The final breath of life for the original OneUnit. I am assisting its suicide. RIP my friend. You served me well and inspired a technical revolution. I will keep using and reusing your organs forever. And leaving the battery slot in you because it’s still better then Nova.

So I got a 3D printer and I have a few ideas regarding sound related prints. I'm using G3s for sending audio to cameras which I usually place in the side mounted pouches of my OR30. But those pouches are to big for G3s and I had a few fall over. So I came up with this. This is going to be field tested in the next few days. I already know that this is going to be a bit weak since this is a first draft PLA print but I was wondering what are your thoughts on this project and if you had any ideas to improve upon that idea. Just so you know this is not a commercial project and this will probably end up on Thingiverse.

Recently I picked up a Sennheiser EK 2000 receiver on eBay for 250 bucks. At that price I figured it might need some repair but I lucked out- it works great. My kit also includes 7 other Sennheiser units, all are either G3 or G4 in the 100 series (EK and SK). I recently modded these units with the SMA antennas using online tutorials and videos and found that they are mostly the same, apart from small design differences. I have a friend who has also modded the 100 series units, as well as the 500 series. My question- has anyone here done this modification on a 2000 series unit? Is it [more or less] the same process? Are there any pit…

Hello all, I’ve been attempting to find a 2 conductor shielded cable that can fit down the Lemo 3 pin crimp ferrule. Does anyone know of such a cable? I cant seem to find a supplier with search filtering that declares a OD for outer jacket overall diameter. Best, Alex

Well i was playing around with this contraption. after a long time i finally at least started testing tiny ideas i had for a project that keeps coming back at me. (in a good way) 3 guesses what the purpose might be i kind of spoiled it in the video but ok Its about holding strength and how it feels (mechanical feedback) since i am no engineer i do it the old fashioned way.. just make it and see what it does This is of course only proof of concept and the thing is only made to just test how it feels and what i should consider to change in the basic design. since i cant model this. now i can measure how far the plates need to be to get the mechanical f…

Hi, I want to make my own 5-pin to 3-pin XLR cable for my M/S rig. The ones I buy keep having issues. What bulk cable should I get for this? I don't see a lot of options that break out in the way that these do, maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

Hi Folks! So I did my own SMA antenna mod on my Sennheiser G3 receivers. And I said, ok, If they now have the sma plugs, it might be a good idea to have and external LPDA antenna to then, so this way I could have all my rx on my cart, and have then with longer range! So I bough a rf passive splitter from 1 in to 2 outputs, and 2 passive splitter with 1 in to 4 outputs, this way I could send 1 antenna signal to 8 rx. I bought a LPDA printed antenna which claims to have 18dB of gain. To compensate for rf loss on the passive splitters, I also bought a chinese RF amplifier circuit with more 20dB of gain. As I knew all this amplification this could o…

Building some long RG8x runs and curious about how others handle the pin connection. As I see it one has the following options for dealing with the pin. 1) just crimp it to the bare copper stranded conductor. No solder. 2) crimp it bare then solder through the little hole a bit 3) tin the stranded conductor then crimp the pin on. 4) tin. Then crimp. Then solder again through little hole. 5) just solder it, no crimp. I think that covers all possible scenarios... For those who know, or think they do what’s your method? And for the record I’m specifically referring to Belden RG8X (9258) …

Hello, Can anyone suggest a circuit for a passive limiter, using diodes and resistors. I would like to know if it is possible to suppress audio signal peaks higher than +18dbu. (6.16v?). I am using a mic preamp, with line level out, into a recorder and constantly get digital distortion when there are fast transients like hand claps or even laughter. The recorder has a digital limiter but it does not help. There is a product available in the form of an xlr barrel, but I would like to know if it is a circuit I can put in a small box with ta3f in and out, or something I can add to the preamp out, internally. Thanks, Rodrigo

Want to share observations on an inexpensive passband filter. Working on another version of my Cantar Mini bag and want to integrate all of the wireless to just two antennas. I would also like to have passband filtering which most of the commercial offering lack. So bought one of the Chinese passband filters to see how it looked. On the spectrum analyzer, it is wider than the printed label. At 8db down as shown on the analyzer the upper end is around 658mHz and the lower end is around 505mhz. The measured insertion loss is about 2.5db. Not as narrow as I had hoped. Still a lot of the T mobile spectrum could slip by. Probably would help with on set w…

