Just curious if there is a small size product available or better yet if anyone has done a DIY project for sequencing power to devices from battery distribution. I am finding in a particular situation now that if I could flip the switch and then program power to a specific device to turn on 15 seconds later, it would work wonders. I have a furman M8S At home that sort of triggered the idea of it.

Ok so I am debating making a powering cable to go to my bds to a H4n for a job I have coming up next week and am wondering what I am getting myself into. I do not have the unit here and don't know the voltage it takes for input and am assuming it is closer to a 9 than the 12 that is output by the BDS. Has anybody here built one? If so what kind of witchcraft will I have to do to make this work? EDIT. Ok so I finally found the specs for the dc in and it is a 5v jack and am going to assume that it will therefor not play nice with 12v power. So the question becomes what do I need to do to cut 12v to 5 volts.

So long story short, I purchased a really cool little mixer last year, a Studer / Revox 6 channel jobbie that is supposed to have super sweet preamps and all types of direct outputs, slate ability, etc... For some reason that is beyond the scope of this conversation, it is stuck on the mainland and not sure that it will ever get to me. The purpose of this mixer was to handle cart based work, like if I ever did a feature. Needless to say, I'm starting my very first feature in less than a month. So being the broke sound mixer I am, I looked around to see what I could do with little $. I found the Behringer 1002B and the Peavy RQ200 (which is apparently the design that …

I'd like to replace my ENG multicable with a new one. I'd prefer to make a star quad multicable. What's the thinnest, most flexible (also in cold weather) 3 or 4 core cable?

Hi all, Did a search for "soldering" but didn't find a recommendation for a basic soldering gun/iron kit for a novice repair. I've got an ever growing pile of good cables that I'd love to fix - mainly 1/4 " guitar cords and XLR mic cables. Is there a good soldering kit that you'd recommend? In the meantime, back to the Youtube videos to learn more :-)) Thanks for your kind advice. Keep well, Dave

I need to make an access hole into a pocket on an AO-1X; is there a better way than just making an X incision with a razor? I really don't understand why there isn't a passthrough between the outer side pockets and the battery pockets. This would allow cables to run from the RF pocket though the battery pocket and into the main body.

Greetings JWS, I finally get a new one. I've usually seen this one used on benches for soldering, electronics and related. I like it, especially the magnifier, but what do you use? Is there anything better, newer, or updated?..or perhaps a DIY/Mod that you like? I know this is one place I might find a really unique answer. Thanks for any input.

Has anyone ever removed a capsule from a Beyer M58? I've just had one through from Ebay and noticed a slight rattle in the head. Sounds like something is very slightly lose just below the capsule. I'm worried about removing the capsule though as I have form in destroying things that I'm trying to repair. Looks pretty simple though, the capsule looks to be held in position by a rubber shockmount diaphragm. I think it probably just pulls out but I don't want to force it and break something while I still have the chance of sending it back. Any suggestions?

I'm traveling around with my peli air 1637 case and would love to have a 4 wheel kit for this case. It seems the Peli 0500 castor wheel kit not compatible with this case, so I'm thinking to make wheel plates and attach swivel wheels. I think I can install 4 wheels and only drill in the bottom handle parts and original wheel holders and rather not drill in the bottom of my case. Would you recommend small 3 inch or big wheels 10 inch for a case that weighs 33kg (73 pounds) full for going on planes and trains and curbs in between? And for the cab rides in between, it could be handy that the wheels are quickly removable. All advice and experi…

I'm going soon to Qatar to film a documentary that is pretty much Qatar in the eyes of a blind man. Yes i did write it correctly so you can imagine how important sound is and specially atmospheres. So i wanted to buy a binaural mic that i could record some nice atoms with during shoot and after. As mostly is going to be during the shoot, i wanted something small and unobtrusive as i am by myself. Surround mic was a nice idea, but neither budget or space allow for it, and the only small one (Sanken WMS-5) is not available to rent in the UK. Looking at good small binaural microphones, i realised most are just two good omnis tweaked and positioned to work as 1 ste…

