I'm planning my first cart build, and was looking at the Gallery of Sound Carts to get some inspiration. Now - I am wondering what those rails are that most of you are using to build your custom carts? Can't seem to find anything on the internet or in the shops... I mean the rails that you can see on those carts: http://jwsound.smugmug.com/Gallerysoundcarts/i-bxhngc4 http://jwsound.smugmug.com/Gallerysoundcarts/i-6mLgLJV Any hints? Or any suggestions for similarly useful rails systems?

THANKS ERIC, et al for the advice on the REAN TA3F and TA5F! I spent Sunday making 18 custom cables for my new mixer and all seems to be OK...they worked when I checked them. Real world use starts tomorrow. : : : cleve

I have been looking in to tracking technology and how it can benefit us. I had success today tracking a comtek with tile Velcrod on it. It was simulated event "I told my producer to just set it somewhere in the 5 buildings where we shoot" but I found it successfully in the paint shop. I believe I can break the tile plastic and tape the blutooth board and battery with Kapton Polyimide Film Tape inside a comtek or my OneUnit. I see a lot of possibility for us to benefit from this technology. Gps trackers are interesting as well but bigger then Blutooth. I will post some pictures tomorrow. P.S. Yes I understand that this technology is scary and can lead in to t…

Anyone have any recommendations for 4 channel cable for a DMS setup. I'm aware of the Schoeps DMS conbox but I want to weigh my options.

Using the Pelican 1300 for a batt case is pretty common, and several sound houses have long sold custom assembled ones. However, it has been my observation that the resulting weight clearly exceeds what the Pelican 1300 was designed for. As such, I've always been attentive to the pins that hold the handle to the case, which can be problematic on Pelican cases in general but pose a substantial safety concern here. On the 1300 the pin can easily work its way out of one of the two thin blades of plastic on each side of the handle, and you might have a drop occur. You do not want the battery-loaded case falling on your foot or anyone else's. Here's a simple mod I did to …

I'm working on a shoot where I have to record a phone conversation between 2 people. I'll be in the room with one person and the other on the phone. I've done this before with a phone hybrid, but I don't have access to one. I was just thinking about planting a lav near the speaker and just put the call on speaker and lav the person in the room with me. Any other alternatives? Thanks

Hi, I want to make my own 5-pin to 3-pin XLR cable for my M/S rig. The ones I buy keep having issues. What bulk cable should I get for this? I don't see a lot of options that break out in the way that these do, maybe I am looking in the wrong place.

Anyone have problems with the mini jack input to the Red Epic? I've heard it to be unreliable.

I am making 2 Y cables for Epic from ERX1tcd. Lemo 4 pin tc goes to the Tip. I want to send the Ring to the Epic 3.5 Left or right audio input at line level. There is a lot of conflicting information and plenty of troublesome reports from the field. Some people say you need the A-BOX from woodencamera.com or the epic will not record sound. What would be the correct wiring for the 3.5 red audio input? And also will the TC bleed in to the audio when they both share ground? Senator's hat not an option since my shoot is early morning on Monday. I insisted on a test run on Sunday which might happen but still would like to have the cables ready. Thanks

I have been using Redco TSG-1 cable for audio bag interconnections for a number of years based off of Eric Toline’s recommendation. I’m going to be connecting AES wireless to a Sound Devices XL-AES and see that Redco now carries a digital cable TSG-D1. I’m wondering if this is a different cable from the TSG-1 and if I can just use the non-digital cable on a very short run? I’ll probably call Redco but they aren’t open until Tuesday. Any ideas? Thanks.

Great News. I just spoke with Glenn and it turns out the qrx200 antenna connection can be easily rerouted to the bottom of the unit for people who use antenna distribution. That will allow for better cable management and cleaner front/top for great button access. The qrx200 already has 2 holes for IFB TC and Audio so it should be very easy to install the sma. Moving the qrx200 antenna sma to the bottom will allow me to make a One Unit Nomad, 4 qrx200s and a micplexer with common front panel.

Has anyone devised a way to remote roll a Sound Devices 644 interfaced with a Cooper 208D V2?

I programmed a microcontroller to listen the the switch that was previously going to the serial port on nomad, now taken up by RX-12. It emulates the keyboard commands for roll and stop and works like business as usual using the USB port.

