  1. There isn't much discussion online about Glensound products that I can find, so I thought I'd ask? If anybody here is using them. As I'm considering the Glensound AoIP22: https://www.glensound.co.uk/product-details/aoip22/ https://www.gothamsound.com/product/dante-two-channel-interface
  2. Take a look at getting a Sound Devices MP1 or MM1 to get yourself one channel of a Sound Devices preamp, or the original Sound Devices MixPre or MixPre-D for two channels (or even the Sound Devices 302? It's still quite small and compact).
  3. Over fifteen years, so not quite as long as Zaxcom, but a long time none the less, and is getting up there.
  4. What do you reckon the Shure ADX5D is still missing? Sony is almost getting there for as long 😉
  5. The SL Mixface somewhat recently got support from Sound Devices as well, I just got it myself, and have recently finished up a solid couple of week usage with it. You said weight/size is a non-issue for you, but for those who do care about minimizing these, then the Mixface is great! You also don't care about powering, so maybe give a look also at the Behringer X Touch?
  6. You're welcome, keep us updated with what you end up doing! Especially if it a some other different path. I think there will be a lot of people who have either newly acquired a 6 Series or are sticking with their 6 Series long term like you are, and are looking for other solutions than the increasingly rare CL12.
  7. Understandable! It's become so very popular and in high demand, as it's compatible with all of the 8 Series as well as the 6 Series. I guess the issue is that the only currently made purpose built control surface for the 8 Series by Sound Devices is the CL16. Which is overkill (or overpriced) for most people. Of course there are a wonderful range of third party control surfaces for the 8 Series! But they're often missing a little "something" with their feel, vs the likes of a CL9/CL12/CL16. Maybe Sound Devices needs to make an "affordable" modern CL9mk2 (for the 8 Series) as a cheaper alternative to their CL16 while also being a more premium feel alternative to the third party offerings? That might be a suitable replacement for the CL12 being used with the 8 Series, and lower back down the current high demand for the CL12. Fair enough! I guess you could make up custom ends for your snakes to work with your new 833. But wouldn't really be the same as using the 10pin ends, and a Sound Devices Scorpio (which has those) would be a much more expensive investment! My thoughts if I was in your shoes, needing to stick with the 664, but can't find a CL12, is that I'd be looking around for an old school analog mixing board? Specifically, I'd be looking for the PSC Solice Mini (if 8 linear faders is sufficient for your needs): https://professionalsound.com/specs/solicemini.html https://www.professionalsound.com/manuals/Solice Mini Owner's Manual.pdf https://www.trewaudio.com/reviews/pscs-solice-mini-mixer/ As for a fully featured analog board it's quite compact / lightweight , also is quite affordably priced (relatively speaking). Rodolfo Piedras had late last year a PSC Solice Mini for CAD$2K (US$1.5K) for sale, message him perhaps to see if it's still available?? (probably gone already. But at only US$1.5K, it's comparable to what a rental of a CL12 would cost you! Plus you can always resell it afterwards to recoup costs. As this is typical pricing I'd say for it secondhand) Or just ask around, to see if anybody has a PSC Solice Mini they'd like to get rid of. Otherwise, you're looking instead at a Cooper / Sonosax / etc as your analog mixers, with linear faders. But those tend to be heavier/bulkier than a PSC Solice Mini or a Sound Devices CL12 is, and it would likely be more pricey too than buying a Solice Mini or renting a CL12. Perhaps the final option to consider, if you haven't already, is to get your hands on the Sound Devices CL6? (if you don't already own it) Is try to get your hands on a Sound Devices CL6? Gives you six extra big faders. Of course, mixing on rotary faders vs nice linear faders isn't ideal! But would be better than nothing at all, definitely worth considering as a last resort.
  8. Depending on the length of the movie, you might want to run the math on the rental costs (or buying... if you can't find one to rent) of a CL12 for a whole movie vs selling the 664 and getting a Sound Devices 833 and any of the many (& very affordable) options the 8 Series has for control surfaces. The total costs difference is likely to be fairly marginal, and the 833 in my mind is going to largely be overall an upgrade. You can get more slightly more channels in total (up to "14" ISOs vs the 12 of a 664), and all the many new features of the 8 Series! You have less big faders, but that's somewhat of a nonissue I think thanks to many great accessories such as from iddqd & Location Sound London & SoundReal (and many more, growing all the time: https://www.sounddevices.com/category/product-information/3rd-party-solutions/ ) then having direct physical control over your mixer/recorder is even easier with the 8 Series than the 6 Series, even when you're not using the the tablet/phone app or a bigger control surface such as the CL12/CL16/etc Oh, and also the 833 will have a few less outputs, no 10 pin connectors for instance. (but the 6 independent channels of outputs the 833 has is probably enough for most needs?)
  9. I think the W.Lav Pro would be compatible with any generic foam windscreen for the COS11 lavs? As they're meant to be similar sizes.
  10. I know I'm replying to a very old thread... but I was just reading this, and curious as to how it could fry the R4 Pro?? As surely the wireless receiver won't be sending any power to the Roland?? It's just sending a line signal (or perhaps mic signal) to it?

