  1. How about the actor who decides to yell during the take to get a reaction. This happened the other day. After the take I walked on the set and it went quiet, I was fuming inside, I guess they could sense it. I calmly asked the actor "Did you know you were going to yell?" His face went blank when he realized what he had done and was followed by an apology in front of everyone. I was really expecting to hear, and I know we all have heard this... "Yes, the director told me to." Wow, it really proves that people don't know what we do.
  2. Is it possible to get through a post without studiomprd grading it? It seems counterproductive to the whole energy of this blog. Thanks for the rant.
  3. Justin, Try the motu micro express, it will convert ltc to mtc. david
  4. I use a mackie 1620 modified by forrest and it draws 2.25 amps. The mod has the flexibility of using ac or dc. I use a meter by WattsUp to measure my equipment, inexpensive and very accurate.
  5. Hey Colorado, I know of a producer that is shooting an exercise video in Denver. I 've worked for them before and they're great guys. The gig entails one wireless mic and 4 earwigs (additional cost to production). They have two cameras that I sent a comtek scratch track to and the production track was on a Deva. I also provided the playback to earwigs. Email me your info and I will pass it along. Thanks, David
  6. hey guys, one trick i use for removing equipment from velcro is an 8" plastic putty knife. it has a handle and doesn't scratch the gear. push forward and no strain on the casing.
  7. studiomprd, yes, depp's own sound guy sends him a feed but also wires him with their own transmitter, he gives you the freq. and shows up on set wired. david
  8. Bernie, If you do end up going with a comtek transmitter in the 72-76mhz range and want to spend as little as possible then look at landmark, these are radios that have an extended freq. range down to 72mhz. I bought one off ebay for curiosity sake, it was $30, what the heck. It has a cheap feel to it and is noisier than a comtek but it worked, and for the price I keep as a back-up. You do get what you pay for. Good luck, David
  9. Jeff, The best cat5 I've come across is from a company named Gepco which is located in burbank next to the 5 just south of where burbank/victory join. This cable, a crimper and connectors, ask for E-Z type, from pac radio and your set. Good luck, David
  10. notice the date of release?! pretty funny.
  11. scott, i have to do this for a recurring director. take any ear buds and pull them apart as if making a wish on a wishbone, then cut off the stereo connector and solder on a mono 1/8" on each and voila, two for the price of one. i get mono connectors at radio shack or pac radio etc....also, earbuds have a strainrelief so they don't pull apart, it takes some surgery and a small pair of nippers. good luck-david
  12. Steve, I have seen an email regarding this but I can't find it. What I have heard is (someone chime in if they have heard differently) plus or minus 3,800 people which equals 10%-15%, not including family members.
  13. Richard, bringing the camera return into the L ch15/16 (assuming it is a stereo 1/4") then muting it will put that feed into the control room/phones matrix, now depress the alt3/4 switch and unswitch the main mix then will have that feed in your right ear only and the meters will also show just the right letting you know you are listening to alt3/4. if you want to go back to the mix just depress main mix in the c.r./phones matrix. hope this helps.
  14. Michael, the system I use, which is DC only, is a GUEST charger into a 2 block batteries and out a homemade 1 in 8 out distro box. The guest chargers seem to be the quietest and the batteries are AGM 33amh. Sorry I can't help with your inverter issues.
