  1. Because juggling eight channels of audio AND operating the camera as well, is just silly!
  2. I think stepping within 6ft to trigger the Lectro TX changes yourself (while never making contact with, or handing anything to, the talent), is a smarter/saner/safer/faster approach than handing over a physical object to the talent for them to then handle (sanitised or not) which is then once again handed back.
  3. Can't you see the voltage from the V Mount battery on the display?? That should give you a heads up as to when the battery will run out. I'm sure you could find a cheaper source for those rods, and even three hundred bucks isn't much relative to the cost of a FX9 kit. And they can't make a camera perfect for everyone, that's just impossible. Plus it would rase the base price of the camera itself, the more Sony adds to it. And for many people the stock FS7 is just fine, and they don't tweak it further. I agree! You're running four wireless on a regular frequent basis as a OMB camera crew?? Seems a bit insane. Not just EF Mount, but all DSLR glass will drop drastically in the near/mid term future. Looking forward to picking up a cheap Nikon D750/D500 kit with F Mount glass. Not this lens, because it is Super35mm, but if you got a S35 camera instead (such as the C200/C300mk2, both of which can do 4ch recording btw, not that I'd recommend it!) then the Canon CN-E 18-80mm T4.4 is a good and very affordable cine zoom lens to pair with the C200 / C300mk2 that has AF: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1246187-REG/canon_1714c002_cn_e_18_80mm_t4_4_compact_servo.html/ HUH?? I thought the discussion earlier of 4x lavs for a OMB camera crew was a bit crazy.... but now you're saying SIX lavs?? (btw, if you got a MixPre6mk2 you'd slim that down a bit, vs a MP10)
  4. A couple of points: 1) would you ever shoot with a camera that doesn't have a monitor? (or EVF) 2) 32bit recordings are pointless if nothing is hardwired
  5. You can also look at swapping out the original rods for the view finder for third party ones which are longer to place it further in front, this will then allow you to shift the weight of the camera back without ending up with the viewfinder being in an awkwardly far back place too. Like this for example: https://woodencamera.com/products/uvf-mount-sony-fx9-fs7-fs7mkii-panasonic-eva1-no-clamp What you'll need will also depend on the size/weight of the lens you're using too. Using a dummy battery in the camera and keeping the screen flipped out, can help keep at bay longer the overheating in the Sony a7 series of cameras. But this is one of the reasons I prefer the rock solid workhorses that are the Panasonic GH series instead. (I've got a couple myself, while my Sony mirrorless would overheat in a blink of an eye)
  6. https://www.raycom.co.uk/product/wisycom-mcr54-four-channel-slot-in-receiver/ £2,880.00 inc VAT (£2,400.00 exc VAT) Maaaybe this means it will come in just slightly under US$3K in the USA? https://www.raycom.co.uk/product/wisycom-mcr54-quad-4-channel-rx-with-4-x-tx-and-base/ £6,360.00 inc VAT (£5,300.00 exc VAT) for a kit.
  7. Gotham Sound has a page up for pre-orders: https://www.gothamsound.com/product/mcr54-quad-receiver No price listed however, you need to call them for the price.
  8. It isn't 2.5x more, it is barely more than 2x the price: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1245557-REG/sony_urxs03d_14_uwp_d_portable_two_channel.html/ https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1259500-REG/sony_urx_p03d_14_urx_pd0214.html I've never used the Sony S03D, so I can't really comment too much about the specifics, maybe someone from Sony can explain. Andy would be the man to ask: Well, I dug deeper. And if you look at the specs, seems like perhaps maybe there is a major difference here between them: https://pro.sony/en_GB/products/uwp-d-series-receivers/urx-s03d#ProductSpecificationsBlock-urx-s03d https://pro.sony/en_NZ/products/uwp-d-series-receivers/urx-p03d#ProductSpecificationsBlock-urx-p03d As the P03D has this note: "True Diversity for 1ch use / Dynamic Switching Diversity for 2ch use". But the S03D has no such note for 2ch usage.
  9. That's still not that expensive at all for the Sony S03D, that is less than half the price of the slot in dual reciever from Lectrosonics (and the Wisycom / Audio Ltd slot dual receivers would both be priced similar to Lectrosonics).