    Zaxcom- MAXX

Anybody else still using the Zaxcom Maxx in 2023? 😃 How are you liking it
  12. I haven't got two of them to test with, but I think so. People have used a USB Hub with the Sound Devices 8 Series so as to use two control surfaces at once. But you can also use just the the one Mixface and multiple banks so as to control more channels, if you wish.
  13. Yup, I'd say it is aiming to line it up directly against the (in)famous Sennheiser 416. Which when on special (i.e. "always", it is its street price), is priced exactly the same as this new DPA at $999: https://www.adorama.com/semkh416p48.html https://www.locationsound.com/sennheiser-mkh416-p48u3-shotgun-microphone-1141 As that is the mic every newbie / videographer / hobbyist seems to aspire to own (especially if they're unaware of newer ones such as the 8060, or other brands such as Sanken/DPA/Schoeps/Neumann/etc. Which is usually the case, they're often enough unaware of any other models of "premium shotguns"). Yup, while all this info is dead boring obvious for people like us, for their broader target market it's worthwhile putting out a slick looking video covering the basics. Hopefully the DPA 2017 becomes their best ever selling (non-lav) microphone. (with the volumes lavs sell at, I doubt it will ever be able to outsell those!)
  14. Anybody else using the Studiologic SL Mixface? Sound Devices recently added supported support for it in a new firmware update for the Sound Devices 8 Series. Just started using it seriously myself a couple of weeks ago on my current production, and mostly I'm loving it! It's a great addition, but it has a couple of minor things I wish were different. The Studiologic SL Mixface has Bluetooth. The Sound Devices 833 has Bluetooth. But there is no way to connect them both together I believe? Would love if there was a firmware update to support this wireless Bluetooth connection! 😉 Pretty please? (especially as the Micro USB connection is very dodgy! And very easily comes loose and disconnects 😕 Plus going wireless means for bag-cart users, it's one less step you need to do if in a jiffy you need to transition between cart mixing to bag wearing operation)
  15. This AC is a big fan of the Deity slate!
  16. What new wireless?? You mean the Lectrosonics DSR4/DSR?? That's not really a new line of wireless though is it? It's just the usual current gen Lectrosonics Digital (and keeping backwards compatibility too with their Digital Hybrids).
  17. That has now been officially announced: https://www.newsshooter.com/2023/09/16/deity-announced-the-dltx-3-pin-lemo-transmitter-butterfly-antenna-at-ibc-2023/ "The DLTX is primarily designed for microphones that require 48-volt phantom power through the 3-pin Lemo connector. This is great for attaching to a boom pole, as most shotgun microphones require phantom power. The DLTX 3 is fully compatible with the new THEOS wireless system."

  20. Yup, often meaning gets attached to a word after it becomes somewhat popular. That has nothing to do with its original origins! A classic example from our field is "MOS", people have been making up so many different meanings for what "MOS" is, that we've totally lost track of what it really stood for. But imagine if in a few decades time, one of them catches hold and becomes the dominant meaning of "MOS", we might all believe that's the true original meaning of "MOS"! Even though that's false.
  21. Yup, that's what I'm meaning when I mentioned I'm a millennial, certainly far too young for growing up in that time period, but I'm also a fair bit older than the younger generations coming into the work force. I'm more or less "in the middle". Thus I'd guess the majority (everyone around about my age, plus everyone younger) wouldn't have it cross their mind there is anything wrong with that language.
  22. Sennheiser G4 wireless (which are not that different at all to G3, not an upgrade at all I'd say. And even G3 is not much different to the G2 in the grand scheme of things) is cheap prosumer wireless, not in even close to the same category as Lectrosonics or Sound Devices Wireless. Also, you should be considering as well the pro wireless from Shure Axient Digital, Sony DWX Digital Wireless, Wiyscom, and Zaxcom. As they're all top notch too, and worth checking out. I personally am using Sony DWX for my booms, with Lectrosonics Digital Hybrids for my talent bodypacks. But if I wasn't using them, I'd probably be going with Shure Axient Digital (at least for my booms, I might go with Wisycom instead for the talent bodypacks).
  23. I'm not that young, or that old either (am a millennial), but I initially was reading this thread thinking to myself "what the hell is wrong with saying money-shot??" And until I got to the point you said "adult films" it didn't click (and even, I'll admit, it took an extra second until it did). Sure, I "know" what "the money-shot" means, where the original meaning comes from and even why. But you'd have to specifically prod my memory or ask me before I'd remember the meaning. Just overhearing it in casual conversation? Nope, nope, would never occur to me as "wrong" or give me any dodgy mental imagery at all. Unless the person makes it dodgy. I'd just classify it these days the same as any of a million billion other phrases which could have some innuendo to it, you don't really ever see anything wrong with it unless you're trying to (or it is pointed out to you), then it's quite obvious! But otherwise it's easy to be blissfully innocently unware of it.
  24. You're wanting take the RF outputs from the SL2 into 2x receivers? (note: you've got inputting/outputting back to front) Using a passive splitter (such as from Mini-Circuits), you'll get a drop in signal strength due to splitting it up, but it should probably be workable and not too bad. (feeding it to 3x RX though? I'd probably rather not do that, and would definitely not do it for 4x RX! You want then an active RF distro)
  25. Yes, that's another option, getting the Lectrosonics SR-AES3 and/or the AJA ADA4. But the SRAES3 is a little bit pricey, it is however very compact and elegant to use! So use the Lectro SRAES3 if you only need to squeeze in a couple more channels, but the ADA4 with it as well if you need 6x more channels. That way the SRAES3 + ADA4 + the 10x analog inputs on the 888 itself, will give you a maxed out total of 16x ISO channels you can record!
