So after pouring over countless T-slot cart designs I’m about to put in my own order with 80/20 for a custom cut and milled kit to build a smallish, collapsible follow cart. Wondering if any of you who have done the deep dive into extruded aluminum T-slot contraptions would have any general advice? Things to watch out for or design mistakes to avoid? Connectors you hated? Some specific questions I have.. how does the anodized black framing stand up to wear and tear? Anyone use the “Central connector”? Thanks! Derek

Hey...I forgot to order a couple of panel mount 4 pin XLRs for the patch bay I'm building this weekend and now everything's closed. Oops. Trouble is the patch bay needs to be done Monday. If anyone's got two lying around that they could loan or sell me and bail me out of a jam, I'd be most grateful! I can come pick them up for you if you're in the boroughs. Thanks much if you can help!

I am trying to solder LEMO 3pin connector for SSM transmitter soon. But I figured the pins inside LEMO are so tiny and the bigger problem is Cos11d's wire itself is so fragile and thin specially white wire. I searched here and there...but not easy answers for me. Anybody can give some tips?? Pre-soldered Lavs are kind expensive.

Ok so I am finally getting around to building a couple of boxes next week and am wondering about a couple of things as I don't have any boxes in front of me. 1)should there be a vertical reinforcement panel in the center of the full boxes.. i.e.. from the top there would be a front back and 3 sides. I for some reason think I have seen this somewhere before though can think of no practical reason to do so as long as your top and bottom are 3/4" ply 2) wood... is birch ply ok I see no reason why not but somebody else mentioned maple to me in an off topic conversation last week. The maple would be harder stuff but I see no reason why birch should not work. Act…

Im booming a feature for a few weeks and wanted to get my hands on or make an apps box with a boom pole hole in it. Anyone have dimensions or know someone near the Baltimore area that may know how to make them? Would it work if I just bought a full apple then just drilled a hole in one end?

I am going to wire an older AT899(cW) for a Sennheiser G4 3.5mm. Am I correct that I connet the Mic (white) to the tip and tie the Bias(red) and ground to both the ring and sleeve?

Hello all, I just picked up a used 8 channel AD-146. Unfortunately, the previous owner had not opted to perform the factory direct-out mod. I have priced out the boards from AD (at £85 ea.). I am entirely willing to go that route, but first wanted to check to see if anyone here had personal experience taping an unbuffered, high Z output from the channel strips as they are. One thing that I am apprehensive about with the AD mod boards, is that Ill be sacrificing my line ins, which I would prefer to keep for interfacing with a Lectro venue. Anyway, I'm just putting out feelers. I havent seen a schematic yet and dont know how the internal/panel real estate looks. Th…

I'm building a right angle DC cable that goes from my Audio Root distro to my Cedar DNS-2. The wall wart that shipped with the DNS-2 was built with 22AWG. In the wall wart graveyard, I found some 24AWG and some 18AWG, but no 22AWG. In a quick search of the site here, I found advice regarding 22-24 being fine..but my question is: Could I make this DC cable build a bit sturdier? I was wondering if it was okay to do the build with the 18AWG. Any advice for my build here? Thanks for any help, Rachel

I'm planning on building a kind of "gating" box that will work with a timecode transmitter, for use when camera is running master TC and transmitting back to my 552 via a wireless link. I missed a cue on a shoot last week and forgot to roll on a take while using a hop. It got me started thinking about a way to have auto roll working on my 552 while the camera is running TOD TC. The DTAP output on many Sony camcorders has a function where it only outputs power when the camera is rolling, for use with top lights. My idea was to hook up a relay to this socket and have it switch the TC feed to my transmitter on and off. That way my 552 will only roll when it sees moving t…

Hey all - Has anyone discovered a way to mount a 5/8 baby pin on a standard 19" rack (which uses 10-32 screws)? I'd love to add a monitor arm to my Yamaha 01V96i mixer rack, but I can't seem to find a way to mount one on the rack rails. Thanks! -Mike

I was recently injured earlier this year in a car accident (broke both legs, right wrist, sternum and ribs) and am trying to take it easy. I’m trying to build a relatively small foot print colapseable bag cart to not have to have my bag strapped to me all day. Yeaterday I was on a job (not using my gear) in a statium and the client had me carry around a fully loaded bag with a crappy Pertol Harness (664/CL-6 in an orca) with 4 411s and 2 Hops just to boom (unusable audio due to music from the statium.) I asked nicely why I can’t just go hardlined to camera (we had a wireless Hop and I gaurentee thatd be what they’d use). But he wanted the wav files???? O…

