I'd like to make my own adaptor cable to interface with the intercom system on the Goodyear Blimp. I've asked them for technical details and am awaiting a reply. Just curious if anyone here has recorded dialogue on the blimp and what they used. They've told our line producer that most crews tap into the system because the motors are so loud. A search of this board revealed a discussion about helicopter intercoms but I don't know if it applys. As a back up I could use a lav in the ear cup as mentioned in that thread. I also see that Remote Audio makes adaptor cables but I don't want to buy one for this one time use. Since I'll be in Pasadena I could also rent somet…

AS NOTED BELOW, any use of this information in entirely AT YOUR OWN RISK and may damage your equipment. Being a huge nerd I simply had to try connecting in to my SRc via serial. I haven't had any luck finding a command reference from Lectro but I've been able to get it talking to my mac over USB, and I've figured out the serial equivalents of most of the menu items. I'll attach what I've found so far. The things I can't yet get to happen are IR sync, scanning, and smart tune. Some or all of this may be wrong, this is just an afternoon's hacking project. Feel free to correct me where needed. SRc (1).txt

I'd like to connect an MKE2-5 mic (with pigtails) to an XLR connector. There's a red, blue and shield within the MKE2-5 cable but I can't find any definitive wiring diagram to connect an XLR connector to it. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

The first thing I ever used to carry audio gear was a small tool bag. Recently I needed something bigger and decided to follow the trend. I then got together with my father on a way to add a boom pole holder to it and viola. The bag was bought in Homedepot and the extra material where bought at Lowes. It aint perfect but it works.

Hello all, I’ve been attempting to find a 2 conductor shielded cable that can fit down the Lemo 3 pin crimp ferrule. Does anyone know of such a cable? I cant seem to find a supplier with search filtering that declares a OD for outer jacket overall diameter. Best, Alex

I have a couple of questions about direct output mods for a mixer I have. I hope someone can give me a little more insight. The mixer is a JVC mi2000u. I've contacted JVC and they no longer provide support for this old beast. My plan was to tap the hot signals from the PFL switch, and was told by a former teacher and electronics guru to ground as close to or on the power supply, and I could even ground to the main output if need be. I was going to use a 9 pin d-sub with a breakout on the other side, as I've seen others here use. The advice I got was to use a heavier gauge wire from the ground of the power supply to the dsub on the back panel because: "Any c…

Hi everyone, I just bought the mixpre 10t ii last week, and on my first shoot (which got canceled before it even began, no less) I somehow managed to shear off the exterior of the headphone connector. No idea how this happened, and my headphone's 1/8" jack is not bent or damaged either. See the attached photos. SD offered to fix it, but I won't have a recorder for 2 weeks and would have to pay for inbound shipping. They alternatively offered to send me a replacement part, but were specific in not being able to offer guidance on how to DIY the repair, which is understandable. Rather than take it to a reseller for repair and spend ~$75-150, I was won…

Whenever my Loon pole gets wet, I take it apart and dry it. But I've never paid much attention to the wing until it crapped out on me last week. Turns out the MXLR was quite corroded. Now that I think about it, it does make sense; pointed up as it is, it's much more susceptible to the elements than other poles. Other than having to Dremel off one of the two protruding guides along the circumference to match the original XLR, it's an easy repair. An ounce of prevention...

Asking as I encountered someone who was using the grommeted sides of two BBG's, taped together, to make something that would cover a pair of Sennheiser MKH 800's for DMS or Blumlien use. It struck me one could possibly use a single BBG and mount a second grommet, and I wonder how treacherous an operation that might be. I don't know what happens when you pierce the internal fabric, nor how fragile the frame is under cutting pressure, getting the grommet mounted, etc. I'm told Rycote won't sell a version like this, likely doesn't meet their desired protection spec. You could of course do this with a standard longer mono windscreen, but I'm thinking about something w…

3 camera dinky cam shoot on Sat....split tracks to the A cam...the cameraperson has ONE Lectro 100 and ONE Senn G2. So had to build a 5 pin XLR(SQN mini mixer) to a TA5F for the left channel, and a locking mini plug for the right channel!!!!!!!!!!!!! B cam gets a mono of both, so that is easy, mini to mini to another G2! C cam gets nothing. All backed up on my PMD 660 just because I have one more output left. OH BOY!!!!!!

would I best choose to go from XLR to RCA? I'm looking to make cables to go out from a Wendt mixer, line in to a Tascam HD-p2. (Tascam's XLR's are mic only) Thanks, Scott

Chap on another list was asking about something like this. I put one together this afternoon from bits and pieces. Black Rapid Fasten R-3, thread converter (1/4" to 3/8") and a snap-hook. I know a length of shot-cord is cheaper, but this seemed like an elegant solution. Best wishes, John

I just use the hell out of my 744s (the "Telecaster" of file recorders), but a situation came up where I needed 4 discrete analog outs of the 4 channels to be able to do a quick mix during playback of some takes (be able to drop channels out, change level relationships). The 744 has only 1 2-chan analog output bus. A long while back I mentioned the Gefen DIGAAUD DAC--which will take the AES out of the 744's Output bus #2 (digital only) and convert it to analog (while running on DC--w/ supplied PSU or a homebrew battery pack w/ 4 AAs). This worked out great yesterday--I got my 4 analog outs with each channel split out. The Gefen box is cheap and tiny--a little over an …

Hi All, So I was approached about building a 7 pin lemo cable to go between a redrock basestation and a microremote torque motor. My guy wants a thin, flexible cable, which is all well and good - however Redrock inform me that the current draw of the microremote motor can be up to 0.7 amps. I'm pretty sure that rules out using a nice thin 5core AWG33 w/sheild cable from mogami. Anyone got any magic, problem solving knowledge of a 2mm OD 5 core + shield cable stock that is rated for 0.7 amps? Apologies if any of this is gobbledygook - I'm not fully conversant when it comes to cameras. I've been looking online for a while for a suitable cable stock but thought …

If the diagram attached is clear I'm trying to make a custom coiled/bungee cable with three RG58 BNCs and a 4 pin XLR F to XLR F. Trew audio says they cannot make this cable which means I definitely need to find a way to make it now.

I read somewheres that pin 3 should be tied to pin 1 ground, or floated all together for certain devices, saying that the cable can act as an antenna, etc. Cant seem to find an answer to one or the other as to which is best when wiring cables for senny transmits as camera links. Anyone have any insight? And on that note, any info on what to do with pin 3 in general umbalanced connections? kp

So I got a 3D printer and I have a few ideas regarding sound related prints. I'm using G3s for sending audio to cameras which I usually place in the side mounted pouches of my OR30. But those pouches are to big for G3s and I had a few fall over. So I came up with this. This is going to be field tested in the next few days. I already know that this is going to be a bit weak since this is a first draft PLA print but I was wondering what are your thoughts on this project and if you had any ideas to improve upon that idea. Just so you know this is not a commercial project and this will probably end up on Thingiverse.

I'm looking at what could be a good deal on some 4061s that are hardwired to Sennheiser TRS, and I'd like to redo them in Senn/AudioLtd/Wisy/Lectro SSM-compatible 3-pin Lemo. From what I've researched a bit, one would need the right connector to get the right cable diameter for the strain relief to work properly. Any clues on the right connector and a European source?