  10. I strongly suspect that too, I remember also reading something from someone in Sound Devices that felt like it was hinting it is on their to do list to implement. (gah, wish I could remember the details) But anyway, even if 32bits never happens for my 833, that's fine, there is always a work around you could do! For instance, say I was going to have folks improvising in a car and I'd like to hardwire a few plant mics in the car which are then going into a 32bit recorder (because the bag will be dropped in the back of the car, and I can't monitor it). What I could do with the 833 instead is route each input to two different tracks, where I can then apply two different gain values. Giving me in 24bits a lower safety track for every mic.
  11. Yup, doesn't matter if you're recording in 32bits or even 128bits! If you've clipped before you even got to the recorder, then all those extra bits can't save you. This is one of the reasons why many people think 32bits of overhyped, as everyone heavily relies upon wireless (many even have their boom be wireless). And there isn't even a single professional grade field recorder which does 32bit recordings.
  12. I've got both, the biggest advantage of the LT over the LMb is you can use Lectro tweedle tones with the LT (but not the LMb).
  13. https://www.watson.de/deutschland/berlin/107372326-angriff-auf-heute-show-team-staatsschutz-ermittelt-abdelkarim-aeussert-sich That is sad to read that hiring security teams is now a necessary "normal", but understandable. (I've been attacked myself at protests)

They've got a cover for if you're in a bit of a drizzle: That's true! The further out weight is placed, the greater the strain on your body. However I do like the fold down design for wireless which has info displayed on the side rather than top mounted displays (such as Lectro SR receivers). Perhaps a good design for people who are not wearing their bag more often than they are. I like too the clamp for positioning your phone on the side like that. But the negatives I see: 1)Much higher cost than normal 2) Heavier than normal I won't be getting one in the near future. But I applaud any new innovation!
  15. https://www.stern.de/kultur/tv/-heute-show--reagiert-bestuerzt-auf-angriff---kein-thema-in-der-show-9247758.html Might be related to May 1st (which is International Workers' Day, the biggest event on the calendar for some leftist activist). So this attack could be done by protesters who were there for May 1st? As there would have have been many on the streets during this day. This is the talent (along with thew crew) who was attacked, Abdelkarim Zemhoute: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdelkarim_(Kabarettist) https://www.bild.de/regional/berlin/berlin-aktuell/bengalos-braende-mehrere-festnahmen-in-walpurgisnacht-in-berlin-70380478.bild.html

  17. Not you Jim, both others in this thread strike me as being exactly a classical case of FUD. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear,_uncertainty,_and_doubt)
  18. Just clarifying, as they're two totally different things.
  19. Deity products do not violate any copyrights, either in the USA or elsewhere in the world.
  20. That looks like the original Tascam DR100 recorder that they're using, but what mic is that?
  21. If you have a lunch break you could just plug in a USB powerbank, no need to pull it off the camera rig. However, these are so cheap to buy (as cheap as some batteries! Like V Locks), you could just have a fully charged spare unit at hand to swap in with.
  22. That's what I dream of as well! An uptick in demand for extra boom ops, to give back some of the extra coverage that lavs used to do. Let's not be so negative, we're no longer the department which can be completely replaced in post.... just look at how advanced VFX is getting! Ageing characters instead of make up, virtual sets (like in Mandalorian) instead of a large art department or going to location, etc This highly advanced VFX is good news for us well, it has never been easier for booms to be removed in post! It's so easy to paint out a boom, "even a drunk soundie can do it":
  23. Is that notched ridge along the top (and bottom!) to allow the same "locking" connector to be used as there is with the Tentacle Sync E uses?
  24. I can see so many uses for this!! For instance, feed a mix from your 833/Nova/Maxx/633/F8n/whatever into the Deity stereo audio recorder as a back up recorder in your mixing bag. Normally we wouldn't do this as a backup recorder is too heavy/bulky to keep in the bag, it is usually only cart users who do this. Had already thought of this as a good use for the new Tentacle (anybody heard anything more about that??). Could also pair this with my Sound Devices MM1 (or MixPreD/302 if that is what you have) for a super mini stereo recording kit that I'd just clip to my belt and go. Just in general the Deity BP-TRX is a great "do everything" tool. Keep a couple in your kit at hand to solve whatever random surprising problems pop up on set. They want a camera hop? Got it! Want an IFB? Got it! Need an extra TC box? Solved! Your recorder spits the dummy? Not a show stopper!