So, I'm thinking of building a bag cart based on a hand truck. Pretty simple, just a hand truck with a shelf attached and a case of some kind on the bottom for spare cables, adapters and back up gear maybe. Most likely, I'd just use a decent sized plastic tool box attached with bungee cords. Also, a boom holder and cable and headphone hooks. I've been thinking about using a hand truck with a fiberglass/nylon frame, mainly because I don't have any drill bits for drilling through steel. Here's the hand truck I'm looking at... http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100095316/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=hand+truck&storeId=10051#.UJ7Z_6…

Two hip replacements in the past two years and still needing to work, has required some thinking about work habits. Most of my jobs are bag related, very few with a larger mix panel, so my search led me to the various commercial offerings along with mixer op built bag carts. My criteria being weight, size, and cost. One aspect was I didn't want to reinvent the wheel, so I went with a ready made aluminum cart. For ease in building along with the ability to perform modifications I chose to use the 1" extruded aluminum product. There are a number of companies selling this type of product all over the world, 8020, T-Slots, Parker, Bosch, Mainframe, Item, Mayhew and o…

Hey everyone, Can anyone shed some light on proper grounding techniques when wiring up a sound bag? Is the usual one-path-to-ground rule still the best approach to constructing a bag that is as quiet as possible? Perhaps centred around the mixer/recorder with the shields floated at the receiver end?

I will be recieving my 788t today and a bag and a BDS, my CL8 and CLwifi next week along with 3 more channels lectro SR/SMV and I already have a great boom kit. I will build my bag rig first and then over the next year transition onto a cart. I will continue to post on my progress. In preparation to utility the third season of the walking dead I am building on Trew Audios Video Assist kit. The main difference in mine is durability and use. First off every show I have been on does not need audio from or to the sound cart from video village. We just need video. My system uses the muxlab 500037 to give us 4 BNC inputs/outputs and no audio. I am going to install all th…

So I've made a slide on shelf for my pelican storm case for my bag to sit on, but i wanted to make another one that could be used on my standard cart top with my bag as well as have a pull out drawer for my CL9. For a first pass, I think it came out great! Used a knotted piece as my pull handle and found the drawer slides at Office Depot for free since the hardware was missing, so everything used was free and recycled! Still going to put a tung oil or ling seed oil to finish it. Let me know what you think!

Since the commercially available barrel pads are so long and bulky I decided to make a 20dB balanced L-pad (U-pad) out of a 2' XLR patch cable. The problem is it wont pass P48 or 12T power. It does work with dynamic mics, and attenuates as intended, but not with my condensers which of course is the reason I made it. Not sure if i made it wrong or am missing something. Any suggestions? I followed these instructions http://www.uneeda-audio.com/pads/

I am thinking about building my own battery eliminator for my Sennheiser G3's. Of course there is always the option of buying their DC-2, but at $65 (without a connector) I am sure I could build one for about a third of the price. So I would like to get all of your thoughts on my design and components. Basic design is put one of theses 3.3v 1A voltage regulators: (specs here: http://www.dimension...oducts/de-sw033) inside two of these AA adapter shells ( somehow glued together and the inside sides notched out to fit the regulator) Attach my wires, terminate with my connector and call it a day? Can it be that simple? About $20 including ship…

From time to time I have needed a battery operated speaker and made do with some small off the shelf powered speaker. I have a fairly extensive junk part room so I was able to keep the cost down. The speaker is a small two driver Teac speaker from that auction place. The preamp and amplifier also came from there. I chose to go with V mount batteries because I am invested in that system and the is a D tap on the battery plate giving an additional source of power. You could use any of the small camera batteries out there as mounts are readily available. 1/8", 1/4" TRS and XLR inputs go to the line level preamp, then to a 60w class D amp. An additional bluetooth recei…

Hi, Here is my DIY BDS. It has 5 switches which are wired like this : 1) Master switch : activate all the other switches + voltage/current display + back usb output (to charge tablet/phone for wingman) 2) one Hirose for recorder 3) two Hirose for wireless mic and IFB 4) One hirose + one DC jack for video monitors and other stuff 5) One USB output (for a small light or a fan : I live in west Africa) It has 2 inputs : -1 hirose -1 dc jack I am mainly using modded Talentcell battery, so I can use and charge the battery at the same time. The voltage is regulated at 12V. Each output is…

Does anyone know of any low profile or right angle connectors that fit the Remote Audio BSD? The only ones I can find are these ones which are very long and not great in a bag. Extra point if you can give me a link or part number [emoji6]. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
