Fury is happy to relate that he has successfully synched TC, from ERX TCD, ver 1.33 to RED Epic Dragon @ voltage output 2.0 or >, from ERX. Voltage output of 1.0 gives intermittent connection only and then only after first synching at 25 or> and stepping down. Subsequent cold boots of either or both pieces gives no joy at that voltage. All this after new Dragon Firmware 5.2.28 - no previous version was successful @ 23.98. Fury can also relate that the 2.0 volt synch maintained for, at least, several minutes, before the celebration began... Thanks Howy and Glen, from Zaxcom and Mark, et al., from RED. There is now joy in Mudville and as…

The Client and Producers were all a bit upset today as the monitors they were watching were so badly out of/behind sync the sound on their Comtecs that they had to stop using them. Does anyone know any way I can delay the sound only using a 744T and a 442 in a portable rig? The dialogue goes out of the 442 into a lectro IFB transmitter. Alternatively, does anyone know if there is a way to speed up the image being outputted from the Epic into two LCD monitors? Even after proving that there was no delay in the sound and that the monitors oe Epic were behind, they still didn't believe me. Lucky the Clients and Producers were close enough to hear without using…

Worked with one of these the last couple days. Apparently you cannot jam 23.98 into camera? Could receive and could jam 29.97. Just giving a heads up and wondering I anyone else has experienced this?

Starting a project with Red Scarlet next month. Plannng to use Ambient clockit for camera. red store has adaptor cable with 3 BNCs and a (what appears to be) 4 pin Lemo. Anybody have any sources for a 5pin Lemo to 4 pin Lemo cable to connect clockit to Scarlet, or is this a custom part? don't need GPI trigger/ genclock on this project. Any experience with the Red branded cable? Chris Newton

Hey guys! After an afternoon of testing I wanted to share some settings that worked well with a BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera in various scenarios. I have one done right now and I'll hopefully get more time to sort out the others. Scenario 1: BMPCC + Tascam DR-60D To get a good signal out of the pair you need to use the following settings: DR-60D: 1. Use the Line Out instead of the Camera Out. The hotter signal works much, much better with the BMPCC. 2. Crank the Line Out level to 10. BMPCC: 1. Set the input level to Line. 2. Adjust inputs 1 & 2 to 15%. That should give you a proper connection between the two. You'll have to do some more setting up …

Hey all, Does the touch monitor for the epic have an inherent 2 frame delay? While jamming the camera, I noticed the slate was reaching the next second slightly before the TC display on camera, while the jam cable was in. So I took a picture of the slate and the TC on the display, and sure enough the Epic was 2 frames behind the even while the jam cable was plugged in. This is the first day of the show so I can not yet check any footage afterwards to see if the sync is off. And if all else fails and there is a delay, then I'll just write a note explaining it needs to be moved 2 frames. Camera and production knows, and it's not really an issue, it's more for my educati…

I googled this a lot but have not found a definitive answer: If you shoot PAL 24p on 5D mark3 and NTFS 24(23.98) on any other hd cam, and both are exact same start/stop times and exact same audio/footage- will there be any difference? My 5D mark3 has PAL and NTFS system settings, and they both offer 24p- is there a difference? What's the difference between PAL 24p and NTFS 24p? I understand PAL is 50hz and NTFS is 60hz, And I get that PAL likes 25fps because it is easily divisible into 50, and NTFS likes 30, or 23.976 with a pull-down because that can be divided into 60. But 24 into 50? Are the base times (50, 60) no longer an issue in HD? If there …

Anybody work with these? According to the web (cameramen) blogs they are quiet. I would be grateful for any shared experience. Here's the quote: "The SR3 Advanced had a noise specification of between 20 dbA and 22 dbA. The 416 has a noise specification of below 20 dbA. This was accomplished by using rubber insulators to hold the camera body's inner skeleton and by having the internal skeleton of the magazine also held by rubber insulators. The magazine is also not driven anymore by a gear from the camera, but by its own silent motor. Running the camera containing a 400 foot load running at 24 fps, I had to press my ear against the side of the camera to tell if it …

Quick question, on set right now and we're wondering; When the camera rolls 50 fps and the sound 25 fps is the first frame of video/audio in sync? In otherwords does the audioclip sync with the videoclip on the first frame? Thanks!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Granted, the death of film has been reported pretty much every year for the last decade, and I've grown accustomed to laughing it off. But somehow, this feels like the first real nail in the proverbial coffin: http://www.salon.com/2011/10/13/r_i_p_the_movie_camera_1888_2011/singleton/ Now once Kodak and Fuji stop manufacturing celluloid...

The Canon C 300 has a switch for Time Code in or out, is a XF 305 the same? Are the Time Code circuits indentical in the two cameras? or is Canon making something different... I'm thinking about jamming Sound Devices Time Code through 216 Comteks on two XF 305, I would be recording...BUT have read XF 305 only takes 29.97 ND, can anyone confirm or deny that too?

Hi All, When syncing the audio the picture there is a sync drift of 1 frame each hour. So at the end of an 8 hour day the audio is 8 frames off sync. I put the lock it on the F3 and connect the timecode + genlock. Yesterday I brought my R4 + lock it to my dealer and they experienced an sync drift off 1/2 frames each hour. They corrected it but today I got the same problem... The problem seems the same with different F3 camera's. We sync in QT/bwf merge. Anyone experienced something like this? I'm working on a shoot with a C300, 1D-C and 5d. I'm recording to 664, sending audio and TC to C300 hardwire, and sending a mono scratch track to 1D-C and 5d via lectro 401. C300 and 5d are fine, but 1D-C is failing to record the scratch track. I'm sending it line level (as per 1D-C menu). The level setting menu sees tone but upon playback there is no sound. We've managed to work around it by keeping the 1D -C close and opening camera mic, but obviously, this won't work all the time. Has anybody experienced similar problems?

So my partner is one of the first 12 people to receive the first shipment of the Black Magic 4k camera. We've tried some lenses out and I must say the imagery is stellar. Looking for anyone with information on the audio for this camera. We are discussing going into the camera with a breakaway cable from a location mixer. Looking for any info on audio quality of the camera, timecode and syncing issues. We will be doing some experiments in the next few days. An insight is appreciated.

Howdy men, Last gasp just in case: Sending a scratch track to 2 canon xf 305's using a Sennheiser g2 system. Is there any way of adjusting the auto mode sensitivity on the camera? Both the top mic and the scratch I'm sending are smashing into the red. Normally this wouldn't be necessary as you'd be mixing but have the added quirk that there is no mixer on this show. Long story. Gain structure up until the camera is correct all though if someone's found a modified way the works that isn't by the book I'd be interested in hearing it. I thought since I have taken so much from this forum I should give something back. My ERX2TCD would not jam an Alexa the other day with a custom lemo/5pin xlr split cable I made. The problem turned out to be not enough voltage coming from the ERX2TCD's default timecode output voltage of .062. This was enough voltage to pass the test of jamming my 664, but not enough for the camera. Here's the fix: enter the extended menu by powering down the receiver and power up while holding the menu button, scroll though the options by pressing the menu button until you get to the "TC Output Level" menu. Use the arrows to turn it up to 0.250. Hope this helps someone. cheers, An…

I recently recorded some interviews in quiet rooms that were shot on a C300. The interviews took a few hours each. After some time, with the room heating up from the lights, I noticed the camera getting louder, fan noise or something similar to what we know from Red cameras that aren't set to quiet mode. I quickly went through the camera menu but couldn't find any such setting comparable to Red or Alexa quiet modes. The DP didn't know either. Is there such a setting?
