744t manual which i will be using with the Ambient TRX boxes. The manual connector diagram is as follows: Pin 1- ground 2- SMPTE TC in 3- ASCII in/out 4- Tuning out 5- SMPTE TC out Questions: 1) What cable- I have immediate access to all types of Canare cable where I am located so preferably a recommendation from this brand would be ideal. 2) Pin config- If it is a TC out cable, am I correct in assuming that I only need to connect Pin 5, and pin 1? Thanks in advance!
