Alexa Mini TC sync 1 2 3 4 6

I'm starting a movie in a week that is shooting on the Alexa Mini. I'm going to be using my ERXs for TC sync/ scratch audio. Does anyone have experience with the TC clock on the Mini? There are a lot of Movi shots they are trying to do and wanted to know if they needed the sync box. I told them yes for now, but if the TC clock is the same as the Alexa, then it shouldn't be much of an issue.

I have heard that it is next to impossible to get sound onto a Red Epic. What is the deal with that? Has anyone succeeded? If so, then how did you do it? I would like to attach a Lectrosonics IFB to the camera, seta level, and walk away. Is that possible ? ? Somebody suggested that I try this adapter: http://actionproducts.ch/shop/product_info.php?products_id=157 Action Products Epic Audio Adapter

http://www.arri.de/news/arri-amira-unveiled/ Arri announced a new documentary style camera. Wow! There's no specification on the audio inputs yet, but it looks like they could be TA3 connectors. Maybe that's a question for Bash to ask at the IBC? Looks nice! I've always longed for a camera to replace the XDCAMs in the ENG world. Maybe that day finally has come...

I did my first shoot on one of these today. A few things to note: 1) There's some kind of internal level setting, from 0 to 99, that seems to override the pots on the side. Presumably it's so the operator can fiddle with levels with his thumb (I didn't have time to check). You can disable it in the audio input menu, from memory it's something like "LVL + SIDE 1" and "LVL + SIDE 2". I switched it to SIDE 1 and 2 only (this disables the level control). 2) As with the F5 and F55, it forgets if the headphones are mono or stereo. So you have to go back into the menu and change it from one to the other to get it to "remember". 3) I couldn't find a timecode sock…

I went through the menu on this camera, went to the audio section, but couldn't find any audio recording settings. Where in the heck do you change the audio sampling rate to 24 bit, 48kHz?

I wanted to touch base on some of the sound-related threads going on over on the Red User group (Reduser.net), some of which have direct applications to mixers having to deal with timecode and sound inputs to the camera. Most of these discussions apply to both the Red Epic and the Red Scarlet, which are essentially the same camera, operating at different data rates (and with a $20,000 price difference). Here are some highlights: Epic Phantom Power (which does not yet work) Random Audio Level Dropouts (said to be the fault of the bypassable limiter) Low-Level Hum with Epic (caused by groundloop issues with the camera's AC adapter) Fan Noise a Probl…

Starting a project with Red Scarlet next month. Plannng to use Ambient clockit for camera. red store has adaptor cable with 3 BNCs and a (what appears to be) 4 pin Lemo. Anybody have any sources for a 5pin Lemo to 4 pin Lemo cable to connect clockit to Scarlet, or is this a custom part? don't need GPI trigger/ genclock on this project. Any experience with the Red branded cable? Chris Newton

Hi, I'd like to get a scratch track into the Arri Alexa. It has a 5 pin xlr connector and I thought it would be as simple as getting a 5 pin to 3 pin adapter and then plugging in a mic. However, I was told because it is a line level input that it is more complicated than that? This is what the manual says "2-channel analog line-level audio can be fed to the camera via the 5-pin XLR connector located at the front of the camera on the camera-right side." I'm not an audio guy, so I'm not sure what is needed, but all I want is a reference track in the footage even if it's not the greatest quality. Thanks

Sony has introduced two new models in their Cine Alta-series of cameras, F5 and F55. F5 is a significant upgrade over F3. F55 is positioned below F65 in the product line. The audio inputs and timecode are on separate modules. IMHO, they really did their homework on this one. I think that these will sell like hot cakes. To quote: "The connections you need The camera offers vital connections, including four HD-SDI jacks, HDMI®, USB, DC IN connection, a removable XLR audio module and a removable time code/genlock module. The XLR inputs accept balanced analog signals, provide 48-Volt phantom power and will accept four channels of AES/EBU digital audio wi…

So I just got hired for a one day shoot next Thursday. They will be using a Red Scarlet and they want to record to the camera. In looking at the manual, it appears that the Scarlet only takes mic level 3.5mm unbalanced inputs. Is that right? Can anyone share their experiences with me in recording directly to the Scarlet? Thanks, Mike

Hi all, I got a shoot with a Canon C300 coming up and had a question about the TC output of the camera. Looking in the manual, it states: "The user bit of the time code signal is output while the camcorder is recording in CAMERA mode or during playback of a clip in MEDIA mode." [79] The camera will be set to generate Free Run time code, not Rec Run, so in theory, the TC output should be outputting a constant feed of time code. However, given the above statement, I wonder if along with User Bits, time code is also not outputted unless the camera is recording? I ask because I am planning on setting up a TC Buddy TX from camera, to a TC Buddy Master in my…