I built some dipole whip antennas today thanks to the help here with the lectro video posted. came across this along the way: curious to know if anyone has used anything like this with a qifb transmitter or similar for zaxcom ifb's? i use my erx's for tc and camera guides but i have dropped the use of erx's as headsets with bag use because i havent been able to get successful range without many dropouts compared to my comteks. this seemed appropriate to try but wanted to see if anyone else has had success lately with smaller antenna rigs like this or other options. -Ken

Hi everyone , I need to built few cables for BlackMagic Pocket 6k Camera to feed audio from Sennheiser RX to Camera (it has TA3-M connector and can also provide +48V) Mini jack TRS ——> TA3-M I feel that normal wiring 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 would not work. That I would need to solder it as most Sennheiser RX where XLR end has negative and ground connected. Positive (2) connected to the TRS tip . whats your thoughts ?

I've recently picked up an HMA for a project and will be making a couple low profile cables to go from the mic end to the plug on which will be at the top of the pole. Whats your preferred cable gauge for this? Already have some Canare L-4E6S, but was considering a thinner gauge star quad cable for an even smaller profile. Would the thicker cable gauge provide better shielding against potential RF interference? Im sure it has its plus's for being more resistant to wear and tear. Curious as to what others have been doing.

I have a K-Tek KE-79 and I want to internally coil cable it. I have bought the threaded XLR to fit in the base of the pole (Switchcraft part B3MAUH) but I'm wondering when install it, what kind of strain relief should I have where the internal cable joins the XLR connector? I imagine that when the boom is extended with the spring-like coiled cable it would put quite a bit of strain on the solder joints. I was thinking of putting a piece of plastic tubing around the terminals and fill it with epoxy to hold the cable in place. However this means the connector is no longer serviceable. Would you recommend using something softer that is removable such as silicone or hot-melt …

Has anyone tried to replace a boom pole grip? I've got a very much used Rode boom sitting in a corner of my loft which I'm thinking about bringing back to action as a secondary boom. The grip is quite worn out though. Would anyone recommend something else to replace it with? Is it replaceable really?

I have been kicking around the idea of adding a boom pole holder to my multi cart probably through the mounting holes already in the frame. I thought there had already been a thread on this but I don't see it. So what are your suggestions for a low-ish profile holder for a single pole on a collapsable cart. Also thinking of adding a light stand holder for a couple of the large fold flat Matthew's stands. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/644444-REG/Manfrotto_1004BAC_Alu_Master_3_Riser.html I have actually found myself using one of these more often than my c stand for booming sit-down interviews due to the larger base which requires less shot to secure.…

Hi you all. I have a VDB boompole (carbon fibre) and it is around 10 years old, it is not new but it was working perfectly until... one of the inner thread (the one glued to the fibre tube, not the one that you hold with the hand to tight or loose for adjust the boompole extension) got unstick, so I can´t tight one of the boompole sections. How can I fix it? I think that glueing carbon fibre with metal should need some kind of special glue, I´m afraid to use any glue that will damage the boompole. I would appreciate any advice or experience thanks and regards

If you can do it yourself then you should just do it. In my case, Chinhda did not have the time or the desire to make the one off bracket that I wanted to have for my little Cooper CS-306. I wanted to be able to mount the Deva attached to the mixer so I could carry it as an all in one for mobile work, insert car work, etc. So, I made the bracket myself, took me a few hours and $28.00 in parts and material. It will get the job done and I did it myself. The angle of the photo makes it look as if the Deva is over-powering the mixer, and it is to a certain extent but the whole rig is very stable and a relativley small footprint. At some point in the future I imagine I ma…

For people with custom carts and BMX tires (12 or 20inch), what are you using for brakes? Before I make a bracket to mount an actual BMX/MTB brake, is there anything else you guys have been using? My cart right now is a "PSC-style" inspired cart made from 80/20 T-slot extrusions. I have some sweet 80's BMX 20" mag wheels on it. I had to remove the front wheel brakes when a nut fell off during a film. They didn't work so well anyway. This is an old setup, but the cart/wheel configuration is about the same:
