  1. Along with various problems I am dealing with, the site has reset all members to "Newbie" regardless of their actual participation on the site. I am working on rebuilding the database (which will taker some time) and the correct rankings should again be displayed. This is the hope.
  2. Beautiful! Andrew Jones and Deity Microphones should be applauded for honoring the Zaxcom US Patents, and for acknowledging the innovative and pioneering products we have seen from Zaxcom, products with such a feature rich suite of game changing capabilities. Now, Deity users will legally be able to benefit from technologies protected by patents. In many industries, including ours, licensing is a vital part of developing and marketing products. Again, kudos to Deity for doing the right thing!
  3. Thank you for the heads up. -- I would never consider any of these reports as complaints. We're still working on the problem which should be solved very soon (though it is not a serious problem and it does not represent any hacking or security risks). Thank you, Jim, as always, for all your help in the past (with this site, with the r.a.m.ps./jwsound party, etc.). You are one of a handful of hero users of JWSOUND and I always appreciate your participation.
  4. Everything is back to normal. CloudFare is a service that my host server company installed to monitor activity on the site. It is primarily designed to warn if a Denial of Service attack is in progress (fraudulent, automated hits on the site done by bad cyber actors). In my case, there was no Denial of Service attack but merely a lot of activity on the site --- the parameters that CloudFlare looks for were set far too low for my site. A few othervthings happened simultaneously as I was updated to a current version of PHP and a few other things, but it is all sorted out now.
  5. Love this! What an amazingly thorough documentation of all those formats. I had personal experience with just about every one of them, watched how they gained favor then fell off, replaced by the next best thing. I did use MiniDisc quite a lot for music playback on movies -- the famous sing along in "Almost Famous" to "Tiny Dancer" I did with playback off MiniDisc.
  6. Exactly. My comment was in reply to the person who suggested the use of the CMR.
  7. -from Schoeps website: " Amplifier for pocket transmitters without phantom power ATTENTION: there are a limited number of compatible transmitters, including Sennheiser, Wisycom and others, see Downloads. Use with digital transmitters is not intended, as interference may occur."
  8. I had a long discussion with Glenn Sanders where he explained all the reasons for Zaxcom not doing slot-in receivers. Seemed to make a lot of sense regarding certain compatibility issues, powering issues, heat dissipation and quite a few other things. I do know that a lot of Sound Devices users that have gotten very used to the various add-on chassis to accommodate what they call Super Slot are hoping there will be more offerings in this form factor. It remains to be seen if Shure has found ways to alleviate some of these limitations of slot-in form factor. I know the Axient system generally has not been too concerned about power consumption and heat dissipation since their system is primarily designed as rack system in fixed installations. We'll have to see how they have dealt with this when the first portable bag friendly units arrive.
  9. I thought that it was only Zaxcom and Wysicom that had 4-channel receivers --- it is not an easy thing to do and I am pretty sure it was still a considerable challenge for Shure to get their receiver for the Axient systems in a small package. I'm wondering what they have done regarding power consumption and heat (things which are all important in a bag-based receiver), things which they are not too concerned with their rack systems.
  10. Well, this needs to be put into a time perspective --- for me, using the Cooper Mixers (starting with one of the first mixer Andy ever built, the 106) the first 30 or more movies we used very little wireless and everything was analog (no latency or delay). When I started using digital wireless (original Zaxcom fully digital wireless) I was aware of the delay but it never really seemed to pose any problem for me and my style of mixing a scene. It must have something to do with the way I mixed, or covered a scene, that I never understood the "problem" that people talked about (and still talk about, using delay in their recorder/mixer, etc.). Someone else will have a better answer for this I'm sure, but for me it was never a problem.
  11. From what I know having talked to some of the sound mixers who have worked on these things for Apple, they are very well planned, they hire talented and experienced crews (who have to be totally secretive about the work) -- I am sure they employ every technique available (including painting out booms, shooting against virtual background (like Mandalorian) and of course ADR is necessary. I'm fairly sure there is limited ADR but we would never know for sure without talking to production and post people (and they generally will not talk about stuff, Apple strict policy).
  12. Glenn Sanders had a good presentation of the new ZMT-4 transmitter with Thomas Popp of Trew Audio.
  13. I didn't have a choice, which vaccine to get, I was holding out for Johnson & Johnson (so I would only have to have one shot) but went ahead and got Pfizer (at Walgreens).
  14. I hate shots as well, never even got a flu shot for this reason, but the Covid vaccine I obviously needed to get at this time. I'm in the right age group and somewhat compromised health-wise so I finally got an appointment. What a relief -- the injection was so nothing, I didn't even feel it! I felt the nurse rub a little alcohol on my arm and then she said she was done -- I said back to her "you're done?". No real side-effects after the first dose -- maybe will have some after the second, we'll see.
  15. I haven't been able to demonstrate what you are describing (but then I rarely use my iPhone to view). On the web, all browsers, you are able to configure the stream you want to view when you select "Unread Content". Pictured below is how my set up looks. Play around with the settings and possibly you will discover a setting that works for you. You might consider checking out the site on the web with full-size browser, play with settings there and maybe it will clear things up when you use your phone. Sorry I cannot be any more help on this.
  16. Zaxcom patents cover recording transmitters without timecode I believe. In any case, paying a license, increasing the price a little bit makes everything legal. Let's hope they work something out.
  17. As I see it, and I'm not a lawyer, it is an infringement on Zaxcom's patent. My hope is thatI Zaxcom will discuss this with them and there will probably be a reasonable licensing arrangement. I don't think anybody is up for any more lawsuits.
  18. Thanks, Moe, for the detailed and personal report. I appreciate that you preface everything with the statements about subjectivity, familiarity ands personal feelings --- after all, as you know I have said many times that our EARS are our most important test instrument. What you have stated here confers very much with what I heard from others --- Wysicom stuff, analog, is very good, possibly better in many respects to it's closest competitor, but the Audio, Ltd. (as well as the Zaxcom Digital wireless) has so many advantages over any analog or so-called hybrid systems out there. My preference, which is well known, is for the Zaxcom Digital wireless --- Zaxcom has had at least a 10 year advantage over the others, developing several modulations that provide for better signal integrity over most all of the others (and of course the feature set, functions, remote control and recording capability have been very useful).
  19. Wow! I was just trying to get it together to respond to this question and then I get to read David's and Jim and John's responses! I am impressed and again grateful for their participation, their wisdom and generosity. They are what makes this site so great! Thank you.
  20. I will contact Patrushkha to get an answer for you and others in Europe who may be having trouble.

  22. LINK to Petrushkha's wonderful book, "Behind the Sound Cart" -- available now! This is a must read, for all of us, young and old, just starting out or already with a long career in sound.
  23. Chat feature will be disabled as I work on installing something which I think will work better. Thank you for your patience. I installed the Chatbox on this site many months ago but it has gotten ZERO use by any of our members. I'm not even sure it is displayed in the navigation area on the main page. Is there anyone who wants to see if it is working (and more importantly I would like to hear if this is a feature anybody will want to use). Below you will see a screenshot that shows the button in the header for the Chatbox.
