Greetings all, Just a heads up on issues relating to sync in the latest Red Epic Firmware Version 4.0.12 Even with a timecode box riding the camera, this build of the Epic firmware will "Slip" timecode up to 2-3 frames either on Plus or Minus of what shows up on the Slate. The Actual Timecode shown in RedCine-X and what's shown on the slate are off. The Editor is having the "Slip" the audio into sync for editorial which will cause an issue later down the pipeline when attempting to conform back in Protools and the "Rouge" timecode of the video clips will cause my Production Audio to be out of sync. The editor is now logging each clips "Offset" which will hopefully be abl…

hey everyone, just started a new job with the F55 camera, and noticed a fan noise coming from the camera. its inconsistent, but very noticeable. especially on a quiet scene in a small room. production sent out an email to Panavision, who rented us the camera. this was their reponse. "The cooling fan noise heard on the F55 is coming from the RAW recording module on the back of the camera. The internal fans in the camera do turn off when recording however because of the heat generated during data transfer from the RAW recorder to the AXSM card the internal fan in the RAW module cannot fully turn off during recording. It does run at the slowest speed necessar…

Hello, long time lurker here, and thank you for a great forum. I'll cut to the chase: I just came home from a C300 shoot, SD 664 directly to camera. I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing a little hiss on the C300 return feed, and reading the forum posts, I reckon this is a common thing. I stumbled upon an unpleasant story of someone having a days work ruined by this "ch-1 goes to ch-2" setting, I did not check for such a setting today, and had no time for playback check, so just to be 100% sure: If I'm getting two separate channels in the return feed from the C300 headphone output, the C300 will in fact record those two seperate channels, am I right?…

I recently worked on a feature shot on an Epic using a Bartech wireless follow focus that made a very annoying intermittent, constantly changing motor noise that I picked up anytime the camera was close to talent. Has anyone else had this issue? We had our rental house bring another follow focus of the same digital model but that also had the same issue. Our steadicam op had his own analog model that did not make significant noise. I build a cover for it that cut down the sound somewhat. I hope I don't have to deal with this again.

I am on a Live event shoot and we need all of the cameras to be in sync for Multicam editing(no sound). The DP wants to roll the cameras at 59.94fps. I will be mounting Denecke SB-T lockit boxes onto the cameras. 1.Is it possible for the RED to record video at 59.94fps, while also stamping the file with a 29.97fps timecode from the SB-T? 2. if it is not, what is the best option to be able to make sure all of the REDs are in sync with frame accuracy? 3. Also, the video is being recorded in Camera, and NOT live streaming, do I need to send the Cameras GenLock? Thank you Jordan

Working with this camera today, well equipped for a small camera, BNC genlock/timecode in. Using the 30p frame rate option, manual makes no mention of 29.98. Does anyone know if this means it is true 30fps

Ikegami and ARRI Introduce the HDK-97 ARRI Broadcast Production Camera with Digital Cinema Image Quality A powerful marriage of technology between two recognized industry leaders, the HDK-97ARRI is a broadcast-style production camera with digital cinema characteristics. In a significant development, the HDK-97ARRI makes it possible to employ a large format sensor in multiple camera operation. The result is a “best of both worlds” image acquisition system ideal for use in multi-camera studio and field applications, including conventional broadcast camera operation and classic video operator control of multiple cameras. Hey guys! I'm starting a shoot shortly with the XDCAM, wondering if I can get 2 channels of audio from the Lectro SRSNY adapter? Or rather, will the camera accept 2 channels? I heard from somewhere that the camera only accepts one input unless it's a Sony receiver. Of course the source of that information is now hazy, I can't find any information to neither confirm nor deny in the user manual, so I thought it best to ask here. Kind regards, Eren.

