Oh yikes!  That's it for information about recording a 6-piece band on location?

Good luck.  No seriously, good luck!

Take a 2-track mix from the FOH guy and call it good.

Stereo mic pair in the room and record what come out of the PA?

XLRs or TRS, who the heck would know?

If it were me, I'd cancel the job.  "I've come down with the flu."   Not being bitter here, just wouldn't want to be responsible for something that I had such poor prepro on.

Inexcusable on the part of production; so little time and so little help.

    D.

Indeed - seriously considering it. It’s the night before and I have not had a single conversation with the producer about what I’m doing. I do not enjoy cancelling and do not want to leave a crew without a sound guy but this is unacceptable.

  2. I have just received a very vague call sheet for a shoot i’m on tomorrow. It’s a nightclub with 6 performers - I reached out to the associate producer and explained I was a little confused as to what I will actually be doing and was told I may just be recording the performances from the house AV (or desk, I do not know!). I am a little frustrated about the complete lack of communication up until this point.

Anyway, I expect this would be a case of recording direct outs from the desk/system - or is there something more that I’m perhaps missing? Should I ask for line up tone from the Del in order to calibrate my recorder (zoom F8) or just match meters? I apologise if this sounds very amateur but this is my first gig dealing with house AV and it hasn’t been sprung on me!

    Many thanks.

  3. Hi guys,

ive recently purchased an SRc and SMQV transmitters, and am thinking of the best way to transport them. I mainly do bag work and at the moment and when flying I just put my loaded OR32 bag and all other gear into my Peli 1620.

I’m wondering if I should have my lecro wireless stuff in another smaller pelican inside. My Sennh G3 (which I use just for wireless scratch) has its own box so  perhaps I should be looking after my lectros in a similar way!

Would love to hear who other transport their SRc, weather you leave it in the bag or have a seperate case/bag for them.

    Thanks!

  4. Thank you for all your help guys, really appreciate it.

    And that's why I normally don't buy through B&H

    It actually wasn’t from B&H!

Am I right in thinking that if I remove the resistor completely, and attach the white wire straight to pin 5, it will be the correct (and non universal) servo bias wiring?

That is the correct universal wiring.

Thanks, it does seem to be. This is so odd.

So I have the lav in mid chest position, and when speaking at normal conversation volume, with a Tx audio level of 40(!) I only occasionally light the -20 led green.

When I shout I’ll light the -10 green. I really have to go crazy to get them to go red and just hit the limiter (which is fulll modulation and optimum gain structure correct?)

Having the Tx audio level at anything less doesn’t even light the LEDs at all.

Am I missing something on my Tx?

  6. I had exposed the connecter and have found the following. Could anyone perhaps tell me if this is correct?

Pin 1 -white (audio?) to a resistor, and another wire I think is the shield

    pin 2 - 4 jump

    pin 3 - black (bias?)

this seems to match up with fig 5 in lectrosonics wiring diagrams.

Reduced sensitivity functions are built into the mic not the connector. The Sanken reduced output versions are 10db down from the regular versions regardless of what connector is attached.

Indeed, and even though my mic does not have the ‘red’ band - the model number written on the box does correspond to Sankens  reduced sensitivity model number as seen I this picture. I realise thanks to Larry that UNLE is universal lectrosoncis, but also I’ve noticed on the Internet that the code only appears on Sanken models with reduced sensitivity.

  8. Thanks Larry - that makes a lot of sense.

Strange thing is when i google the Sanken model number with the UNLE suffix, it seems to mostly bring up he reduced sensitivity versions.

I can’t for the life of me think what else could be causing the low gain on the Tx. Really do have to shout in order to light up the -10 led and audio level is on 44!

On further research, the Sanken product codes for the different wiring seem to be as follows:

Lectro TA5F normal sensitivitiy: SAN-11DWNBKSMLE (is this the servo wiring?)

Lectro TA5F Reduced sensitivity: SAN-11DWRBKUNLE (The code on the mics I have been supplied)

    Sennheiser LEMO normal sensitivity: SAN-11DANBSE

    Sure TA4F normal sensitivity: SAN-11DANGYT4SH

Seems that I may have the red dot version?

  9. Just to be clear, I didn’t wire these (I’m terrible at soldering!) - I bought them terminated for Lectro from the store. I guess I should just return them.

    EDIT:

I have noticed TA5F - UNLE written onto both boxes, UNLE seems to correspond to the reduced sensitivity version serial on B&H. If i’m correct I think they may have sent my the incorrect microphones!

  10. Hi all,

I just purchased 2 more COS11D mics, this time wired for my recently purchased lectrosoncis SMVQ transmitters. I chose the universal wiring option as I may need to use them with older lectro transmitters.

However I’m experiencing some issues with transmitter volume/sensitivity when attempting to set up the optimum gain structure. In order to ‘tickle’ the -10 led I have to have the transmitter gain at maximum (44) and shout very very loudly. In fact, relatively normal interview talking volume rarely hits the green of -10.

Is this because I should have perhaps opted for the servo wiring? Or some other issue?

I definitely do not have the red dot versions (unless something untoward has happened) so am confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  11. Hi all,

So I’m finally looking to upgrade my multiple Sony UWP systems to lectrosonics, and am particularly looking at the ar dual receiver systems, mostly to save space in my small orca bag and keep my rig pretty mobile.

I’d like to know the main differences/advantages of the src over the srb or even the sra. I’m aware it has trackinh front end filters similar to the 411s, as well as smart sync infrared syncing, but what about audio quality and range?

I can pick up used srb systems for substatially cheaper than src. Will these still be a good purchase now that the src is here?

I am mostly in the commercial and corporate market, with the occasional narrative work. I rarely need more than 2/3 wireless channels plus boom. I use a g3 as a wireless cam hop.

Hope you can help! Thank you in advance.

  12. Hi guys,

Returned home from a shoot the other night and realized that the rubber/vinyl 'tip' of one of my Sony UWP-D transmitters (UTX-b03) was missing. (see pics)

The internal wire of the antenna is exposed, however repeated tests have shown there doesn't seem to be any detrimental effect at all (yet) -  on range or audio quality.

Can I just add any tip/cover to the antenna or do I have to replace the entire antenna?

Hope you can help - thanks in advance!

  13. Hi all,

I'm using the great but somewhat limited zoom F8 today, and have just been asked to feed 3 clients an audio mix. What's the best way to set up an IFB - comtek most likely - with the Zoom F8?

    thanks!

  14. Good evening guys,

Long term lurker, first time poster. Please be gentle. I'm a sound editor and general audio-post guy by trade, and have over the past year had an opportunity to make a somewhat logical step into location sound. I've had a small singleboom, single wireless system and lav - the Sony UWP D-series - but want to add another.

I'm wondering if I should go for the same frequency system or not? I'm currently using the 470 to 542 MHz (UHF Channels 14/25) system and am unsure weather to get another system of the same or not. I believe I should get the same range as the manual states the following:

"When operating two or more UWP-D series packages simultaneously with different channel groups, make sure that they are at least 100 meters (330 feet) apart if they are used within clear sight of each other (actual distance may vary depending on the circumstances)."

Just want to be 100% sure. Hope you can help!