You know my stance on the current bags available so I have no other option then make my own “like my OneUnit bag” or to modify others. here is my Condor mod. so far I have removed the zipper and opened the bag top. Next I will sew closed cel foam on the back and bottom and will insert second zipper on all tree pockets. I am using blue tread for the Mock up so you see the mod. It will go black when I go to the sewing machine. Condor Deployment Bag (Black, 12 x 6 x 5.5-Inch) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003W96GG8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rWOMDb7DN6JX7

For the past few months I have been using my Cantar Mini. I work bag and bag cart, so in my search for a Cantar Mini bag I found only three sources and none of them really did what I needed done in a bag. So I built two versions, the second is shown below in the photos. The first version shall never be seen in public. All of the metal work and sewing I did, so please don't judge me!! The Mini is not like any other recorder/mixer shape. So my design incorporates a frame much like the Aaton cheese plate offering. I wanted something fairly compact and have some features that I don't believe any other bag has. By making it triangul…

Hello all - for some time, I've been trying to get a quick setup car rig working and sounding right, for those times when I want to use my MKH50 or 8040 for car dialogue (either standalone or to supplement lavs in the visors). The lavs in visors work fine enough, although I'm not fussy on the sound reflecting back from the glass. And we all know that the challenge of putting a mic lower in the car is battling more road noise and bumps. Clamps or suction cups, for me anyways, are always a bit hit or miss...they may be in the way of a camera in the passenger seat, or they transmit road vibrations too much for my liking. So I've build a dual shockmou…

Hi all, if like me you have a Tentacle Sync version 1 with a weak battery, then like me, you probably are having a terrible time finding any information on how to change it. Most retailers I contacted did not have stock on this part, let alone know that the part was available from Tentacle. Its an easy fix. The battery replacement kit which comes with a battery, new plastic housing, velcro hook tape, super glue and rubber color bands. I was able to open mine without causing damage to the original housing, so I just glued it back together on the side of the case opposite the screw. Here are some pictures:

Hi everybody, I started a new DIY project. Since I really enjoy this forum and the wisdom shared I´d like to give something back. Here I´ll share the progress of this project with you. The situation I have a matched pair of Oktava MK-012 with cardioid capsules and use them for AB / ORTF stereo field recordings. I´d like to have good wind protection for them. Because I own a 3D printer and like to design functional parts I chose to give this approach a try before buying Rycote Baby Ball Gags or something similar. If everything works out I plan on buying just the fur from Rycote. For software I used Fusion 360 and Cura which both are free f…

Regarding adding a pot to a Sennheiser G3 EK100. I stumbled on an article about someone who added a volume pot on a G3 EK100 receiver for use as IFB receiver. Apparently the SK100 boards are very similar to the EK300 IEM boards. Now I can't find this post or article anywhere. Does anyone have a link or info on this mod? Thanks!

Thinking about adding a second battery connector so that I can hot swap batteries without bringing the bag down. I was considering using diodes to isolate the batteries, but I don't want the voltage drop that would bring. Do I even need isolation? I don't want to run both batteries at the same time, just connect a second then disconnect the first.

It was once suggested to me to try a drop of olive oil as a method for cleaning the cables on DPA 4071 mics...it sort of works, but sometimes the adhesive from using surgical tape can be difficult to remove-I've been advised against using adhesive remover as it could be potentially corrosive and cause damage to the mic cable... Has anyone come across any other successful methods of cleaning lav mics?

The Rode Blimp 2 is a vast improvement over the first version. They upgraded it to adopt the Lyre suspension by Rycote, which is orders of magnutude better than the old traditional rubber ring suspension. Alas, it seems to be a half baked product and so far they haven't shown much interest on it. Two important flaws are: 1- The built in Lyres are too soft. Rycote manufacturers Lyres with several grades of stiffness. The possibility of using different lyres would be great. Sadly Rode decided to manufacture a sort of standard Lyre but with a built in adapter for the Rode rail, in a single piece. This makes it difficult to adapt Rycote spare Lyres. …