I stopped by the RED booth at NAB a couple times to inquire. But the dudes behind the counter didn't have many specifics. Here's a picture of the REDLINK products: I'm particularly curious about REDSYNC MASTER. IIRC, the minimal info on red.com remains the same from a while ago: ===== With the REDsync Master, your cameras will all be synchronized wirelessly to reduce clutter and improve efficiency. Send wireless timecode and audio to one or more Meizler-connected DSMC brains, without worrying about excess cables or timecode drift slowing your shoot down. With the ability to genlock and start/stop multiple cameras all at once, REDsync Master delivers th…

So I just got hired for a one day shoot next Thursday. They will be using a Red Scarlet and they want to record to the camera. In looking at the manual, it appears that the Scarlet only takes mic level 3.5mm unbalanced inputs. Is that right? Can anyone share their experiences with me in recording directly to the Scarlet? Thanks, Mike

It seems that Red is coming with a new fan speed algorithms to be make their camaras more "sound friendly" So instead of having the fans come on full blast they will get progressivley louder the longer the take is. For sure it looks better for short takes but for longer takes more than 3 minutes not so sure if that will be so much better... http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?97198-Epic-Fan-Speed-Sound-Algorithms

After searching all the Alexa threads here and reading the manual I have a quick question which remains unanswered. Does the Alexa record the audio inputs when it's frame rate is increased for slow-mo shots? I seem to remember a reference to the audio being 'blocked' (not recorded) when this happens but cannot find anything about it. Thanks.

On a shoot today the DP had a Canon 5D MkII. Audio was sent wireless to camera via a Sennheiser EW100 G3. Good audio levels were showing up on the audio screen of the 5D, but audio was not recorded onto the CF card. Picture was fine. Internal camera mic worked as well. No problems with the hop or cables, and the meters were reading good input level on the camera. Super strange... Anybody run into this problem in the field? BTW, audio was captured on the SD664 with ease!!! Steve Wytas www.audio911.com

I am working on a film that is shooting on Red Epic using an Element Technica wireless follow focus. After troubleshooting all my gear I realized it was the follow focus motors on the camera that was the cause of a constant, high pitch squeal. I can't seem to find any information about how to fix it. I have even taken the sound files into Pro Tools and it doesn't seem like a simple EQ or noise reduction fix, so I'd love to fix the problem at the source. I've seen on other brands you can reset the calibration to solve to problem. If this is the case with this brand and anyone knows how to perform this recalibration that would be super helpful. Or if the solution is somethi…

Today w/ 2 Alexas, firmware v7. @ Prep DIT set the cameras up to record the L input to both the right and left channels (please--stop helping me!). After being momentarily confused I got into the menus and changed the settings for the R channel to record the R input. But on both cams it only SORT OF made the change. The Right channel was hearing the R input audio, but also a lot of L channel audio as well, at a lower level. The L channels were fine. BOTH cameras did this until we rebooted them, and then they were fine--correct channel assigns without changing any settings. philp

So I think I read on here somewhere that Vincent la Foret had an announcement for a new revolutionary product ... That product is Movi; http://m.gizmodo.com/5993678/this-new-camera-stabilizer-could-change-cinematography-forever?utm_medium=referral&utm_source=pulsenews Sorry for the mobile link.. Looks cool. And it will also mean that we probably can't mount shit to DSLRs, which means that double system will be the standard for DSLR. Given of course this product really hits the market..

Hello everyone, I was hoping you could do me a big favour... For my final year project at university I made a series of promotional videos using both Digital SLR's and HDV camcorders. In my report I need some secondary research... That's where you guys come in. Basically all I need you to do is watch this video which shows the Canon 7D and the XHA1 in a series of test shots. Then pick which camera you felt performed best overall and why. You'd be helping me out a lot and if there's anything I can do to return a favour I will! Thanks! Tom.

Just seen a press release from Arri, with some updates to the Alexa line... including: "Super silent XT Fan ALEXA cameras are already among the quietest digital cameras, but an even quieter fan has become available and ARRI has incorporated this new fan into the ALEXA XT models, providing an extra safety margin in very quiet or very hot environments. " Here's the press release in full: http://www.arri.com/press/press_english/press_release.html?tx_ttnews%5Btt_news%5D=1139&tx_ttnews%5BbackPid%5D=1781&cHash=76b7993af43e4f9d6b1ba5033a07bbc8