Hi guys, i'm on a show with alot of driving so we have rigged one of the trucks with a timecode slate and i have split the audio input on the go pro's to put linear timecode on track 1 and scratch track audio on track 2. Everything is powered of the truck through an inverter so we dont lose power. we are also powering the gopro's off an inverter. for some reason when we tested it this evening there was a colour grain on the gopro footage. it appears the timecode is freaking out the gopro's picture. it seems unlikely but we've looked at most of the other components and it seems to be the only solution? Why would audio freak out the video signa…

I am going to Myanmar on a job on Thursday and was just informed that we are using this Brand New Sony Camera. I went to check it out today and noticed that there is no timecode input on the camera itself. It's on an Extensions Unit (XDCA-FS7) not included in the package, that connects to the camera via a multipin connector. Obviously, this unit is not something we can get before Monday and may have to be ordered by the rental house. Does anyone have experience with this camera and the extension unit? I'm planning to feed sound to the camera, either hardwired or wireless depending on conditions and situation and record on my SD633. One of my questions is: Can we jam…

Here's a lame feature of the Sony Venice that the Sound Department should know about. Timecode can be input at the BNC TC-in, but cannot be output there (What was TC-I/O on 5/55 is IN only)) Timecode Out is available at the AUX 5P Lemo which looks like ARRI/Ambient Lemo std 5P, BUT TC In is not connected at the Lemo 5P., so if you were expecting to lock Venice TC via the Lemo 5P~~~~ As Tony Soprano used to say: "Fugettaboutitt" As a tribute to the Italian roots of the "Venice" can we nickname the camera "The Sony Bennett"

Hello all, I am 5 weeks or so into a TV show with the Sony Venice camera. Here's what I have discovered. It's very quiet. Very very quiet. There are simple fan settings. Four, I think. Two that are for MOS stuff or hot exteriors. Two that shut the fans off while rolling. When the camera gets hot (which is does fairly easily in warm sets and rolling resets), the fan will kick on. We think it might actually be the recorder fan versus the camera fan, but we can't really run a test in the middle of shooting, so perhaps someone in prep can do a test to see what's kicking on. Either way, it's a fan that is louder than Alexa but probably similar to RED at…

Well we have a new camera player against the RED for Movi, drone and even 3D potentially. All I’ll say is its £25k, poor camera guys. What we care about is how to get sound and timecode in the bloody thing. Had the chance to play with one (and a prototype running Amira software) and here we are. Being just a body they have kept things very tight. First let me say the fans are as low as the Alexa but exposed like the RED, again because of the small body. It even goes into a “quiet mode” when recording. I was yet to get out of them if it would slowly get louder or how it prevents overheating. The timecode is like the Amira, BNC. So nice and easy for most. No talk of thei…

Having worked with this camera for the last few months, it seems clear the camera department finds this the least objectionable of the HD systems. From my perspective, I don't run sound to it, and I had the camera house supply a pair of 1/4" to lemo jam cables so the ACs can jam the cameras from my TS3 slates, as required. The camera makes very little noise, and can roll late or cut early on multiple camera setups without making extra noise. It makes the whole thing like a film shoot for me. Only difference is the TC rate of 23.98. I love it.

I was asked to setup an Epic to jam sync to external timecode from a slate today. The timecode source menu was switched to external and the incoming timecode was verified by a green highlighted "TC" element in the main display. The timecode appeared to auto jam correctly as the Epic timecode numbers continued to count correctly after the external timecode was disconnected. What seems odd is that the manual says the camera can be placed in "Jam Sync mode" and there is a "SYNC" (Jam Sync) element on the main display but there is no description of how this actually works or under what conditions the "SYNC" element would be highlighted. Firmware 2.0.5 (current versi…

I thought since I have taken so much from this forum I should give something back. My ERX2TCD would not jam an Alexa the other day with a custom lemo/5pin xlr split cable I made. The problem turned out to be not enough voltage coming from the ERX2TCD's default timecode output voltage of .062. This was enough voltage to pass the test of jamming my 664, but not enough for the camera. Here's the fix: enter the extended menu by powering down the receiver and power up while holding the menu button, scroll though the options by pressing the menu button until you get to the "TC Output Level" menu. Use the arrows to turn it up to 0.250. Hope this helps someone. cheers, An…

Hey all, First for everything but I ran into a situation a few weeks ago where for the life of me could not jam the Red Epic. We tried two different sync boxes and two different cables. One of the cables was the 3 coloured BNC deal (yes we used the yellow one for timecode sync) and one was made by a reputable company that deals with Location Audio Products. Nothing. No green light on the TC . Someone else been running into this? The guy who owned the camera just shrugged and said he had just updated the software.. B
