  1. My Daughter Masako from Japan came for a visit for two weeks. She came to work we me so she could practice her English and learn a little about TV production as she has never been in a studio. She really had a great time and made a lot of friends on set, even got to be an extra in a scene. Couldn't resist a picture of her on my Fisher 7.
  2. From our crew photo, we honored Sarah Jones as well.
  3. Hi Moreno, running with two 4017B s on two Fisher 7 booms on a sitcom, I would have to say they sounded great' Phil
  4. Crew, you really have some cool old pictures. Phil
  5. Scott, let me ask the powers that be at the studio if I can have some Sunday afternoon, say right after church where I can have the studio and a lighting guy to what else,,,,, light it up for me. I should be able to provide, water / good coffee / maybe some food as well. I think the studio might be into it as we like to inform and teach people how we do what we do. It is an Eye opener for sure and I would invite all members of our Sound Dept. to attend. I expect it might last 2 hours + If Marty has some " training funds" to throw at the cost of food etc., that would be good. One thing you have to clear with Marty and 891 is this is an ACFC shop, I have many brothers sisters in 891 and have no problem hosting this event, Run this by Marty and let me know. Phil
  6. Scott, maybe in the new year I will setup an event with the 891 local and have a special show and tell. Phil
  7. Ray, I have lots of 10in. metal reels if you want some. KJR
  8. A Shout Out to Art who is an EFP sound dude and got to sit on a Fisher 7 for the first time today. Art was doing an epk on the show I working on so I invited him to have a seat and take the mistress for a spin, just don't crash her. I think I made Arts day. Thanks for visit today Art.
  9. Had to transfer some tapes a while back,,, the only recordings of my Dad from the mid 80s,, . We sat down with a case of beer, MX 5050 and a u87 on him. Rolled two 10 in at 7.5. I had stored the tapes for many years and my dad had passed away, it was also the last time we were together, on playback same machine, many years later,, the tapes were toast, lucky if I could run more than 30 seconds, and the machine would not be happy. Metal flanges so I was able to put the tapes in the food dehydrator as a pancake. Gave the 5050 a bit of an over-hall,,, and transfer right in to the -computer using Adobe Audition to play with later, didn't have to play much, but did some editing. It is a lot of work to get everything up and running to it's best performance but well worth the work if you have the time, tools and experience to do so. It helps to have a friend who is and engineer and has all the tools to strip the machine and do a tune up as things go bad over time just sitting in the corner. Then there was the time I inherited the B77 and a big box of tape,,, music tape,, stuff that was recorded in the 50s / 60s. Once again the machine was torn apart relubed and everything checked out. It helped that the machine was in beautiful condition and my friend use to service them. Transfer was to a Zoom recorder,, the tapes were in great shape and did not have to be baked but this was factory tapes and god knows what shape those machines were in,, tapes were 7.5 but 1/4 track. Very cool stuff to listen to, ,swear that some some recordings were done with one mic in the other room. Any way Ray That is my story on transfer of old tape.
  10. If you are interested, here are some detailed pictures of that unit #387s4417-6
  11. That is a TBL-320G Type "microphone boom dolly" Made in Japan by Takasago Machinery Works. They make different support equipment for audio in broadcast and stage . Phil "KJR" More here :http://www.takasago-ss.co.jp/eng/studio/mb/tbl-320g.htm
  12. It controls the tilt angle of the mic. Pierre, there is 110 degrees of tilt at your fingertips, or you can lock-off the tilt angle. Phil
  13. Jim, your postings inspired me to go back to my footage from work with the Fisher 7. First, I had no track in mind when I shot this, second, never have enough footage, third, I hate editing. I wasn't able to make it all the way to the end of the track so I cut it short. Would like to get some feed-back, Good Bad Or Whatever. I sped the footage up in places so people would get a feel for the action with the arm, cueing, ETC ETC. Phil "KJR" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV7sujBt61M&feature=youtu.be
  14. Thanks Jim, crazy stuff, Jeff, for once I liked the wind noise, not a pleasant sound in our headphones, but worked for the shot. Phil "KJR"

    DPA 4017 B

So far so good with the DPAs but this was only day 1, the kids all spoke which is a + right from the start, the lighting wasn't a problem, lunch was good and the boss was happy. I would love to try one on a fishpole sometime, and we have that as well I will add a 3in extension to the mic itself as it is a bit difficult to see 26 ft away from you, and yes I've just had my eyes checked, ears as well. It's always fun playing with a different mic for the first time.Sorry to be harsh on the construction dept, but they shouldn't have had the carp shop in the studio in the first place, the dust will last forever. First live show tomorrow. 73

    DPA 4017 B

About to start another sit-com with DPA 4017 B s in the Fisher 7s. Anyone here with a report on how they sound ? Sure small in size and light, but I will hear them tomorrow for the first time. We have the same Fishers that we had on Mr. Young. I spent five hrs. one day and did all the rollers, clean and lube. The fucking construction is happing in the studio we are shooting in, so the dust is everwhere, does this make you crazey or just me. Had an actuator cable go south on me on an extension install on the second boom, that was a fun job to replace but working perfect now. New Show, New Cast, New Sets, New Lighting,,, let the games begin . Phil "KJR"
  17. John Huston and Jack Nicholson ? WOW !
  18. Laurence has been very helpful with his time and knowledge with me as well. I would like to wish him a very happy birthday, and hope he has an extra special day. Phil

    Cetec Vega 67B

The unit I have is none diversity 202 mhz. My first nightmares with wireless was with the HME radios back in the late 70s. Even in a shielded TV studio with the antennas right above the stage, if the radios took a hit the sound on the pa speakers would knock you over. When I first started working on a series "21 Jump Street" the mixer had 4 micron none diversity receivers in a homade box he made, when it came to a walk and talk down the hallways it ment having to take the 4 receivers in the box, run as many mic cables back to the cart as we need "100 footers" get a couple of PAs to help pull the cables, and walk the recievers behind the steadycam back to the end mark. I use to dread these shots. It didn't help that the mixer was cheap and had never sent his radios back to the factory to have them tuned. Years later when he retired, I get a phone call from him wondering if I would be interested in buying his package. I politely declined his offer. OH how far we have come with wireless ! Phil "KJR"
