    Advice for a novice

These are a good option as I have used them with success with several projects. They look good, are portable, and quick to setup if you are in a studio environment. The only downside is cost and depending on the size of the room you may require a lot more than two. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ProMAXCHAv2--auralex-promax-v2-charcoal Here is a video on basic signal flow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-v75Mgh9dA
  2. Dave, I have had the same problem with Mixpre 10t (firmware detected/updating message). I have also received timecode errors while only using AA batteries . Sound Devices recommended to use the wall power adaptor while doing the update. I am not convinced that this made any real difference. If my recorder is left off for a period of time and then powered on I will get the message(only while using AA batteries). It seems to be an issue when using the AA batteries. I have not had the message while using my external battery (Remote Audio Hi-Q). I was worried that I may have had a bad unit but after talking to SD they assured me it was a known issue and they were working to resolve it. Dave what are you using to power your recorder?

My first Sound Design for Film

Thank you old school. The less is more approach is what I typically go for in my work. I often reiterate how powerful silence is, although there is no silence in this film, during my last few live theater designs homage was paid to John Cage.

Jay, Thank you for the response. I am currently reading Dialog Editing for Motion Pictures and I have spent more time with the actual dialog within the film. As I am going through and learning more about the process of film, I am becoming more aware of the workflow and how important the work-flow is even before the production process, much less the actual post production process. You are right about the eq and this is why implementing preview automation mode in protools is something I am excited about exploring further, particularly within the reverbs and the space of the picture. I like to hear your thoughts and learn from your experiences including others. I come from a live theatrical background and much of the workflow is new to me. Unfortunately, I was not able to be on set during the production process, but I spent a lot of time removing as much noise as possible from a near by airport. We rushed a bit on this trailer and I recorded Foley and mixed to be put online within 4hours. For my first film given the timeline and budget I am happy with what was achieved but I am always striving to do more and learn from others. I know I have a lot of knowledge to gain. Please tell me about your process when you think about characters and eq? And how much consideration do you give audience? Thank you again for taking the time to look and critique. I value your opinions.

My first Sound Design for Film

Hey guys, I have not been active on the forum for sometime because of academic studies and productions. I did collaborate recently on my first student film. I did the sound design, mixing, dialog editing, foley recording and ADR. While it is still being finessed and finishing touches are being made, I thought I would share the trailer with you. If you want to check it out, I would be grateful. The actual film is being mixed in 5.1 (subtly). This is the first time I have automated something in entirety with preview capture with both eq and reverbs. I used the avid S6 for automation with VCAs and assigned fader groups within the S6. Perhaps I will do a video in the studio setting if it is of interest to any of you. A lot of the film was shot without sound and it has been keeping me busy for the past few weeks. Thanks Harlow Click on the Link it will redirect you.

Hello all, I want to thank you for following this post and I hope we all have learned about being more careful when purchasing used items. I certainly have become more skeptical when it comes to purchasing larger items. My money was returned after small claims papers were served. Thank you for allowing me to share my story here online with you. I attended the Zaxcom event last week and met some of you. I hope you all have a great week and thank you... I must now fill an empty Rycote Super Shield.

    View From The Office:

Here is a show I designed last semester, I just saw this thread and I don't know if you guys are into theater but it was a great show. Coverage was tough in the round with all the walls and the large beam in the space, but I had a great Meyer system UPAs, UPJs, UPMs and older apogee subwoofers. If you are interested in checking out more we had a talented student video documentarian. The videos are much more interesting than my photos. http://growcloser.tumblr.com/

    I was sold a fake MKH-416

My life this past few weeks has turned into the Truman forum. I have been victimized, called names, insulted, threatened and defrauded. Posting to this forum gave me a response and hopefully protected someone doing transactions in the future with Justin Blakely. I came forward when I knew a fraud. I have had sleepless nights and put work behind because I had no choice but do what is right. I am angry, deflated yet not defeated. I decided to stand up and call out when someone among us lies and cheats. I got on this forum as a last resort and I put my reputation on the line. I am not ashamed to put my name out and my name isn’t a common one. I am disgusted and angered with what I have seen from this individual. All of this was over $700.00, for some of you it might be a drop in the bucket. That is over 77 hours of work-study for me. I purchased this microphone with the intent of taking on side projects. This issue is also about more than that. It is about doing what is right. We all are in this industry to do what we love and pursue something that enriches our lives. We should always be helping one another both as friends and colleagues. Overwhelmingly that is what I have received from this forum. I had planned on keeping the information Mr. Trew has revealed private. I am relieved that he put this information out publicly on this forum, and made a decision I didn’t have to.

This was not an ebay purchase, this was another buyer referring to Justin Blakely.

Simon, I am a victim here. I would not do anything to jeopardize Jeff or the forum. I received a response because of this forum. This is not intended to air grievance but to serve people like yourself from being victimized.

Carli, I would be happy to if I had a real 416. I believe you would be better going to the source of the fake 416. He is on this forum JboB he left a response yesterday that was removed. I believe he should repost for all to see.