First outing yesterday for my little remote switch and battery distribution system that I cobbled together from bits I've had lying around for a year or two. The remote switch and voltage display clips neatly into a Petrol pouch and the wiring runs into the bag to my Tracer LiPo 10Ah battery and a simple, fused four-way Hirose distribution box. (I found the blue Deltron box on Ebay as part of a set of five for £10 - I'm keeping a couple of the others, but in anyone in the UK wants one or both of the remaining two for a couple of quid, let me know.) Battery input to the remote switch is via a 4 pin XLR and from the switch to the distribution box, a locking DC barrel conne…

I use Countryman B6 and Sanken cos-11 Lavs. I have several that have glue left from mole skin. What is the best product to use to get it off without harming the mics. Thanks

Hi guys I have a COS 11 that's intermittently crackly at the mic end (just where the cable enters the capsule) which tells me the cable is on it's way out. Has any one had the same problem and cut and rewired from that end or does this mean the demise of said mic? Is the cable moulded into the capsule and therefore irreparable or can I breath new life into it. The mic isn't that old and want to avoid buying another one if I can possibly help it.

Anyone had any luck fixing these? I found the point where the cable goes into the wallwart crushed over, wires exposed and unfortunately had already plugged it in and turned on - I've repaired the wires but it's still dead so I'm assuming I've cooked something in the charger part - had a look but can't tell. I've got a replacement turning up tomorrow but a second would be nice, any ideas or is it off to the bin?

I have a pair of Sony 7506 headphones that developed a break partway down the cable. I have cut out the bad section and now need to splice back together the two cables. There are two things I am confused about and wondering if anyone can shed some light. 1. The internal wires are colored and remind me of annodized aluminum. There is no jacket around each individual wire as they are each twisted around each other. This surprised me as I am used to dealing with separate wires each with jackets. 2. I can't get solder to adhere to the cable. I tried both a 15 and 25 watt iron with 62/32/2 rosin core solder. It just won't bond to the Sony wires. Any sugges…

I am considering to do a mod with sennheiser evolution wireless to replace the jack input with lemo 3 connector, does any one did this before? My plan would be purchase a LEMO 3 female connector spare part from sennheiser, and replace it on the G2 transmitter. http://spares.sennheiser.co.uk/wireless-3000-5000-series/sk-2000/sk2000-lemo-connector-3-pin-female-socket.html Any idea if this could works? Thanks..

I was missing a few "connector ring nuts" from my g2 and G3 sets, wanted to get replacements as I was self refurbing the units I have. Found the official part #600357 at full compass for $3.50 each http://www.fullcompass.com/product/438166.html Searched for a cheaper supplier and came across "Round knurled nut for M6 sized hardware and audio jacks/adapters" on JAMECO $0.19 each, 10+ qty. part number 2183226 http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10001_10001_2183226_-1 Ordered a bunch, figured it'd be a cheap mistake if it didn't work out. Took about a week to get to me, but I'm happy to report they fit perfectly.

I am looking to make some BNC to LEMO and ERX1TCD to LEMO time code cables for RED shoots. I find it very hard to justify the high cost of the pre-made cables but the LEMO connectors themselves are also not cheap. In my research, I came across this site: http://www.econnek.com/ which has replacement LEMO connectors for a fraction of the price. I found one that is compatible with LEMO 4 pin but can't find a LEMO 5 pin on their site. The 4 pin is only $6.50 USD (even though it currently says 0 are available for shipping.... ) Does anyone have any experience with these connectors? Reliability, build quality, true compatibility with RED?

At NAB this year I purchased a great book on wiring audio cable ( http://www.amazon.ca...s/dp/0240520068 ) and have been busy ever since practicing and making all sorts of custom cables for different needs that I previously would have either just bought or used different turnarounds etc. With that said, I'm feeling a confident/adventurous and want to try my hand at repairing a lectro power switch. I bought a 201 used last year that came with the power switch completely broken off. I've been using a tweaker tool to turn it on and off with no issue, but it's time to restore it the way it should be. I purchased the power switch, and without having opened up the Lec…

One of my bags (mystery brand!) has window/flap that has gone fairly milky...received it this way and doesn't seem to clean up..probably damaged by a cleanser? Not a big deal really, but kind O' crappy cosmetically. I tried a few searches here but didn't come up with anything. Any thoughts on where to source suitable material to replace? Thanks
